Time is ticking. Shall I settle to have the family I’ve always wanted?

This article might invoke a storm of protest but I think it gives another perspective on the “rip-off matchmaker” scenario.

Why would the article invoke a storm of protest @IdaBWells? I think we've all met people (mostly women, if I'm honest), who are totally unrealistic in their search for a mate. Long, long lists of 'must haves' and very inflexible, as if they're buying a rug, rather than trying to find a compatible human being with all his attendant flaws, while being totally blind to the existence of their own.

There was a post the other day from a MNer who was struggling to find a suitable guy, but her absolute must have was that he must own his own property to prove that he was marriage ready and serious! Bonkers. No wonder she was single.

zafferena well I think this bloke is just as bad as not once in the entire article did he admit any mistakes or weaknesses of his own, so I was anticipating women pulling him up on that! But he reminds everyone that the “perfect” men we pick out a line up still of course may decide we are not his “perfect” woman! A matchmaker can do a lot of work at matching for compatibility but chemistry is obviously out of their control. There was a quote in there somewhere where one of his female clients said “he was not ready to make a commitment for marriage” and his internal response was “he was ready to make a commitment to marriage, just not to you!”.

A big mistake I think some women make if they WANT marriage and children is to stay with a man for years who never proposes. Once people have taken care of their career path etc. people will know within about six months and definitely within a year if they want to be married to the person they are with. If a man doesn’t move toward a commitment that the woman wants, then the woman should move on and find a man who does. Why would you want to marry a man who has no enthusiasm for you anyway?
