Arranged to meet today for a drink at quarter 2.
I got the train to his city (50 min train)
Literally got off the train and he has text
“My dad has been taken in hospital,can we re arrange?”
£18 train and 50 min journey
Feel like crying

The hospital thing might have been genuine but, if his dad was 'rushed into hospital' then your date would presumably be there now being concerned and genuinely not able to meet you. The shoes thing was too much.

For curiosity's sake though... I would tell him you'll be outside x-shop at y-time - and then just safely view him for a distance whilst drinking a lovely coffee that PP suggested you buy. He wouldn't see me - or hear from me again other than perhaps to get a 'goodbye, don't contact me again' text.
