Dating thread rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread

I know what you mean smeaton - I feel like I've got so much to give someone. I think I'm a good catch, it makes me sad to think I'm just getting older and more lonely. If I'm struggling at 49 it's only going to get worse.

Feeling proper sorry for myself this evening. I'll go and sit in the clubhouse toilets I think, I'm going to bring you all down if all I do is look across to the Smitten Bench longingly.

Tooclimaxfocussed · 19/03/2018 19:57

Pm me if you like cover - you can return the favour when I shuffle back into the game with my tail between my legs after vowing I'm never going back to POF again.

esk1mo · 19/03/2018 20:00

tom 😂

i use Clue to track , it doesnt have a horny option Sad but ive noticed the past year
or so that whenever im desperate to DTD its around my ovulation time, then i couldnt give a hoot after that week or so.

ignoringthechoc · 19/03/2018 20:06

Happy to critique cover and promise not to be too snarky!
Also watching corrie Smeaton but it's getting a bit heavy for a Monday night.
Too, I agree with others, a break can be good but I'm still optimistic about there being good people out there.
Not the best day today for me, not dating related, just had my 13 yo dog put to sleep, I know it was time but still devastated Sad

Bant · 19/03/2018 20:13

cover - send me a link.

Luckily, as I'm a man, I don't have a cycle. Or at least I do, but it's rusty and slightly broken and coincidentally still sitting in my exes garage.

I've been dating for several years, but I'm picky. Bad grammar puts me off, as does stupidity, incuriousness, bigotry, height (I can't fancy a woman taller than me, so that's 15% of women out) obesity and dullness. I've got colleagues who are interesting and funny and come to work and have coffee and rant about the boring arsehole they're married to, or others who are just irritatingly blissful about their other half.

I regularly give OLD a break, but the problem is.. it's the only game in town. Meetup groups near me are just full of weirdos. When anyone attractive joins up they're immediately inundated with old timers pouncing on them - telling weird in-jokes and asking their opinion of the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre.. it's like that scene in the Indiana jones film when the nazis are swarmed with killer ants. I sympathise with people who join the group, and so I stopped going.

I can't socialise with work people too much as it hurts my liver.

So.. online dating it is. For what it's worth.

Bugger

Bant · 19/03/2018 20:14

Oh I'm sorry ignoring - that's horrible for you, hope you're ok

Tooclimaxfocussed · 19/03/2018 20:19

💐 ignoring - my dog is a similar age and I can see that time coming for her too. Absolutely heartbreaking, I feel for you.

pudding21 · 19/03/2018 20:21

cover I'll look!

esk last two years ive been permenantly Horny. I'm sure it's my body telling me to go forth a have more babies. But I used to get horny as hell around ovulation time.

Aww Ignoring I'm so sorry about your dog. Sad

ignoringthechoc · 19/03/2018 20:29

Thanks everyone, don't know why you're all single, you are a lovely bunch :) xx

FalconHeavy · 19/03/2018 20:31

So sorry ignoring. Must be heart-breaking. Dogs are the best.

Skyrabbit · 19/03/2018 20:43

Ignoring so sorry about your dog, be kind to yourself tonight. Kinda puts the dating thing in perspective a bit.

There's a lot of us not feeling it OLD wise aren't there? Everyone one on here sounds witty, intelligent, self aware, kind etc. Why aren't we all on smitten benches??

Tbh I'm a bit odd, very tall, and sarcAstic, but I thought I might find SOMEONE on OLD that 'got me'. Confused

pudding21 · 19/03/2018 20:44

ignoring just read up a bit, sorry for your loss. Virtual hugs, you can wipe your snotty nose on my shoulder :(

pudding21 · 19/03/2018 20:48

skyrabbit I think that too. I think everyone on here seems like they have good standards and values and hopefully will get us into a great relationship and find "a one". Not "the one" as I am not a believer in that, but "a one".

They are out there somewhere. If I could take parts of all the guys I liked over the last 6 months and put them together, that will do me. But maybe one day, we will find the one that ticks most if not all the things we hold important.

Over the tinder rainbow.

CoverMeLads · 19/03/2018 20:48

Ignoring I’m so sorry, lovely. I’ve lost an old cat to old age and a little kitten to FIP over the last couple of years so I can totally empathise.

Thanks all you profile critiques, now how in the name of arse do I link to my POF to PM you????

CoverMeLads · 19/03/2018 20:50

And PopToo aid the toilets, come over to SnarkyArse corner and pull up a bean bag, have I got some corkers to show you.....

CoverMeLads · 19/03/2018 20:50

Sod not aid FFS

ValMc1 · 19/03/2018 20:50

Ignoring so so sorry - had my 17 year old cat put to sleep just before Christmas- it's taken me a while to get used to coming into an empty house - hugs

Lovemusic33 · 19/03/2018 20:51

Flowers ignor so sorry for your loss, my girl is getting very old and slow too and I’m dreading the day I have to say goodbye. Our pets have seen us through good and bad times.

I’m enjoying my break from POF, I feel less stressed, am looking at my phone less and probably eating more (not a good thing).

Bant · 19/03/2018 20:51

pudding - if you'd taken parts of all the guys you'd liked over the last six months and put them together, then currently you'd be serving 15 years to life in a high security unit.

CoverMeLads · 19/03/2018 20:53

Pud agree with you about bits of exes/dates. If only Weird Science was real sigh

pudding21 · 19/03/2018 20:54

Oh and a kind of non update. Mr Architect posted an old picture of his dad on instagram stories today. His Dad died when he was 17, he told me about it. He also told me his dad was a bit of a ladies man. He was gorgeous, and looks a lot like Mr A. So I replied to the story and he replied saying " What, are you going to say I am not as beautiful". To which I replied saying he was very handsome, he looked like him but had different eyes and that he was as beautiful".

He called me later on, and he sounded the happiest I have heard him for a while, we had a really nice, ever so slightly flirty conversation, then a bit of banter on whats app.

I had started to forget about him....... Confused

Have had some nice messages from Mr Italian, and Mrslippedthroughtheagenet who is an absolute delight.

Wow, feel bad for derailing the thread now!
Really appreciate all your kind words, but feel free to get back to funny profiles and dodgy messages, fiver to the first to make me smile (I'm joking, you have all cheered me up already) x
