I'm fine thanks, squirrels. DSD Tuesday, DSS Wednesday and today met niece and her family for an hour before they went off to DB's. So a very family week!

Been heavy showers, chilly but lots of sun today. Another lovely rainbow this a.m.

Not renowned for my healthy eating, cooking or anything domestic really Blush, I have ordered a soupmaker. It arrives Tuesday, so I reckon by the time I've read the instructions/downloaded app (it's a Smart thing) it should be about Easter before I'm ready to start?

All hints/tips gratefully received, but nothing sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower -y. Not good for underactive thyroid (neither can I stand them so perfect excuse Grin).

Keep warm everyone.

Oh yes, and collage lovely. Hope link works, this is my DH corner of what was dining area. On the right hand side of the shelf is the lovely elephant made of DH's shirts by kind hospice volunteers.

Chasingsquirrels · 28/12/2017 17:15

That's lovely Selena.
Can't help on the soup - I buy tins of it Smile

HoHoHorsemad · 28/12/2017 17:18

Lovely collage Selena, and the elephant is gorgeous ☺️ I love soup, I don't have a soupmaker but just chuck everything in a pan. My favourite is lentil soup, so tasty.

Hope your DH is not suffering too much with his tooth book, trying to eat whilst numbed up is very disconcerting!

chasing, great photo; we've had similar weather today, it was beautiful. We went for a walk and I've managed to exceed 10K steps, yeaaay me! Grin

Cake, any news on MIL's visit?

Willow2017 · 28/12/2017 17:27

Afternoon all.
Ds2 much better thanks although still a bit peely wally😀
Went into town and got essential food shop and raked around looking at sale stuff.
Got big bag of xmas tree baubles in purples and dark blue and gold as fancied a change in decor next year. Got a little lantern too😀

Making tea and freezing rest of gammon for another day.
Got 'Risk' so playing that later with ds2 not holding out for ds1 but he 'owes' me😀

I remember thinking soup might be good after dentist...i wore most of it!
Lovely photo Squirrels. Snow warning for tomorrow on main road sign. Hope not thought we might go to Edinburgh xmas market. Will have to see in morning.

Willow2017 · 28/12/2017 17:37

Gosh everyone posted in time it took me to fight my phone to make post sensible!
Lovely collage and love the elephant Selena
I dont make much soup these days as kids dont eat it. But sometimes use stock from chicken carcass and throw in veg for myself.

Blooming cold her think its gonna be frosty tonight.

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2017 19:21

Evening all. Very cold here, we had sleet but no snow that stuck. We've a fire roaring in the grate, and DH is currently doing his annual trick of making soup from the turkey carcass. I'm taking it easy, I came down with a cold on Christmas day and still feel a bit under the weather.

Horse I got a Fitbit too and intend to put it to good use as soon as I've worked out how to use it Grin

NotAChristmasCakePop · 28/12/2017 20:56

Hello all, lots of lovely updates!

we are none the wiser - she hasn't answered her mobile or home phone or indeed tried to call back having seen the missed calls Angry

I have managed to make a chain and have a little practice at crocheting but it's very messy at the moment. Horse you'll need to join me!

Selena that canvas and the elephant is lovely. Sounds like you've had a lovely family oriented week. I love making butternut squash and bacon soup - onion, bacon, BNS and bullion - cook and blitz it in the Magimix.

Squirrel that looks very frosty indeed! Sounds like a good catch up with your friends.

Oooh, the fitbit gang Wink I have a pilates DVD waiting for the kids to go back to school and my foot has been behaving so will up walking first and then see about getting back to jogging.

Hope the risotto went down OK book

Hope the boys behave themselves Willow and that your knee and back are behaving.

Just going to go find more nibbles that I don't need sigh

bookbook · 28/12/2017 22:54

Evening all!
Just put the knitting down , cup of cocoa arrived via DH :)
Risotto went down okay , thank goodness !
Just waiting to see how much snow we get tomorrow - probably not as much as they are panicking warning about........
Selena - Lovely DH corner, collage and elephant are lovely . I make a lot of soup, but never used a soup maker. Is it just chuck it in and switch on? Here , favourites are leek and potato, chicken with vegetables and minestrone, but it depends on what I have dug up at the allotment in truth . I mostly start with a basic mix of an onion, a carrot and a celery stalk ( or celery salt if you don't like celery) then anything goes :)
Horse - I am fascinated by Fitbits - does the step count relate directly to how far you walk ( just thinking if your stride is long rather than short, you go further?) .
Willow - nice to get a bargain- hope the snow stays away for you
Drama - ooh I love a real fire - memories of childhood and cosying up in front of it. Hope the cold is shaken off soon :)
Cake - mmm MIL is not very thoughtful eh? Tension is the hardest thing to sort with crochet - just find a way of holding the yarn that feels comfortable, and you can keep the same. Its different for everyone , don't think there is a right or wrong way :)
Sleep well everyone
Thoughts and Prayers

Willow2017 · 28/12/2017 23:56

Evening
Been playing risk with ds2 'dinner' still learning all rhe rules! But he beat me and we didnt realise it 1st time! Had to give up 2nd game as sitting on floor too uncomfy. Board is too big for my little table!
He helped me do dishes after. Ds1 in doghouse and if he doesn't get down here soon it will get worse!
Frosty here hopefully no snow tomorrow.

Hope cold clears soon Drama ds2 has had cold all week too. Always something at this time of year.
Cake i was thinking about getting a pilates dvd to see if it would help my dodgy back and all my other knackered areas. Is yours a beginners one? Dont want to make it worse😀
Have a good night, snow free.

bookbook · 29/12/2017 10:15

Morning all!
well, I expected snow (not!) and guess what - it has been raining for the last hour - so much for armageddon Grin
Lazy morning of folding washing, tidying kitchen, knitting and now listening to Womens Hour .
I am away to DD1's today - as day out was cancelled, we are having an afternoon /evening of cards and board games interspersed with eating lots of leftovers .
Have a good day everyone

Willow2017 · 29/12/2017 10:56

Well the gods have conspired against me again.
Awake several times with my traitorous hip. Ds has sore foot and its snowing!
Looks like i am condemned to housework and ironing today.
Sounds like a nice day planned Book.

SelenaValentina · 29/12/2017 14:11

Thank you for the soup ideas. It arrives on Tuesday - apparently it sautes, makes chunky, thick or thin soup. Also does smoothies. It is not going to sit in the cupboard - so there's my New Year Resolution sorted Grin.

book, I think you put in your stride length, I have a Garmin HR (and leave it all to my IT nerd son to sort out Blush) and I'm fairly sure he measured my stride when I did have a fitbit, so he'd have transferred such riveting data over to this.

Went off this morning for walk and coffee, was going out again as prescription not sorted - however, now pouring/hailing/blowing a gale so heating on constant, feet up, hot chocolate. Nothing new there, do I hear you say? You'd be about right.

Willow, hope your hip sorts itself out. I squirt mine with magnesium oil when I remember, does seem to help. Another NYR - I am not having arthritis.

Willow2017 · 29/12/2017 14:30

Selena have just googled that might give it a try. Thanks. (I have been eating amaretti biccies and had an almond croissant yestetday so my magnesium levels should be up a bit 😉) love anything almondy good excuse to buy some.
I have tumeric in cupboard to try that tumeric milk stuff. Thats on my to do list.

SelenaValentina · 29/12/2017 15:15

Willow, there's an oral Turmeric spray by (I think) BetterYou. It's not cheap (£16 or so) but I know when I'm not using it. Holland and Barrett have it so when they do buy one get one half price I try and stock up.

Major problem to me is that the spray eventually jams - it's done this on other of their spray products too - and if out of sheer desperation you decide to just use a teaspoon you can end up with bright yellow teeth and tongue. So it's Smile not Grin all day. OK if you remember to use at night though!

Still raining!

NotAChristmasCakePop · 29/12/2017 16:38

Hello all

We had a fun hour at the trampoline place and arrived home as MIL arrived. She was here for a few hours and it was fairly pleasant.

Willow pilates is very good. I did lessons for a while because the lady would help adjust posture or make alterations for people depending on skill/level and or injuries.

We've had rain (but less than forecast). DD off tomorrow for a week. I'm itching to take the tree down. Anyone else?

Hope you're all OK!

Willow2017 · 29/12/2017 19:32

Selena thanks. Think i will try a small sample of the 'milk' first seeing as i have a bag of the stuff😀 will need to watch the video again😁

Had snow, sleet then rain. Now just cold and drizzly/damp.

Glad visit went ok Cake why do people have to be awkward just for the sake of it?

Chasingsquirrels · 29/12/2017 20:58

Bad night - ds2 had a run bad headache and came in to me at 2am, unfortunately disturbed Charlie who I then needed to settle. The he woke again at 5.30am. Yawn.
Vet visit for his second jabs, nipped to town then went to my parents for lunch as my uncle and aunt are down - last minute change of plan as my mum mentioned in passing that they had brought their dog (which they never do) so we had to leave Charlie at home (as he isn't fully imunised yet) and just go for lunch and a short time rather than stay for the afternoon.

Boys picked up by their dad this evening and off skiing for the long weekend with friends. Hopefully they will enjoy it - none of them have ever skied before.

Lunch at Wetherspoons tomorrow with family then was going to go to my parents for NYE but now can't do that due to the dog issue so not sure on plans.

cake sounds like the MIL visit wasn't too bad.
book hope you had a good day at dd's.

Willow2017 · 29/12/2017 22:55

Squirrels
Thats a bit off. All your plans knocked sideways.

Been playing games with ds2 had a good giggle. Not so funny getting myself off the gaming chair😂 god i am a wreck feel about 100.

Selena just remembered that i have been taking 2 magnesium tablets every morning for last 3 weeks they dont seem to be doing much for my dodgy joints🤔

Watching Victoria wood on tv. What a clever lady sadly missed.

bookbook · 29/12/2017 23:58

Evening all!
Just got in - had a great time , lots of good food. Still stuffed - can't resist an After 8 either it seems Grin
Played something called Cards against Humanity after DGS went to bed (funny but totally non PC !) and then canasta, which we love.
Selena - soup maker sounds good- especially if it sautes - that is the most important bit of soup making
Chasing - thats some bad timing for you over New Year. We don't really do anything for it , so will be around if you need a chat.
Cake - MIL visit done and dusted, but honestly just turning up? [hmmm] . Tree will be coming down on Monday here
Willow - getting down anywhere is no problem here - getting up, I have to work at it , so you are not alone ...
Hope everyone else is okay
Sleep well
Thoughts and Prayers

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2017 00:30

Glad MIL visit went OK Cake.

Annoying about your plans Chasing.

Did I miss what you've done to your hip Willow? I've a dodgy left hip too, but have just put it down to getting older and general creakiness.

On the plus side, my throat has improved today so I've got off the couch & have been pottering around doing much needed housework. We won't mention the dust behind my bed - urrgh!

Think I might venture into town tomorrow and have a look at the sales. I am so enjoying having a break from work. The last few months have been so ridiculously busy and it's nice being able to chill, catch up on sleep and do absolutely nothing at all if I so choose.

HoHoHorsemad · 30/12/2017 00:47

Hi Everyone 🙂

Busy day catching up with friends here, weather rubbish (rain).

Can't remember who asked about Fitbit but I haven't had to measure my stride (not sure how the heck it works, 'tis magic! Xmas Grin ) Am still getting to grips with mine, the syncing with my phone seems to be playing up; will ask techy DS to have a look and make sure I'm doing it right...
Not many steps done today as was sat down too much. Will be back on it tomorrow though, hopefully.

My time off from work is rushing by Sad I need a quiet few days to just 'be,' I think.

Cake, I think I have a crochet hook somewhere, so will try and find it. Xmas Wink

NotAChristmasCakePop · 30/12/2017 07:24

Hello all.

Glad to see everyone here.

Willow I hope the hip is better today. I feel like I'm about 100 too after jumping around like a fool Grin

Horse the time is flying by. How did Christmas with the GF go? Hope she liked her presents.

Squirrel that sounds quite pants. Like book, we stay at home and do nothing, so happy to chat rubbish.

Enjoy the shops Drama town has not been too busy when we've ventured out.

book tell me about it! She did the same when we got out of hospital with DS - DH asked her to wait till we were discharged (had to wait for someone to check DS over) but she drove down anyway.
