Evening!
that sounds delicious Cake - nothing like a good roast chicken sandwich. Painting on an evening - much credit to your DH!
(I did a double decker pavlova in the end for Saturday, rather than eton mess )
just finished watching Nadiya Willow , and finished a crotchet square - multi -tasking ! Have enjoyed it so far. Packed lunches - poor you. I did DH's for years an years and it is mind numbing . How about cooking

savoury couscous or rice/ pasta pesto/tomato sauce - all cooked on a night and put in tubs in the fridge, then spooned into a container for lunch - they would last a couple of days. Maybe add tuna or a chunk of cheese. Or is that too healthy ? Grin Enjoy Edinburgh
So glad I don't need to sort other peoples haircuts now - :)
Selena - these days, the wiring has to be checked all the time . We had all new, with the latest all singing dancing fuse box thing when we had some work done. When we came to do the kitchen , it all needed doing again! It was about 12 years between the two. It seems 10 years is now the norm - not necessarily all rewired , but all checked and newest earth leakage/trip fuse box . And a certificate for the work. ( By the way - make sure you don't let them put the ovens on 13 amp plugs - Neff make some so they are easy to change for rental properties ( The hobs too - don't get one of those - they are seriously underpowered) .

Chasingsquirrels · 07/08/2017 21:30

Just waving hello 🌞🌞.
Lovely lovely holiday but ✈ home tomorrow.

SelenaValentina · 07/08/2017 21:43

squirrels so glad you're having, have had a lovely holiday!

book you are a fount of all knowledge. Thank you. The chap in JL was on about plug-in hobs and ovens and how easy they are to fit or if you change your mind. Hmmm. Don't think so. Electrician had his head screwed on though, and I don't think it has been rewired for at least 40 years. Kitchen boss is a close neighbour so don't think he'll want to be glared at for years, so do feel I can trust them not to rip me off, plus DS is tall and does weight-lifting and boxing Grin.

bookbook · 07/08/2017 22:13

good to hear you are in safe hands Selena :)
Ah Chasing - its a bit cool back here ! get a jumper to put on !
well, sleep tight

Hi all, don't know what's going on around here today with trolls and what-not!

DF isn't too great since his fall but at least it has calmed DM down a lot. I think she is in denial about how bad he is.

Quiet weekend here and very mixed weather. DC's have been out and about with their friends.

Hope you are all keeping well.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2017 22:32

Hello all Smile

Just checking in quickly. I'm safely installed in my hotel room in a drizzly London, just about to have a soak in the bath to rest my feet and my back. I've walked miles & I only got here this afternoon.

Hope all well with everyone.

JaneJeffer · 07/08/2017 22:38

Hi Drama hope you have a lovely holiday.

SelenaValentina · 07/08/2017 22:39

Hello Drama. How good to hear that it's wet in London whilst it's been lovely here in North West, they must have got our weather from last night. Sad

Hope it clears out quickly and you have a great time - don't wear yourself out though Grin

Willow2017 · 07/08/2017 22:46

Book thanks but my two dont like couscous or pasta/pesto/tomato sauses. Sorry! (I am not a fan of pesto either) Have cold meats, individual quiches for ds2, spicy peri-peri chicken bits for ds1, and a few other easy things. Also stocked up on tuna and sweetcorn. Good thing is they will take raw veg/salad and fruit. WIll make up some yogurt pots with natural yogurt and fruit. Course if I am making roast, fried chicken etc will have some next day. Will get other bits like spring rolls for ds2 as and when.

Chasing glad you had a lovely time, safe flight home.

Selena sounds like your guy is on the ball, stick to your guns Smile

Drama have a great trip enjoy your soak, hope you have a glass of something there with you.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 08/08/2017 06:40

Hello all, wake up call at 6 after a night of strange dreams.

Today's agenda is survive and then at 5:15 go and get a hire car. At some point I also need to empty my car for the garage coming to collect it tomorrow morning.

Willow when are the boys back? I hate packed lunches with a passion, but in a fairly good routine and luckily they're both quite boring, so sandwich, crisps, fruit etc.

book that sounds great - DH loves pavlova but I rarely have the time/energy to make my own meringue!

Selena that does indeed sound like a double gulp! Glad you have someone you trust in charge.

Squirrel I hope you have a safe journey home. Glad you had lots of sun.

What have you got planned drama? Meant to be wet, wet and wet Sad

Hi Jane I'm glad that your mum has calmed down. Hope your IBS is behaving.

Right, best go and shower and face the day!

Rain rain rain Sad

Got to go to work and we are short-staffed, so very busy. Makes the time fly though!

Hope you enjoy your trip Drama, what do you have planned?

Hope everyone has a good day, will check in later Smile

bookbook · 08/08/2017 08:35

Morning all
very grey here- local weather predicting rain all day, but it has not arrived ...yet .....you can keep it Horse . :)
Jane - falls can often highlight other problems too, sadly .. Hope your DF gets the help he needs , and its not all on your shoulders.
Drama - hope you have comfy shoes!! Shame about the weather, but when we go to London, we seem to spend most time indoors - DH loves the British Museum and you can spend days in there :)
Cake - only trouble with pavlova is using up all the egg yolks! We had frittata last night for tea with mostly egg yolks with just a couple of whole eggs added . Nice and rich ! Clearing the car out is a pain. Is it just off to be sorted, or is it a write off?
Willow - sounds like you are sorted and know what they will eat. It is just such a chore though. How is the cooker hunt going - as regards reviews - you need to read them a bit carefully, because sometimes they mark them down because of something that wouldn't matter to you.
Well better go and get dressed - due to forecast, we are off to get my bits from the market and then off to stock up on boring stuff at Makro .
pah - Horse wasn't listening - rain has arrived while I was typing .
Have a good day all

Horsemad · 08/08/2017 09:14

☔ Sorry book!

Willow2017 · 08/08/2017 09:26

Morning all
book yes I an reading them all. Some seem fine then you get 3 reviews all saying that the oven door causes condensation and you need towels on the floor to mop up the puddles of water! Or the numbers round the dials have rubbed of within 3 weeks. It's all very disheartening 😀

Trying to prize ds1 out of bed he doesn't want to go! Give me strength. Sun shining but supposed to be showers later in afternoon fingers crossed.
jane hope your dad is better and you get the support he needs so it's not all on you.

Have a great day folks.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 08/08/2017 14:19

Just to be sorted, but we've just got to the point where we've started to tentatively look at replacing it as it is old and worn out and hardly anything works Blush It was also covered in so much crumbs, hair and sand that I needed to at least shake out the mats.

So far we've survived and it's also been dry here against the odds!

I know, we have omelette with the left over yolks on the rare occasion that I make it.

Argh, Willow hope you find one good one!

Afternoon all
Just got in from the shopping . It has been raining steadily all day.
So - cup of tea, and then see who snaps and puts coat on to empty the car :)
Willow - sorry -< teaching Grandma to suck eggs> - I should have known you would :) Truly sad that they produce stuff like that in this day and age .
Cake - car buying is worse than cooker buying!
We have DGS in the car about once a week. We took his car seat out while they were on holiday - underneath was absolutely piles of crumbs - but we never give him things to eat in the car - were are they from?
We had lunch out today - do you know what I find a bit odd these days - the 'garnish' - I had a jacket potato ( yes , I know it's August!) and it came with the usual bit of salad and coleslaw. But it had a big pile of crisps as well . Why? Is it all bits of salad have crisps? I'm just intrigued at the thought behind it .

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 08/08/2017 19:50

One very shiny car collected. DH and I both exhausted. DS zonked.

Tell me about it book I think we need to get a Ford S Max.

Why on earth would they serve a jacket with crisps? Hmm

Hope all well and that your day wasn't too mad in the end horse

Evening all.

book don't be daft bit of friendly advice never goes amis😀

Sore feet, aching back but had a lovely day in glorious sunshine. Walked miles, watched street performers, happened upon a Lego exhibit with the Lego artists in situ, a hunt the figure comp for kids it was good fun and the displays were fab. Found a proper joke shop and a Harry Potter shop. Drooled over the stuff inside but didn't buy as pretty expensive 😲
Love the old town architecture (actually a lot of it could come straight out of HP) and sent through a lot of my old stomping grounds sadly all old shops H/M & goth I used to frequent all gone.
Spent too long in Forbidden Planet lusting after TWD figures😀 and kids swithering over stuff.

Even ds1 enjoyed himself (after first 10 mins of me considering pushing him in front of a train before we even left the station 😀)

It's good to get back to the hustle of the city once in a while and it was heaving with people of course due to festival.

cake oh the angst I had over getting my present car was about round the twist before I got it. This one can fall apart before I do that again ( kind of like my last one😀)

Have a nice evening folks.

YourselfOrSomeoneLikeYou · 08/08/2017 21:28

Sounds like a great day willow yes, car shopping is a pain. I want something reliable and big but lovely as this new one is I can't afford it there's no point with 4-5 small people being carted about in it!

Tucked up in bed now. Night all!

bookbook · 08/08/2017 21:35

Willow :) - sounds like a great day!
My niece has three DC - and went around looking for a car that would fit three car seats in - she ended up with a Ford S max I think ( its actually a 7 seater)
Night Cake -
Just put down the crotchet, watching the athletics .
Hope you have got home safe and sound Chasing , and also hope you are enjoying London Drama
Sleep tight all
Thoughts and Prayers

Willow2017 · 08/08/2017 22:07

My vw turan has room for 3 big car seats in the middle with 2 small seats in back. But if the back seats are up there is very little room boot wise you won't get a big buggy in just a basic one. But if you dont need one it's fine. Huge boot with seats down.
I looked at the bigger c/s max but would have been terrified trying to park one 😀

SelenaValentina · 08/08/2017 22:09

We all sound to have had interesting days, to say the least!

Heating man phoned. May be having new water thing at end of next week, taking heating unit away for 'proper' service then can be 'properly and safely' re-housed, asbestos taken away by ET type suited men, tells me he doesn't 'believe in wasting time. Job needs doing right'. And so say all of us! DH would have loved him! Kitchen man came over twice to check stuff.

I'm away in early September and the plan now is for electrician and wall-basher/builder to hopefully move in the second I'm off and bash and prod to their hearts' content so I get back to dust being settled (ish, I would think) and units ready to be fitted.

Thankfully DS has last week in August off so can do his weightlifting, fitness stuff here in action rather than at the gym. Grin

I do think I might be mad. I'm going to look at flooring tomorrow - Karndean, Amtico -- any advice you wise people?

Willow2017 · 08/08/2017 23:47

Wow Selena sounds full on, you arent messing about are you? Its gonna be great when its all finished. Good plan to be away and miss all the mess too.

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2017 00:35

Willow sounds like you had a lovely day. I'm with you on the sore feet, mine are killing me.

Selena your kitchen is coming along nicely by the sounds of it. Sorry no idea about flooring. Mine is ceramic tiles, which look lovely but are cold and hard - if you drop anything it breaks.

The promised rain didn't appear at all today. Good job as I walked a lot. Forecast is bad for tomorrow though.

I went to Kensington Palace this morning, strolled through Kensington Gardens afterwards and made my way to the museums. Wandered around the V&A and the Natural History, then took the tube to the British Museum. I just did the galleries I really wanted to see in all three of them. This evening I went to see Mamma Mia. OMG I loved it, it was amazing, just such good fun and at the end the whole audience were on their feet dancing. Great stuff.

Knackered now, and I've been MNing in bed with a glass of pino grigio beside me Grin

Willow2017 · 09/08/2017 00:47

Drama yo had a lovely day too Smile

I have decided that after kids go back to school I am taking myself off to Edinburgh for a day out on my own to do the kind of thing you did. Cant wait.

Saw Mama Mia years ago, when very pregnant! It was great fun. But I cant listen to 'slipping through my fingers' without blubbling!
