Couple swapping

user1484939839 · 20/01/2017 19:23

Hello

New name, you know....

I am on here a lot but not this topic.

Anyway....

Advice please....

Happily married - typical 2 kids mid 30s etc etc

Friends have suggested quite openly that we swap. We are due to stay at thiers tomorrow night, they live about 100 miles away.

We have a relaxed, chatty, friendly relationship with them. Been on holiday as couples. Not that long standing. No deep and meaningful discussions.

The haven't swapped before and neither have we. My husband and I had vaguely thought about it before kids with another couple but it never happened. This couple just sort of suggested we all try the last time we met up which was for dinner rather than staying over. Holiday means that boobs, bums, wobbly bits, and so on have already been exposed.

I have to admit, I fancy the idea, hubby too, and I texted just now to say ummmmm ok.

Thoughts?

Bad idea?

SH

Do it! Life's too short!

LoveDeathPrizes · 21/01/2017 00:37

I could never do it. It would just feel wrong. Plus I don't really have the wrist strength.

I tried doing it with a corgette once but it just fell apart.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/01/2017 00:49

"Couldn't care less about the swinging, but did OP just refer to mid-30s as 'middle-aged' "

Fair enough really? Average life expectancy is only 80. Middle age is the middle bit between young and old. I'm mid 30s and definitely not young anymore.

I have no opinion on the swinging- each to their own.

Courgettes are wrong.

WildBelle · 21/01/2017 01:25

I wondered why I was charged £1.42 for a single courgette in the Spar shop yesterday!

WildBelle · 21/01/2017 01:27

As for the swinging, probs wouldn't op, I have dabbled in that world as a single person but wouldn't risk it in a relationship with someone I loved for all the tea in China. Too much potential for things to go wrong and you can't undo it once it's done.

*Butternut spaghetti?

Well I never.*

There is literally a thing called spaghetti squash. No spiralisers needed and tastes awesome.

IceCat · 21/01/2017 03:21

"wife swapping is your future, you know that it would suit ya... ohhh the stereotypes"

Blur, just thought I'd quote ;D

operaha · 21/01/2017 08:42

But where can you buy spaghetti squash? I found one that a person was selling from their own homegrown stuff in our village last year, twas amazing. Think I'll get some seeds... and bloody courgette ones while I'm at it Shock

dangerrabbit · 21/01/2017 08:50

I'm mid 30s and have considered myself middle aged since I turned 30. Surely middle aged covers 30-60?

Flappergirl86 · 21/01/2017 09:01

Dunno why people are being such arse holes about your situation!

I personally wouldn't do it, it could well alter your relationships permanently and if you've got a good thing going it's not worth the risk. If you like the idea of swinging find a couple you don't know as friends to do it with. All of the fun and none of the risk. Or at least significantly less risk. Unless you meet a Fred & Rose West type...

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 21/01/2017 09:15

I've had spaghetti squash but never found it on sale here in the U.K. But I really had no idea you could spiralise a butternut squash. I thought they were too mushy.

Ocado have a spiraliser on sale. I'm tempted.

Huskylover1 · 21/01/2017 09:43

So....you want to shag another man.....and your husband is quite happy for you to do so......and your husband wants to shag another woman.....and you are happy for him to do so.....

I'd end the marriage. Romeo and Juliet, this ain't.

bastardlyandmutley · 21/01/2017 09:50

Aldi have spiralised butternut squash. It did go mushy.

Tezacat · 21/01/2017 10:01

I'm 30 and definitely don't consider myself middle aged.

Ok OP Grin rolls eyes

debbs77 · 21/01/2017 11:07

As long as you've thought it through carefully, and discuss terms beforehand, including men together and women together, then why not? If you're strong enough in your marriage then go for it, you only live once!

maras2 · 21/01/2017 11:08

UterusUterusGhali · 21/01/2017 11:14

I'm going to grow my own this year.

Worried they'll get nicked off the allotment if the crisis deepens.

SirMixALot · 21/01/2017 12:32

I was going to buy a spiralizer but I suppose there's no point now.

BubbleWrapQueen · 21/01/2017 12:34

I'm 34 and I am not middle aged. God damn it.

Ps OP, better luck next time

BottleBeach · 21/01/2017 14:30

I fucking love Mumsnet

OP: shall I try swinging?
MN: yawn. Let's talk about spaghetti squash.

Grin
DollyPS · 21/01/2017 14:38

Let's see
Never done it before but want to with friends
Err no way
Are any of you jealous if so it won't work even with randoms of the net
Are you totally rock solid in your relationship if not don't do it
How are you going to feel if one likes it more than the other.

If you do go ahead
Set out ground rules first
Play safe too.

Courgettes are disgusting by the way.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/01/2017 14:47

Courgettes are a bugger to grow because of the bastarfing slugs and snails.

CalebWomble · 21/01/2017 14:49

Surely a courgette is more mushy than a butternut squash?
