Want to stop shaving....Any advice?

Hello MN!

I need a few of your wise words, anecdotes and perhaps a kick up the backside!

I've been with DP for about a year and we absolutely adore each other but I really want to stop shaving down below and I'm not sure how to broach it.

While I can shave my underarms relatively comfortably and can epilate my legs, shaving bikini line and beyond is a bloody nightmare.

I've tried extra sensitive gels, super expensive men's and women's razors....Nothing works. After one day I'm in red, blotchy, itchy hell, not to mention the ingrown hairs. It's so sore that it looks red raw and horrible.

DP is generally an extremely supportive and caring man and would usually do anything to prevent me experiencing discomfort but he's been quiet on this one so far - even reminding me he shaves his junk "for me" (despite me repeatly saying I don't care or even notice if he's shaved).

I've let it grow out at the moment on the premise that I'll slget it waxed "soon" but the idea of someone ripping it all out terrified me.

I think I just need to put my big girl pants on and tell him the fuzz stays. A bit of womanly fuzz has got to be a better look than red raw prickly skin anyway!

Help! Has anyone else done this?

Me too Dame, and I've been around! However DH has just submitted for inspection and I can confirm there is the odd hair, a few straglers if you will. Not a full-on nob-bush.

ShatnersBassoon · 19/01/2017 18:53

It is usually a few stragglers, not a full bottle brush Confused Grin

I think it's something that comes with age.

FlyWaxSleepRepeat · 19/01/2017 19:01

As someone who waxes peoples genitals for a living, I can confirm that in my professional and personal life I've never ever seen a completely hair free penis - although they are by the time I'm done with them Grin

OP I think if you want to leave it then leave it.

The fact that you feel it's worthy of a "compromise up your sleeve" and a text to inform your DP of what you plan on doing with your own pubic hair is not normal in a relationship and a bit worrying.

If you are going to try waxing then make sure you find someone that uses hot peelable wax, not strips, and that they don't double dip their spatulas.

Carnabyqueen · 19/01/2017 19:16

Agree with PP. compromise is needed on many issues in a relationship but how YOU groom YOUR own pubic hair shouldn't be one of them. If he's so superficial to be put off by your perfectly natural hair then he's as shallow as a puddle.

Gosh, op managed to get loads of intimate anecdotes out of everyone! The Daily Mail/Wright Stuff will be rubbing their hands/thighs with glee at this thread.

Elledouble · 19/01/2017 19:37

No to shaved penises!

They always put me in mind of these...

I get a wax every 4 weeks (everything off) and DP trims his public hair. We don't like getting hairs stuck in our mouths when performing oral on each other!!

OP I'd suggest you wax rather than shave. But if you want to grow it out, do what you want! But personally I'd feel really gross with a hairy foof. Each to their own

Someone mentioned waxing it all off wasn't heard of 20 years ago, I think they might be in some kind of time warp

Grin

i know in my culture women have been waxing for years, they make their own sugar wax. you can roll it into a chewing gum style texture and refrigerate the rest for next time.

The women/concubines in the Maharaja's harem would have all bodily hair waxed (except for head, eyebrows etc) at all times.
I bet the egyptian queens did it too....wonder if our royal family does? Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/01/2017 22:06

My mum used to sugar wax her legs in the 70's ,I remeber her cooking it up Grin only legs though!

Some of the comments in this thread deserve an award 😂

Aquamarine1029 · 20/01/2017 02:31

So long as you keep it trimmed and neat, I doubt he will even care.

GeorgiePeachie · 20/01/2017 09:43

CouldntMake I heard that to stave off the long boring days doing nothing they would TWEEZE! Which is where I got the idea anyway!

ArcheryAnnie · 20/01/2017 11:03

GeorgiePeachy if you read "117 Days", the book by the extraordinary anti-apartheid activist Ruth First about her time in a South African prison in the 60s, she was so bored that she asked for a tweezer and did her legs! That must have taken up quite a lot of time.

(I am now worried I have either unnecessarily raised the tone of this thread, or lowered the average tone of the "117 Days" review oeuvre by posting about it here. Seriously, it's am amazing book by an amazing woman, though.)

CouldntMakeThisShitUp · 20/01/2017 20:00

Tweezing is awesome!

I got my first tweezer aged 14 (no funds to replace the razors), and used to spend my spare time tweeting everything i could reach. I'd shave first and tweeze when they started poking through.
i actually find it rather soothing and good for winding down

now, at 36, the lower half of my arms and legs barely grow any new hair Grin

Tried my mums Immac a few times (back in the days before Veet came along Grin ) .
I learnt why they say not to use it on your face Hmm

i used it above my eyebrows to get rid of the scraggly bits - and then spent the next couple of weeks being teased to fuck for having two very noticeable lighter patches on my forhead.
I looked hideously ridiculous! Shock Blush Blush

I have a hot wax which is much less painful. Have a g string bikini wax which is good for swimmers, bikinis etc. Can't imagine tweezing - so much to go that it would be like the Forth Bridge - never finished!!

inflatableflowers · 26/01/2017 22:37

I think we might have had the same wax lady AnnieAnoniMouse , too many similarities not to be.

Her salon is in a town that begins with W.
