The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now) 13. Matthew Hussey also very useful. And very easy on the eye even if you don't find him any good. 14. IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP, THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP.

Was very new to Tinder (and all OLD) so please do not laugh at how naive I was but...

Met the guy in a bar (we had been talking online and offline for a week or two so I thought I had got the measure of him). He said 'Would you like a pint?' I said 'Yes please' and he said 'I'll get this one, do you want a line too?' and I said 'Pardon?' and he went on to proffer a line of cocaine. We had exchanged 21 words in person. I am a liberal and open minded kind of person but jeesus I was thrown.

I was so taken aback that I just mumbled 'Err, no thanks.' He got me the pint and I went to sit down. We talked for maybe an hour and I was just about to make my friend do an emergency phone call and he said 'Babe, I will commit to you, you know, if that is what you want?' so I went to the toilet and never returned. Amazing I ever went on another date again really.

TheDatingDoofus · 02/04/2016 13:44

Oh god!! Well done indeed for not letting it put you off forever!

"I will commit to you" Grin Grin Grin

GeordieBadger · 02/04/2016 13:47

Loving the worst job one!

GeordieBadger · 02/04/2016 13:50

Shame dying laughing here!!!!

Anyone else got any stories of doing a runner?

Shameandregret · 02/04/2016 14:17

It says a lot about me that the thing that wound me up the most was him calling me babe Grin

lastnicknamefree · 02/04/2016 14:53

Nearly 3pm and my old (ish) iron who I've not even spoken to for a few days sends me a message saying sorry he can't meet up at the park today now as his daughter had gone to a party! I mean do these men think we're sitting at home waiting for them after not even making firm arrangements and then silence for 2/3 days? Shock I replied saying oh right well I'm out enjoying the sunshine anyway and I assumed you'd made other plans too seeing as we havnt spoken for a few days!

Shameandregret · 02/04/2016 15:15

They are weird aren't they last I haven't heard from MrMath since yesterday morning and we are meant to be going on a second date tomorrow (all confirmed). The petulant child in me wants to text him and say 'if you don't want to bother that is fine' but I know ice maiden is the way to go. Twats!

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 15:42

I did a runner on a man I will call Tall Canadian.
We were in the pub for an hour or so and he just talked and talked and talked at me. At one point I tried to say something and he sushed me. So I made an excuse about having a poorly child and ran.

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 15:54

In other news I have irons Smile

Right so there's still Captain Pugwash although I have very mixed feelings about him, he would need training Grin

I also have Captain Jack Sparrow yes, I know it's another Captain but that' definitely has to be his name he's away for the coming week but we have agreed to meet when he gets back so we'll see.

Sir Swift who has asked me for a drink this evening or tomorrow. I'm considering it.

And Charidee who wanted me to go into work to see him today. I didn't.

So there we go. It's the power of POF.

lastnicknamefree · 02/04/2016 16:17

Go Anna love all the new irons

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 16:25

Oh shite.
Charidee has asked me to go for a drink in about an hour. I'm in my pyjamas wearing a full face mask. I'd better shift it.
Wish me luck.

DrFoxtrot · 02/04/2016 16:28

Oooh Anna I do like a last minute date.

last they must think we are all just randomly waiting patiently around for them.

Don't forget updates if you're out tonight on dates!

TheDatingDoofus · 02/04/2016 16:41

Go Anna! Go!

It's 2 hours and 50 minutes until my date and I've started having the fear stomach... Shock

I should have given myself a full agenda today. I'm sitting here getting all antsy but it's far too early to start putting my makeup on or anything.

Shameandregret · 02/04/2016 17:21

Ooh Anna, I like your work! What's with all the captains and sirs haha!

doofus good luck! Loo update.

HandyWoman · 02/04/2016 17:33

Just checking in after a marathon 14hr day at work. Took an hour out to attend out-of-hours GP for rotten cold, horrific asthma and chest infection. Now have hardcore drugs.

But Twix is coming round soon am Hmm about the fact that I'm not bothered that I look like crap! Why do I not mind?! Doesn't seem to matter much....!?!

Anyway I was checking in to say - loving all
the irons, hurrah and good luck to the daters, loo updates please!!!!! Can't wait to read those..... Go go go daters......!!!!

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 17:36

Right I'm out the door and on my way...
I don't hold out much hope, I expect he's just after moose burgers in which case he'll be sadly disappointed.

Shame there's a good reason for all of them and it is just coincidence Smile

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 17:38

Hope it goes well doofus

And get well soon handy have a lovely evening.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/04/2016 17:40

Good luck Anna and Doofus!

lastnicknamefree · 02/04/2016 18:40

Wishing you fantastic dates handy doofus and anna
Looking forward to all the updates later!

I right swiped the oldest guy for me yet, but he was a sliver fox! To be fair all his photos 5? Were professional ones and may have been taken in a good light or touched up but he looked very attractive and interesting. We matched and I sent him a message which I now think was garbled and a bit me me me! Hopefully he'll reply...

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 18:44

He's nice. Looks like a young Bill Bryson. I don't want to jump on his body sadly.

lastnicknamefree · 02/04/2016 18:46

Good news...he wrote back
Bad news.... No punctuation whatsoever, may look intelligent and classy but has the writing age of my 12 year old!
To reply or not reply! Gah, maybe I shouldn't be that shallow

lastnicknamefree · 02/04/2016 18:48

anna that was quick! Oh buggar, hope you have a nice drink and back to the PJ's!

Lacoba66 · 02/04/2016 19:03

Good luck Anna &Doofus with your dates tonight Grin.

Handy how lovely that you can just be yourself with Twix especially when you're feeling rough. Hope you feel better soon.

Waving I'm dying for an update Grin.

Re worst dates...I only had 3 before Diamond and the funniest one by far, spoke of his ex all night long, to the point when there was a lull, I said "so is there anything else I should know about your ex?" He looked a little sheepish and that was the last I heard from him.

Re Diamond we had the coffee date today and a good 'heart to heart'. He showed me his phone- no dating apps anymore. Agreed that he'd been a twat and was vey apologetic again. He's not a man of many words, but when he does yap, I can't help but feel that he is being genuine.

I've decided to keep going, but he's more than aware that if anything even vaguely similar occurs, then there won't be a conversation, it will be end of.

He's returning tomorrow, for dinner (out) and maybe the cinema.

Also still keen for me to meet his parents in 9 days time Confused (they're visiting him from another part of the country).

eat314 · 02/04/2016 19:08

Ha ha, that's funny Lacoba, ''is there anything else I should know about your x?'' ha ha.

Waving is in Madrid right?! Any loo updates?

AnnaChronism · 02/04/2016 19:20

Oh we're still out, he's good company we've gone for cocktails now. Yay!
