My husband spoke these words to me last night. We've been talking about having a second child and told me he wants me to get in shape because he doesn't fancy me. I'm heartbroken. Btw, I'm 5'-4" and 9.5 stone, but he's got my 7 stone body from 10 years ago in his head. I dont know what to do.

Sorry but fwiw 7 stone is not underweight at 5'4" for everyone, and it is not seriously underweight if you have that frame. Although I do agree it is for a lot of people. Not agreeing with him at all. Just thought I would point that out.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 11/09/2014 21:57

According to BMI indicators 7 stone at that height is underweight. Why do you say it isn't?

Zazzles007 · 11/09/2014 21:58

You need to figure out why you want to play the role you are playing -- healing this man, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, pushing the square peg into the round hole.

Yep, there is another saying which I like in situations like this: Don't try to teach a pig to sing, it frustrates you, and it pisses off the pig.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 11/09/2014 22:00

It's bmi 16.8, that's too low.

MajesticWhine · 11/09/2014 22:03

NHS healthy weight calculator says at 5'4", a healthy weight is from 7 st 10 to 10 st 6. Therefore, 7 stone is well outside of that range.

It hardly seems relevant though. In any case, the guy is being an arse.

sesamstrasse · 11/09/2014 22:10

BMI is not a reliable way of measuring healthy weight unfortunately as it does not take build into account. If I was 10st 6 I would personally be very very overweight for my frame, same the other way around for those of bigger builds.

It's not relevant to the thread at all now anyway, it had only loaded the first page, so hadn't seen the replies it was just a response to the BMI comments. I am fed up with BMI being trotted out all the time with 'seriously underweight' as it's just not an accurate measure and shouldn't be used as one. I have had a fair few consultants laugh in my face when I have been sent to them over BMI concerns from those without common sense.

sesamstrasse · 11/09/2014 22:13

Will not hijack any further anyway, I haven't read the replies as had unintentionally posted where I thought was relevant due to the next probably hundred or so replies not loading, so sorry about that! For clarification, it wasn't meant to take away from how much of a twat dh was being, I was just trying to point it out while it was (I thougt) on that subject Smile

OddFodd · 11/09/2014 22:27

No, seamstress. However small your frame, 7 stone is too thin for an adult woman of that height. Please don't kid yourself it's normal. It's not.

sesamstrasse · 11/09/2014 22:35

Right ok! Not kidding myself as it is my situation, I am naturally very small, not saying it is average, but I am not 'seriously underweight". I do not try to lose weight, I have no medical issues (including eating disorders), I have been categorically told that BMI is not an accurate way of looking at weight, by consultants and others within medical profession, some people are overweight or underweight at different levels depending on their body, BMI does not work for everyone and it is so unreliable, especially smaller people who are overweight way before it gets near the top end of the 'healthy' BMI.

sesamstrasse · 11/09/2014 22:38

Just to add I am not saying the op is overweight at all! Just that if you have a tiny frame and were at the top end of BMI that is 'healthy' you would be overweight realistically. I have never stopped menstruating, and am very rarely ill, I am perfectly healthy, but my frame is very small, naturally very slim.

sesamstrasse · 11/09/2014 22:39

Sorry for derail op will leave thread now as wasn't intentional and is not relevant to the thread anymore. Good luck Smile
