Do you have something that makes you disproportionately happy?

I do.

It's my neighbours across the road. They garden together with their little baby 'helping' aswell. I'm single and make no secret of the fact i would like to have someone i could do normal house and family stuff with but seeing these 3 out together working as a team brings me so much (unexpected) joy that i actually wonder if i'm a bit weird.

Does anyone else have something simple that brings you joy like this?

My hair! I spent years working in a corporate job I hated to pay the bills and now I'm out of there I take great joy in dyeing my hair bright colours (its currently electric blue).

British strawberries eaten out the punnet from a local farm shop. They spurt juice everywhere and taste amazing

Blue skies bubble bar by lush - I love patchouli and just the smell makes me happy

Someone making me a cup of tea or food - I live alone so it happens once in a blue moon!!

Oh and one that made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt for ages
Small child, dog and man waiting to cross the road. Man says to child "what do we do before we cross the road?"
Small child "SIT!"
Dog and small child sit on pavement. Man is trying not to laugh but I could see his shoulders shaking

Drying clothes outside. Dh does a lot of eye rolling when I talk about it and make him smell the clean clothes.

Getting a good bit of lint out the drier.

Peeling burnt skin.

DS saying Mummy or my actual name if he's being cheeky.

A good commute/nursery run.

In one of the houses behind us there's a lady with a toddler, and she sometimes sings to him when she puts him down for his afternoon nap. I love hearing it.

AWombWithoutARoof · 30/04/2014 13:42

The sun being out, particularly at the start of spring. Feeling the warmth and seeing the blue sky makes me absurdly cheery.

Bexicles · 30/04/2014 13:43

Yes, mine is filling up the fridge and cupboards after I have done the shopping! The cupboards always seemed bare at home was I was growing up so I love stocking up on lots of healthy delicicious food for us! (Easily pleased!)

A while back I asked my Yr 6 DD if she was still okay with holding hands (we do it occasionally on the way to school, almost without thinking iykwim) as I was wondering if she just didn't want to hurt my feelings and wouldn't say that it was damaging her cred.

She said "No, I like holding hands and we wont get to do it much longer, because I'll be walking to the Bus Stop on my own when I go to High School. But can, you stop call me in public, that really is embarrassing."

It made me really happy that she is still okay with me being affectionate, but also okay to tell what she doesn't want too.

Getting into a clean, freshly ironed bed. It's bliss

Jubelteen · 30/04/2014 13:48

Watching washing blowing on the line outside.
Getting into a freshly laundered bed.
Watching my dogs wolfing their dinners down.
Making a batch of Yorkshire puds that rise perfectly.
A few hours of uninterrupted reading time.
A beautiful sunset - had a lovely one last night.
Looking up at the stars on a clear night.
I could go on and on, loads of things give me that 'all is well in the world' feeling. It's nice to be able to find pleasure in small things

Oh this is brilliant! Grin i would have struggled to control the giggles.

I miss line drying my clothes sooo much. For some reason washing lines hate me. Whirly lines and straight ones ALL collapse in my garden. The poles kink and break or the lines snap. I have been through 4 washing lines in 3 years and i've just stopped buying them now. I dont overload them or put washing on when it is very windy but they still break. All washing has to be dried in the hot press now. I hate it.

Seeing tulips.
When towels have been dried out on the line and don't need to go in the dryer.
Having a long bath and reading.

ReluctantCamper · 30/04/2014 13:51

My bed of raspberry canes. I go and gloat over all the flowers that are going to turn into delicious fruit.

DS unexpectedly holding my hand (trite but true!).

rocketjam · 30/04/2014 13:51

Running water that we can drink, on tap, at home.

My DS asked me the other if I thought we were rich. I said we are rich, richer than 98% of the rest of the planet, and I pointed out the running water. I think he thought I was bonkers.

ToffeeMoon · 30/04/2014 13:53

Hearing my baby doing a good loud fart! Better out than in, as my granny would have said.

Hearing anybody else's fart would repulse me. The baby has about another six months of this being cute.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 30/04/2014 13:53

Thats a very good point rocketjam. We are very lucky to live where we do.

Being the first one into the bed when I've changed the sheets and it's all lovely and fresh and crisp.

Seeing my cats kissing or grooming each other.

Seeing my DD and DS playing with my little niece. She's loads younger than they are and they cart her around like a parcel. She loves it and so do they.

moobaloo · 30/04/2014 13:56

Seeing daffodils growing

Seeing parents interacting with their kids with real enthusiasm and love

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/04/2014 13:56

The scent of a huge bunch of daffodils - DH just doesn't get it and always buys sodding lilies

Walking in the door to a HUGE welcome from my kids at the end of a sh*t day/commute

VeryAgedParent · 30/04/2014 14:01

Coming in from work to find someone else has cooked dinner for the family, doesn't happen often chez moi although DS4's girlfriend prepared dinner for everyone a month or so ago, and it filled me with indescribable pleasure!

I love waking up at the weekend realising I don't have to "commute".

skinmysunshine · 30/04/2014 14:07

Clean sheets
Bath, candles, kindle
Wearing flip flops
Sitting in the sun reading with the sound of cricket or tennis in the background
Waking up to the sun squeezing through the shutters
The feeling you get when you are shucking an oyster and it goes

CinnabarRed · 30/04/2014 14:11

The cows in the field behind our garden, especially when I hang out the washing in the early morning before work and they come and watch.

Yes, they're smelly. Yes, the flies are huuuugge. Yes, the make a hell of a racket from dawn onwards. But my heart lifts each Spring when the buttercups come out, and I know that the cows will be turned out of their winter sheds very soon.
