Do you have something that makes you disproportionately happy?

I do.

It's my neighbours across the road. They garden together with their little baby 'helping' aswell. I'm single and make no secret of the fact i would like to have someone i could do normal house and family stuff with but seeing these 3 out together working as a team brings me so much (unexpected) joy that i actually wonder if i'm a bit weird.

Does anyone else have something simple that brings you joy like this?

Singing along to karaoke on Youtube when everyone else is out the house. Today I have been Carly Simon and Alanis Morissette. The latter surprised the postman I think.

4 year old DD and her philosophising on the universe etc

yesterday gardening, told her to be quiet as the blackbird was building a nest in the rhododendron bush, sge says "will they lay eggs" i nod next question " when the baby birds are big birds will they un-nest?"

or I know about the big bang but who started the bang?

she has just painted me a butterfly to make me extra happy... it has

When my son returned from seeing his dad he was away for a whole month, he sent me an email from his bedroom saying that when I picked him up from the airport 'his heart beated really fast because he forgot how beautiful I was' whenever I feel shit I look at that and it puts everything into perspective.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 30/04/2014 16:19

Ahh OP that gardening family would make me coo too.

Mine is a hot water bottle. Id have one every night if I remembered before getting into bed.

Polkadotpatty · 30/04/2014 16:20

My DN (5) leaping into my arms when I picked her up from school as a surprise.
My cat's welcome when I get home, which is all about the cuddles and purring for as long as two minutes before I get herded towards the kitchen Grin
My lilac tree coming into glorious white bloom.
Armfuls of clean laundry just taken off the line.
Seeing the changes to my house as I gradually get things ready for a child to live in - new fence and gates went up today Smile

Listening to my toddler twins' inane chit chat in the morning before they get out of bed.

My dog.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 30/04/2014 16:25

Oh twins!! Twins make me smile. Especially when they are small and toddly Grin

When my DS1 (then a feisty 4 year old) taught his little brother how to cross his legs before his first day at nursery school.

The blossom on a tree outside the shop, on an otherwise ugly street, it is like a piece of heaven.

Children giggling. Gets me everytime.

deerkitty · 30/04/2014 16:28

He was 10 at the time. When I bring it up he is mortified.

Timetoask · 30/04/2014 16:28

When the weather is good, sometimes after collecting DS 7yrs old from school we play in the garden, playing mini tennis, kicking a ball, he is so much fun and we always end up giggling about something.
He really brightens my days.

"When my DS1 (then a feisty 4 year old) taught his little brother how to cross his legs before his first day at nursery school. "

Looking at the stars on a clear night. It was really amazing on our last holiday as we lay on the beach. We could see loads as there was no light pollution, it was magical.

Seeing the washing outside on the line.

Having a day with DH. He works 7 days a week almost every single week (apart from when we go on holiday/Christmas). I really cherish those days.

Being at the beach.

Walks in the country, I love the feeling of being free there.

The smells of farms Blush I love it and inhale really deeply.

PamHalpert · 30/04/2014 16:33

The smell of freshly cut grass

Picking spots Blush

sebsmummy1 · 30/04/2014 16:35

Taking my 18 month old sons trousers and socks off in the afternoon/early evening. So I can see his chubby legs and feet and he can feel the freedom of sinking his feet into grass on the lawn or kicking his legs into the air when playing.

I get a ridiculous amount of pleasure and soul nourishment from it, whereas my partner thinks I'm mad and wants to know where his trousers are Grin

daughteritsmeagain · 30/04/2014 16:37

i don't know if its 'disproportionate' but i get really, really happy when i see my daughter's and my granddaughter's curls!

and daughter's hair is really red today - that makes me happy, too.

paragirl1981 · 30/04/2014 16:40

When I pick dd up from pre school and she comes running up to me shouting mummy mummy! Then she jumps into my arms and we have a big cuddle Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 30/04/2014 17:05

My children's clothes all ironed and folded tidy in their drawers, all organised with season-inappropriate stuff weeded out.

Disclaimer - this occurs about twice a year only.

Plomino · 30/04/2014 17:40

Putting down loads and loads of new straw in the horses stables , then banking it all up the sides so it's lovely and comfy and up to their knees when they come in , then seeing them in their pyjamas on a cold winters night , munching away on their hot dinners .

Of course when I go back out in the morning the whole stable looks like they've had a rave in it , but hey ho.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 30/04/2014 17:49

Ive never seen horse pyjamas! What are they? Sound very cute Grin

My first sighting of the swallows that nest nearby, hearing the cuckoo across the field behind my home and the skylark - they all make my heart sing.

FernieB · 30/04/2014 17:53

Washing on the line
My house rabbit leaping and then rolling over so he's upside down
Smell of the ground in summer after a rain shower
Blossom
Getting to the bottom of the laundry basket
Tadpoles in my pond and when the tailless squirrel visits the garden
Fledglings being fed by mum and dad on our bird feeder
My DDs beating me at tennis
