Odd one this and don't know what to make of it. Well I guess I do, it's not great, but would appreciate some opinions

Been seeing a guy for about three months. Everything is fine really lovely in fact. He's very respectful of me and my children we see each other when we can, he's very thoughtful everything is lovely.

So today he's on the phone sorting out his mobile phone contract and gives the telephonist his date of birth. I'm on the train home doing the sums and thinking if the date of birth he's given is correct then he's actually one year younger than he said he was

I messaged him to ask how old he was he maintains the he's xx (the age he originally told me) and finally admits he's yy (the year younger age). I question him he says he tells everybody he's yy

I just can't get my head around it. Why lie? Why lie again when I question him (this is the biggest problem for me)

I'm really not bothered about the age, why would I be, it's one year! But it's really bothering me that he continued to lie when questioned...

We've arranged to meet on Monday and I really want to gather my thoughts before then. What do I make of this? My instinct is that this is awful he really shouldn't be lying so early on in the relationship
:(

So he is insisting that he tells you the truth and lies to the world?

What about all his ID/documents?

Weird. I would be very wary of the lies.

Hairytoes · 30/11/2012 20:51

Well unless he is telling you he is 16 and is really only 15 I wouldn't worry!
It's easy to forget your age give or take a year, I do it all the time.

ohfunnyface · 30/11/2012 20:52

Really weird. Would make me question everything he said.

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 20:52

It's so weird Ali-that's why I can't make sense if it

Why lie? And just one year, what's the point! Admittedly it takes him from one decade to another, perhaps he thinks it's better to be in his XXs rather than in his YYs. But you're right the lies aren't good are they

All his documents show his true age, I don't really know who he is telling his age to perhaps he means previously to other women he has met?

getagoldtoof · 30/11/2012 20:54

Weird. What possible reasons could there be for this? Are you a police officer? Might he be worried you'll do a CRB? (weird!)

wannabedomesticgoddess · 30/11/2012 20:54

Forgetting your age is one thing.

Actively lying about it is another.

Its definately a bit strange. Did you ask him why he tells this younger age to everyone?

Hairytoes · 30/11/2012 20:55

Mmmmmm, now just read it through properly, the lying again when you questioned him is a bit odd....... will ponder on that for a bit.

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 20:56

Yes hairy it is easy to forget a year give or take but I get the impression that he hasn't forgotten he just tells everybody he is YY, including me. The problem is he continued to lie when I questioned him. Why not just day actually I'm XX when I first asked him? That's what bothers me

And it's so weird really weird funny. I just can't make sense of it and neither can my sister

bradywasmyfavouriteking · 30/11/2012 20:57

I tell everyone I am 29, I am actually 29 and 19 months.

Don't know why. Its a bit sad but I really don't want to be older than 29.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 30/11/2012 20:57

I would be wondering what else he has lied about.

bradywasmyfavouriteking · 30/11/2012 20:58

Maybe he continued lying because he felt a bit of dick for being bothered about his age.

I know I do. Grin

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 20:58

Haha no not a police officer Grin

He's here on a self-employed working visa so has to have police checks etc anyway.

Oh dear this is going to sound even more weird. Yes I did say why do you say you're Xx he says because that's how old he feels!

Weird weird weird. But honestly I'm so sad because he was so lovely and how can I trust anything he says now?

OP posts:
Hairytoes · 30/11/2012 20:58

I'm wit getagoldtoof, maybe CRB check. How did you meet him?

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:01

Brady very funny made me chuckle

Ok don't know why I'm continuing with the xx and the yy - he's 29 and said he was 30 same as you!

I think he wants to appear older than he is (I am 35) but he should know I wouldn't be bothered about age I really like him. But he told me he was 30 from the start before I even told him my age. In other respects he's more mature than 40 year olds I have met! But the lying...

Just sad that I may hve to end this as its been fine up to now. But like others have said what else may he have lied about?

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:03

Well if nothin else you have made me chuckle Brady Grin so that is something

Met him in a nightclub. Like I said has to check into police station etc because of being here on a self employed visa. He had lived in the uk for two years

OP posts:
bradywasmyfavouriteking · 30/11/2012 21:03

Nope don't get why you would make yourself older. But thats my issue with age.

I do get why you are concerned. I would find it weird.

bradywasmyfavouriteking · 30/11/2012 21:04

Glad I made you smile, though. Wink

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:05

But it's not like he's really trying to conceal it-he showed me his passport a few weeks ago-if he was really concerned about not finding out he wouldn't have done that

Just weird

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 30/11/2012 21:06

Just tell him him beinf daft about his age has made you consider if he is lying about anything else so now is the time to admit anything he needs to admit. If anything comes out later then get rid.

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:07

About *me not finding out

Yeah thanks Brady :)

So we all agree its weird but where do
I go from here?

OP posts:
ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:09

Yy JF that's exactly what I said to him on the telephone. And he said he understands that. I turned the scenario around and asked him how he would feel.

My thinking is to tell him I need a bit of space of the weekend and we should have a chat on Monday when we had planned to meet. I dot know what else to do really apart from end it :(

OP posts:
Hairytoes · 30/11/2012 21:14

I would maybe look into the having to check into a police station if you are here on a self employed visa. I haven't a clue about it, but a (very) quick google didn't bring anything up.

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:17

He has to register his passport at the local police station and he has recently done so. I can find out though (through work)

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 30/11/2012 21:17

Would him being a year older than he said make a difference to his visa, or are you worried he isn't who he said he was?

ElvisIsKing · 30/11/2012 21:18

Sorry I mean find out whether he actually has to do that (I work in law)
