Is this too creepy to tolerate? [WARNING: extreme subject matter]

I'm posting on behalf of my best friend (for real, she is sat beside me but is not familiar with Mumsnet).

She has recently begun dating a new guy (for a couple months), whom she has known for over ten years as a friend, albeit mostly long distance as he works and lives long periods abroad. He is also Chinese (only relevant because I am genuinely unsure as to whether there are any cultural differences that might make his confession less bizarre than it sounds to me).

He has confessed to her that his ultimate fantasy about intimacy involves eating someone (albeit only ever with their consent).

He says he has never actually eaten part of anyone, but fantasizes about finding someone who would consent to giving him small pieces of flesh (that would not overly harm the person), that he could cook and perhaps even share with them.

Now, she tells me all this in a very relaxed (almost flippant) way, and I can't help but sit here and inwardly think !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

She tells me that in her opinion it is no worse than people who fantasize about whipping/strangling each other, and that although it is freaky, the important thing is that he has no wish to do anything without someone else's wholehearted participation.

So now I am uncertain as to whether I really am being a bit intolerant (and judgemental), or if there is something about this particular fantasy that is just too dangerous (and creepy) to tolerate.

Mumsnet jury opinions needed! Many thanks.

I've met people who have done it, although they've been in secure forensic mh units and their victims arnt around to tell the tale.

Of course it happens

TandB · 29/10/2012 20:56

I was sceptical earlier, but for various reasons I am coming down on the side of it being true.

But I am a little alarmed about the way the OP is revealing vast swathes of extremely personal information and accusing posters of effectively causing her psychological damage because they are, quite understandably, sceptical. As a previous poster said, it does seem a bit manipulative.

Or, to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, it seems like this whole situation may have already been extremely damaging to the OP's mental health and wellbeing.

This is apparently a story about someone else, not about the OP, so the very highly-charged responses seem a little off. I don't think this is a completely made-up story, but I certainly don't believe that it is exactly as it is being presented.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 29/10/2012 21:01

OP, I think you need to get off mumsnet for a while, love

Please don't disclose any more of your private life in attempt to make people who you will never meet "believe" you

it doesn't matter if we do or we don't, in the words of a very famous MN'er, we are just words on a screen

you say you have got what you needed from this thread, so take it and run

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 29/10/2012 21:06

Well, these things do happen, there are weird people in the world, why not to a MNer...
The OP has explained her overreactions are due to her being not "normal". And tbh, its not nice being called a troll when you are telling the truth....

oh god, I'm so gullible! Do not remind me that I believed it if the thread goes poof!

ScarahStratton · 29/10/2012 21:10

No, I did the get a grip too. And I'm getting rather bored of 'I'm not normal' being the reason behind everything not quite believable. But not quite as bored as I am of not being able to have an opinion that doesn't tally with what the OP wants to hear.

This is AIBU. Not fluffybunnywunnykinsland.

TandB · 29/10/2012 21:13

OP. Please don't send any more private messages offering to disclose personal information.

You have absolutely no idea who any of us on here are.

You said you were taking a step back from your friend's problems. I think that is probably a good idea. I have said I think this story is generally true - but the way you are dealing with this thread makes me extremely dubious about certain aspects.

MarianneM · 29/10/2012 21:14

This reminds me of another long-running series of threads. I wonder if they got too boring for the OP in the end. It's the victim mentality. And the self-obsession and attention seeking.

ScarahStratton · 29/10/2012 21:15

It's a ferry odd thread indeed.

MarianneM · 29/10/2012 21:15

And the somewhat improbable twists and turns in the tale.

apostropheuse · 29/10/2012 21:15

It sounds like a bit of a Halloween story to me.

ScarahStratton · 29/10/2012 21:18

Of course that should say 'very', not ferry.

ginhaghasaheadinherbag · 29/10/2012 21:19

I'm 'not normal'.

I still think cannibalism is very much off limits.

However my current posting name may appear to contradict this slightly.

ScarahStratton · 29/10/2012 21:23

I suppose it depends where your bag is, gin. If it's on your lap, and you're rummaging looking for something = normal. On the other hand, if it's tucked under your arm, and you're blindly stumbling down a street, I'd say that could be classed as abnormal.

ginhaghasaheadinherbag · 29/10/2012 21:25

a head Scarah. Not my head.

(Is a 'mwwwaaah haha' completely off limits?)

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 29/10/2012 21:26

That I agree with STratters, I missed you not being allowed your opinion by the OP though. Troll hunting = bad. Honest opinion = the whole point of AIBU, surely?

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 29/10/2012 21:27

Doh, replying to a post ten miles upthread! Ignore me! Its a full moon, it messes with my meds! Grin

ScarahStratton · 29/10/2012 21:29

No gin, go for it. I'll join you...

Bwahahahahahahaha haha

ginhaghasaheadinherbag · 29/10/2012 21:39
ScrambledSmegsEvilTwin · 29/10/2012 21:40

OP, I think you really need to hide this thread now. You've posted some very private information here and you're not going to get universal support and approval in response. You know this. Don't keep trying to fight your corner.

Morloth · 29/10/2012 21:41

Tell you what OP.

This 'friend' would not be allowed anywhere near me or my kids again.

Anyone controlled enough to consider cutting bits of herself to feed to her boyfriend is controlled enough to do anything for him.

Who the fuck needs that in their life?

ginhaghasaheadinherbag · 29/10/2012 21:41

I think smeg is right.

NigellasGhost · 29/10/2012 21:48

have not read whole thread but is he proposing chopsticks?

IvorHughJackolantern · 29/10/2012 21:49

Well this is a fucking weird thread.

rainbowinthesky · 29/10/2012 21:50

This thread is a good example as to why children shouldn't be on mumsnet!

LadyEvilBeagle · 29/10/2012 21:56

I reported it and it was allowed to continue.
And my posts were deleted.
So Op must be genuine, mustn't she?Confused
