Hello

I'm Mouse.

Welcome to the Brave Babes Bus - Gerald! Blame Silver for the name! Grin

We are a group of MNers who post about our relationship with alcohol and how drinking it, or not, has an effect on our day to day lives.

Come and meet the other Brave Babes, say hi, take a seat or just read.

Here are the threads so far

Ohh crispy bacon sandwich over here please. You may have hiccups Silver and you may need to hop on and off the bus a couple of times but you will get there.

Sooooo pleased you got home Venus and to a lovely thoughtful DH aswell.

My neighbour is suposed to be coming dor dinner with his 3 DD's tonight but I have been up for hours with my DD coughing so thought it best to warn him so am expecting him to cancel.

I did however manage not to drink last night

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 12:11

thurso

We have a non believer this year. And last. DD is almost 12 so Santa is a no go. I'm gutted and can't wait for Nemo to get to the stage where he will understand.

Nemo appears to have another cold, all this warm weather/cold weather we are having and going from indoors to -12 which is what we have right now!

Ha ha ha re 'is he really mine?'

Funny, my little brother who is now 25, seemed to grow up all of a sudden! He's a handsome chap!

Mouse I still get mine (20, and 17) to write a letter to Father Christmas, well more of a scrawled list really, but I still can't quite bear the materialism of just asking for stuff IYKWIM.

Zanyisntsantacanny · 20/12/2010 12:20

My 2 nieces (15 & 22) still put stockings out, they don't believe of course but love the presents Xmas Grin

Poor Nemo feeling poorly again Mouse

Zanyisntsantacanny · 20/12/2010 12:51

Well heard from neighbour and they are still coming for dinner. In a panic now about how to shop for the food (my car is still in the garage) and what to cook!

venusandchristmars · 20/12/2010 13:06

zany - well done for last night. You should be proud of yourself girl.

MIFLAW · 20/12/2010 13:28

"I sort of knew this would happen.

If you get on such an elated high it is bound to come crashing down at some point."

DON'T.

PROJECT.

Live life on life's terms - as and when it happens!

Hope today goes better - in the mean time, thanks for the reminder.

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 13:54

Hey MIFLAW

Lovely to see you. I hope Mrs MIFLAW is okay? Not long now?

Do you all remember Bianca?

She has sent Nemo some beautiful sheep skin boots. They are gorgeous!!

If you are out there Bianca - you are very very kind.

They are adorable, thank you so much Xmas Smile xx

Silverbaubleonatree · 20/12/2010 14:41

My DD also realises that Santa doesn't exist (10) which is very sad BUT at least I don't have to fek about with glasses of milk/mincepies/halfeaten carrots/footprints in fake snow etc

shit just realised I never got any mince pies in my on-line shop.......or booze (family all coming to mine on Thursday)....

And I now realise why the bill was so cheap - no booze - YEY [frin]

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 14:49

How are you feeling now Silver??

Loving the fact that you keep writing frin!! Xmas Grin

Glad I'm not alone!

Silverbaubleonatree · 20/12/2010 14:55

Had a nap - a bit better but disappointed with myself - should have gone to the meeting but not in the right frame of mind - actually it doesn't matter what frame of mind I should have just gone anyway but there is a brilliant one tomorrow night - it was my second and my light bulb moment so I'm really looking forward to that - shit just realised neices are coming to visit - this is part of the reason I was going to wait till after Christmas - too much going on with family - anyway hopefully they'll come in the afternoon - in fact just going to find out then if not I can go to a lunch time one........back in a sec [frin] x

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 15:27

My washing machine is out of action again.

Due to the temperature in the kitchen.

DH has just kindly informed me that the pipes in the new roof aren't lagged so have frozen.

My hairdryer isn't helping, nor haveing the oevn on full blast or a heater.

Oh.

My.

God.

Good afternoon,

Just had my first chance to read yesterday's posts - Hi Venus, glad to meet you (I joined the bus on Friday) and so happy that you are home safe and sound - your DH sounds like a superhero!

My boozy friends were round yesterday for lunch and almost fainted that I had diet coke, fruit tea and one glass of white wine! Last time I was drinking like this I was pregnant. In a debate with myself if I can be that person who is able to have one drink and stop - it is such early days and yesterday was such a massasive temptation - we have booze in every cupboard and under the stairs and in the garage! I must remember what a complete and utter nightmare I am after too much booze Blush

Hi Silver glad you feel better after nap and that you have a brilliant meeting tomorrow night to look forward to. My DS aged 8 is v doubtful about Father Christmas but is a sweet boy and is keeping up pretence for younger bro - also there is a part of him I think which daren't risk it in case he ends up with an empty stocking Xmas Grin

Mouse Glad date night was a success, I am going to try it Christmas Eve - great food, no TV and may even go all out and wear lippy and matching undies!

Hope you are all warm and safe.

Tes x

Christmaswithtesrocks · 20/12/2010 15:43

Mouse was writing my post as you posted yours - what a nightmare. I shall search internet for tips while you stay busy with hair dryer.

Christmaswithtesrocks · 20/12/2010 15:45

To prevent frozen pipes it is important to check where your stop tap is located and ensure that it is well insulated, along with other water pipes that are exposed to freezing temperatures...........
But if the supply pipe has already frozen then turn off the stop tap and open a tap in the kitchen or bathroom to drain down the system.

This will help prevent any damage when the thaw takes place.

You can thaw out the frozen pipe by applying a gentle heat, for example by using a hairdryer or a hot water bottle although this may take quite a time. If the weather is exceptionally cold you may wish to keep your heating on a low setting overnight.

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 15:50

Tes

I can highly recommend Date Night! And matching undies?? I didn't go that far!! Grin

I know where the stop tap is but I can't get to the pipes because there is no loft hatch.

I'm going to go and open the oven door. A bit more gas will be cheaper than replastering and replacing wet electricals etc......

I cannot believe that the pipes aren't lagged!!!!

I knew I should have overseen this bloody re-build.

Thanks Tes - you are a star xx

Silverbaubleonatree · 20/12/2010 15:54

Hey Tes - I used the 'if you don't believe in Santa then you won't get any presents will you ' line for the last two years - and it worked!!!

It is so sad different when they really know it's not true but hey that's life and growing up. I now like the fact that this year I have bought slightly more expensive stocking fillers but less of them - so that at least she will use/appreciate them. We still have stocking fillers from last year that are in their packaging - God we go to all this effort and expense and TBH my DD would be more than happy just with the DS game she really wants.

[frin] x

Silverbaubleonatree · 20/12/2010 15:59

Hey Mouse - don't know what to suggest - have you got a blow torch? - Tell DH to get off his feking arse and sort it out - anything that involves the risk of breaking a nail is mans work - JWN will be with me on this one [frin] x

Christmaswithtesrocks · 20/12/2010 16:08

The stories I have told about XMas robins carrying messages to Father XMas....how Father XMas gets into house.......how many reindeer are there so we need to get right number of carrots (9 by the way Xmas Grin......that he only comes when he knows you are fast asleep, he knows because he is magic! But it is all worth it really Xmas Smile especially when in a couple of years I won't have a hope of persuading them Xmas Sad

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 20/12/2010 16:15

Silver - He's been trying to heat the roof all day. There is no heat source in the kitchen as yet (we are waiting for Warm Front to install a radiator) other than the cooker.

I've just tried it again (the washer) and I can hear ice breaking.

Buggeration.

Tes - I daren't call them for fear of how loud they will laugh that the pipes, in a roof space, exposed to below freezing temperatures, are not fecking lagged.

But if they don't thaw soon, I will. Thank you for the number.

Silverbaubleonatree · 20/12/2010 16:45

My washer is now on. See what happens when you do it yourself?

Job done. Xmas Grin

Oh, and we have snow even though it says -10 in the kitchen!!

It was -12!!! Xmas Shock
