Everyone is invited! No booze of course, soft drinks and mocktails only!

I'm Mouse, hello. Smile

There are all kinds of drinkers on board the bus. Come and join the journey, whatever stage you are at, drinking, cutting down, wanting to stop or sober already.

Everyone is welcome to post here. Come say hi.

msgee - i think we are simply what we are!, im very 'girly' as is my dd, my sil is not at all girly yet my niece is the ulimate pink person, one of my other sil has 3 boys, the middle one we all think is proberbly gay, (he is only 6 but wants to be a ballerina!) he is more girly than my sil! Grin i think the important thing is to let a child express themselves, how ever that may be! (disclaimer!, whatever my nephew turns out to be he will be loved!)

hippychicky · 12/10/2010 16:24

What an odd afternoon on this thread!? I don't know how people have the energy to keep up with the 'debate'.

It all felt a bit overwhelming and intimidating at times and as others have said, could put people off.

Having said that, to not have the more 'to the point' comments would be a loss - I certainly find them helpful, as long as when someone responds and disagrees this is just accepted as another way of seeing things.

Without wanting to stir things up - just put the antlers down boys and continue posting - and remember it's important to see the lighter side of things as well.

I completely agree.

Actually, can I go further and propose we start a new thread, let's not have poor people who need to come here for the first time find it a vipers den, it's meant to be lovely and funny and supportive.

What do you think?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/10/2010 16:34

Hey All

Well it all got a bit surreal here this afternoon.

I have spent the afternoon at the paeditrician with DD (all is fine, just some skin problems), and been to the Post Office and ordered my currency for South Africa on Friday.

Woop woop.

Had a brief email convo with my Best friend today, and she said that she would drive on a night out we are going on, on Monday. I very quickly replied - no problem, I don't drink anymore, so I will drive. So another hurdle jumped, I am beginning to tell people, that I just don't drink anymore - feel strangely relieved. I am relieved that I am not worrying about making an arse of myself on Monday, coz normally I worry about it before hand and then again after the event. (how bloody stupid)

So I will arrive on Saturday, and I now don't have to explain, I have already made the statement.

DAy 10
I choose not to drink today!

Love to all esp fallen24

Group hugs all around please

jesuswhatnext · 12/10/2010 16:53

wasindie, i dispair at the lack of aspiration when it come to girls! Blush, when we looked at one high school for dd the kids had put up a freize to show what they wanted to become - NOT ONE girl aspired to a professional job, they all wanted to be hairdressers/nail technicians/models etc (not that there is anything wrong with being a hairdresser! Grin) what happened to those women who fought for us!, i do think our over sexualised society will set women back on the equality front, all we can do is bring our girls up to have a true sense of self worth.

helpmenow · 12/10/2010 16:57

Mmm chocolate eclairs, thank you vamp.

I am the mnetter who bumped into MIFLAW.

As a recovering alcoholic who has found AA to be the solution it is frustrating to hear AA criticised when no alternative is offered.
Reading other peoples' objections to AA is like listening to someone refuse to get out of a burning house because its raining outside or their favourite television programme is on.

And its all the more poignant because we did sit inside watching Eastenders or waiting for the rain to stop.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/10/2010 17:02

helpme thank you for the post, but I think we are trying to move on from 'voidgate' now on this thread

JWN and Wasindie, I agree. It's shocking. I can't bear that girls aspire to being models or hairdressers. Where are our doctors and nurses and lawyers?

MIFLAW · 12/10/2010 17:12

Being disagreed with I can handle.

being told that my sole aim in talking to other alcholics is to make myself feel superior and to make them feel shit is a little harder to take.

But, tbh, I've been here before. I am always happy to provide practical advice about not drinking - but, because I have made lots of mistakes already and come out the other side, I feel the need not to endorse others doing the same thing and, especially in my hands, that can easily cause offence.

Anyway, it's only a semi-flounce. I'm not leaving the thread - just leaving the front-running positions to others.

Trying hard to become a dignified elder statesman instead of a very public bleeding deacon ...

JaneS · 12/10/2010 17:12

Sorry everyone. I posted when I should have just walked away from the thread for a bit - hope you'll accept a big apology for my part in the bad atmosphere.

fallen, best of luck. It sounds as if you really are at the point when you know it has to be tackled head-on, and that's good. Smile

MIFLAW · 12/10/2010 17:13

Mouse

No offence taken.

Oh God! Everyone's falling out!
I'm not able to concentrate enough to work out what exactly what is going wrong.
Fallen, I have taken many a drunken train journey on my own. Be gentle on yourself.
I suffer horrendous hangovers.
I am still on the wagon.
Will try and read all this again properly when the small folks are in bed.
