The Brave Babes Carry On The Charabanc Trip - Leaving The Booze Behind!

1000 replies

Mouseface · 14/09/2010 11:33

Hello and welcome! Smile

This is thread number eight!

The Brave Babes are all at different stages of quitting the booze. Some have stopped, some are thinking about it and some are just cutting down.

They are full of support and wisdom for those of you wishing to climb aboard the Bus or Charabanc!! Grin

The Babes aren't an exclusive club, they never judge and they don't charge for advice either!

So, come meet them. I'm Mouse, by the way, and I've been sober since August 2nd 2010, something I would never have even considered without the support of these threads.

Here are the first seven threads, if you want a bit of history.

MIFLAW · 15/09/2010 11:32

Just followed link to Living sober book.

I may be wrong - it's been a few years since I bought my copy - but I think it is about half that price from an AA meeting (because AA is non-profit.)

RedMoomin · 15/09/2010 11:37

MIFLAW you made it! How are things with you? How are MsMIFLAW, little MIFLAW and MIFLAW-to-be??

MIFLAW · 15/09/2010 11:44

La famille MIFLAW are all well, thank you.

However, the MIFLAW kitchen floor is floode because the MIFLAW dishwasher packed in this morning, hence my late arrival.

Mouseface · 15/09/2010 11:50

Oh dear MIFLAW

That is almost as bad as the Mouse washer dying and very kindly emptying it's soapy water all over the new concrete floor that had been laid!

Nightmare.

Bad news re kitchen floor - but at least I am not lying across it, shitfaced.

Mouseface · 15/09/2010 12:30

New floor?

OP posts:
MIFLAW · 15/09/2010 12:36

Hell, no, hope not.

I once woke up on my (then) girlfriend's kitchen floor. What woke me was the noise of her mother coming downstairs to use the toilet. She collapsed - naked - behind the stereo speakers en route and I had to extricate her while trying not to touch her tits.

Good times.

Mouseface · 15/09/2010 12:45

I shouldn't laugh at that but.....Grin

venusandmars · 15/09/2010 14:08

I am sitting in room full of people who have half an hour to prepare a presentation. Luckily they cannot see what I am looking at on my pc as I sit at the front of the room. However they did see me laughing at MIFLAW's (notquite)MIL story.

MIFLAW - are you not the dishwasher?? Ha! ha!

venusandmars · 15/09/2010 14:10

Hi Ginger, you are doing great. It is so much the right thing to do today. In fact it's such a great idea that I think I will join you.

TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKIING Grin

gingerwig · 15/09/2010 14:22

MIFLAW · 15/09/2010 14:30

Gingerwigs

"I cant get off the sofa"

Phone NHS Direct, it sounds serious.

"When wil my head and legs stop aching??"

when you stop thinking about your head and legs aching. Get out and do something.

gingerwig - Hello Smile

MIFLAW is the Brave Babe with the size 11 steel caps on.

He talks sense and pulls no punches so listen to him and take note.

He has been sober for more than 7 years IIRC.

Completely endorse SAF's suggestion btw. But, honestly, the sad truth is, you have a few days of feeling shit (though it's better each day and won't, at a guess, last more than 5 days in total) and, if you are going to let it control your life, you are going to be housebound.

Out of interest, did you put everything on hold for a hangover, or did you drink a strong coffee and get on with it?

Hey Charabanc Chicks

Mouse - I tried to e- mail you but had to set up a hotmail address as not sure who could have access to my work e-mails - don't know if you got it or not.

JWN, getting, Red and all of you thanks for all your kind messages and support and I'll keep this as brief as I can but here is my story. I hope it might help others and make things a bit clearer for me.

Always been a heavy drinker, been in residential de-tox (nhs), tried on my own, had home de-tox, the list goes on.......

Anyway this time - went to see GP who referred me to Community Alcohol Team. Did home detox starting on 17th May. Stayed sober for three weeks and then fell into the classic 'permissive behavoiur' trap (which they warned me about!) As in "look at me I've done so well, I deserve a glass of wine....." Before you can blink back to square one ( between 1 and 2 bottles white wine a night).

Three weeks later go back to GP - tell him what happened and he gave me librium again to home de-tox. Sign off work sick with depression (true - clinically diagnosed) - do de-tox and this time and stay sober for five weeks........

I'm actually gonna post this bit now cos I lost a long message last night and DD in and out and wants her tea.

To Be Continued........Wink

Silver66 · 15/09/2010 17:30

within that five weeks I managed a week in holiday cottage with mother, sisters and our various off-spring - all grown ups heavy drinkers and i didn't touch a drop - just sat and watched them getting bladdered - wine as soon as home from the beach - bed for me at 9ish every night - and do you know what felt so fantastic about it - going crabbing in rock pools with DD and REMEMBERING every detail - actually the best hoilday I've had in years - I remember all the details.......

anyway I digress

So I was doing great - and this time I stopped I realised I can NEVER drink again - and that somehow made it so much easier - no mental gymnastics or debate about when I could drink again - just cut and dried - I DO NOT DRINK. Simple. End of. no mental torture about cutting down or controlling anything. It was just over.

Posting now in case I lose message again.......
