I mean, if I had a cock, this programme would make me want to slam it in the door.

Mitch Benn is very clever but just a little bit irritating, IMO. I once saw him getting punched on stage by an irate member of the audience who he'd pushed a little bit too far. I think everyone was secretly quite pleased.

I do sing the Lembit Opik song every time I see him on telly though (Opik, not Benn, obv).

nooooo - they mustn't make more ISIHACs- can't they just run repeats? 30 years worth - no one is going to get bored.

oggsfrog · 06/09/2008 21:07

I would Habibbu, they were bad enough the first time

I used to LOVE Marcus Brigstocke's Giles Wemmbley-Hogg.

Away with you, oggsfrog.

Habbibu radio 7 have all the ISIHAC repeats and it is a point of interest to sad baps like me that the wonderful and sadly missed Humph got gradually less posh in his speech and more what like us common folk is as the years went by. CAS must sleep with someone very high up at the beeb perhaps with assistance fromthe contents of a roadside stall

I absolutely LOVE Count Arthur Strong. And I'm not afraid to say it.

I love the use of language.

agreed - it was truly dreadful but not as bad as the alledged comedy about an arms dealer. I think was the worse thing I had ever heard.

Just had to pop in to say that I can't bear, loathe and detest Count Arthur Strong.

Phew. Feel better now for sharing.

This arms dealer thing is obviously really, really bad. I shall have to seek it out so that I can feel outraged.

caritas, what do you mean about roadside stalls? I'm thinking street food and/or five red roses for a tenner, but I'm not sure either would get you very far at Broadcasting House (or wherever the seat of R4 power is these days - the Queens Park branch of Waitrose, perhaps?)

I've never listened to the "satirical" arms dealer thing, but it drew a lot of flak on feedback last couple of times that was on & from the extracts I heard it was painfully unfunny (and tried too hard as well, horrible combination)

Ah - a Radio thread *sigh - feels at home

Just had to say - I loathe Count Arther Strong - just not funny at all - dire.

I'm an Ed Reardon kinda gal - his pompous life with Elgar in a flat in Berkhamsted, dining off his one episode of Tenko

As for the afternoon plays....don't get me started..just dreadful.

HIJACK!

JEANJEANNIE I just wonbdered how old your dd is now and if she is pointing yet. How did the paed appointment go.

Report
jeanjeannie · 10/09/2008 20:47

Ooooo - hands up - nappyaddict - you caught me

Paed appoint went really well She started pointing to things in books (21 months) and now that's moved onto pointing at things she's interested in. Paed said pointing was a tiny marker within a whole framework of other traits - and he thought there were none. Now I've just got DD2 (3 mths) to worry about

Thanks for asking - hope you and DS are good

meanwhile....back on Radio 4.....!!

Report
nappyaddict · 10/09/2008 21:34

yep we are fine thanks. if you think about it she was prem so she was probably pointing around the normal time for her corrected age.

god - it's back and twice as lame. How did it get another series?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had Radio4 on whilst making the bed (late, I know) and after a fascinating programme about Libya, on came Arthur and some dreadful plot about a cafe and a zinc bucket.

I wanted to put the bucket over his head and hit it repeatedly until he SHUT UP!!

.....And breathe......

Report
Lilymaid · 07/01/2009 12:24

God that was awful - had left radio on in kitchen and wondered what all the racket was. Why does R4 still do terrifically unfunny comedy with joke northerners? It sounded like something out of the 1950s.

DaveFromTheBrewery · 07/01/2009 12:30

Yup, me too. Changed over to a good programme on Cuban music on World Service. Phew.

Report
Aitch · 07/01/2009 12:38

but the audience seems to find it HILARIOUS... it's completely mystifying. teeny dd2 cried until i switched it over. [everyone's a critic]

Just so deeply unfunny - amazed it got another series. Such a lame story, it's like a old silent movie that someone has decided to put words to. Oh God, I hope it never makes it to the telly!

CAS is dire. He is the alter-ego of a young comedian (can't remember his name), much like Al Murray the pub landlord, so I don't know if it's a double bluff ie it's supposed to be crap

Anyway Miranda Sawyer loves it which me

Haven't read all this thread and haven't listened to the prog but the piece they played on Pick of the Week was really unfunny. The piece by Mickey Flanagan on class was very funny.

I think Al Murray can be very funny - saw him live once and he was v good.
