I mean, if I had a cock, this programme would make me want to slam it in the door.

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 06/09/2008 17:43

Haven't time to read thread now but marking so I can come back later.

I hate ISIHAC

I love Stephen Fry - Bleak Expectations - Count Arthur Strong - Fags - Mags and Bags - Clare in the Community - Ed Reardon's Week - the one with David Mitchell - The News Quiz - Just a Minute

pigleto · 06/09/2008 17:46

that shuttleworths thing. definately cock in the door time.

pigleto · 06/09/2008 17:51

I am sure that Stephen Fry will not be too badly hurt by the fact that I don't like his act. He is probably, personally, a lovely man and I am very sorry that he has a bipolar disorder. He did cry a lot on that "who do you think you are" program but then genocide is very upsetting. He makes me cringe rather than laugh most of the time though and I try to avoid programs containing his "clevering" around. I think it may be my anti toff prejudice colouring my judgement when I think about it. I will try to be more tolerant of the bloke in future.

Hassled · 06/09/2008 17:53

Oh thank God - I have a very good friend who thinks it's the greatest thing on radio ever and I JUST CAN'T STAND IT. I am not alone. Phew!

noolia · 06/09/2008 18:00

Oh good, I thought there was something that i'd missed with CAS, but now realise that it really is tosh. Also Shuttleworths - I don't understand how they are in anyway funny.
Really like The News Quiz, The Now Show, Jeremy Hardy, Just a minute and Andy Hamilton stuff.

Quite excited to have a radio area! [must get out more emoticon]

retiredgoth · 06/09/2008 18:04

....sadly, it seems that any decent comedy/panel shows on Radio 4 need to be presented by octogenarians.

Long live Mr Parsons.

The Now Show is bearable, but each show seems to have about 10 minutes of material thinly stretched...

...and as for afternoon plays.

Sigh.

....there appears to be some kind of quota system in which "Issues" are dealt with by these piles of steaming shite dramas.

...Immigration. Tick.

...Abortion. Tick.

...Adoption. Tick.

...and so on. And on. And on...

In fact, the main reason for continuing to listen to Radio 4 (and for referring to it as "The Home Service" on "the wireless") is part of my sad and woefully inadequate attempt to become middle class.

...no amount of sea bass, Tuscan holidays, or self conscious trips to Waitrose can make my twins call their evening meal "dinner" instead of "tea", yet still I persist.

Now, time to catch up with The Archers podcast...

retiredgoth · 06/09/2008 18:11

...and as for the door slamming, I had a go but am not a good enough shot to hit such a small target.

niceglasses · 06/09/2008 18:17

Oh God, I love Count Arthur. I think its fab!

Blandmum · 06/09/2008 18:18

I started a thread about this not that long ago.

What an utter crock of shite.

radio 4 should be ashamed to put it on the air

policywonk · 06/09/2008 18:42

I am very impressed by the insanely brave CAS fans who are prepared to come on this thread and say they like it

LOL at pigleto 'genocide is very upsetting'

Also at retiredgoth (I'm sorry about your wife, but your profile is funny!) R4 afternoon plays plumb new depths of awfulness. And I too sometimes use R4 to bolster my I-could-have-an-Aga-if-I-wanted credentials.

Haven't read whole thread but Clare in the Community is fab (spin-off from Guardian cartoon strip?) and so is that gorgeous one on Thursdays about the Asian corner shop in Scotland.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2008 18:45

Fags, Mags & Bags, thank you, oggsfrog

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 18:47

Oh no - hate Clare in the Community. oggsfrog wins the prize for braveness by stating openly that she hates ISIHAC - have never heard such heresy!

Blandmum · 06/09/2008 18:48

that there are people who like CAS, let alone like it and are brave enough to admit to the aberation

I just don't find it funny at all

I do like tha Now show. the chap who does the music, (who did the wonderful, 'Let's have a minutes noise for John' in memory of the great John Peel) is a shortish fattish, blond. And he doesn't sound like that at all But sooooooooooooooooooooo clever I really rather fancy him in a 'god aren't you witty' sorta way

WendyWeber · 06/09/2008 18:49

We listened to Armando's prog in the car on the way to Ireland on Saturday 2 weeks ago - not very good at all, had that ghastly Dave Gorman in it (think it was him?) & then we missed the ferry (that wasn't their fault though I must concede)

Then again on the way back last week, with lovely Dara & David Mitchell, & we didn't miss the ferry so that was obviously an infinitely better programme

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 18:50

MB - Mitch Benn (for it is he) has a splendid Enimem parody called "My Name in MacBeth" - just fab.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2008 18:50

Mitch Benn, MB?

Habbibu · 06/09/2008 18:51

oh, love Armando Iannucci - he has a spectacular sense of the absurd, and a brilliant Dalek impression.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2008 18:52

Incidentally DH was convinced the presenter is called Amanda Ianucci & was confused for quite a long time - he kept saying "but it's a bloke!" & none of us knew who he meant so didn't explain.

Blandmum · 06/09/2008 18:53

Mitch Benn. That is the chap!

fantastic, love him to bits and saw him in the Edinburge Fringe last year and went all silly and 'fan' like and told him hpow great I thought he was

at the memory

policywonk · 06/09/2008 18:53

Mitch Benn, yes I like him. But then I have a weakness for comedy songs.

Yes Habb, oggs is lucky to get away with her life for that one

OP posts:
Habbibu · 06/09/2008 19:58

Have been racking my brains trying to remember a favourite Mitch Benn song, and I have - it's the one about Lembit Opik. Anyone else remember it? Just fab.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2008 20:05

I may just have to murder James Blunt

LIke that one

mymblemummy · 06/09/2008 20:41

We love Count Arthur Strong in our house. And Old Harry's Game, the News Quiz, I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue and Just a Minute.

It's the bloody miserable plays I hate. There was one the other night about a small child disappearing on a holiday and returning many years later. It turned out that he was an imposter, and the father had disliked his child so much he stood by as a completely strange woman walked off with him. Bah!

oggsfrog · 06/09/2008 20:42

I'm really liking Mark Watson Makes the World Substantially Better on Wednesdays.

Jeremy Hardy was on Loose Ends earlier and it sounds like they'll be making more ISIHACs , but haven't decided whether to have one regular presenter or different ones. Jeremy said he'd like Dame Judi Dench .
