I mean, if I had a cock, this programme would make me want to slam it in the door.

Oh please do,Aitch,I'm very hard to please radio comedy wise, but that one used to make me laugh out loud.It is the only radio comedy Ive ever liked and I've listened to R4 at work every day for 8 years now!

I too tried again following reading this thread a few months ago. It was just awful. Not even a hint of a titter at any of it. And i generally love silly words (in a Stanley Unwin kind of way) and stuff but it really is buttock clenchingly dreadful. Back to the News Quiz for me.....

Well,I tried again today.I forced, myself to listen to a whole episode,to see if I had misjudged it.

The verdict is-no,it is still shitey mcshite.

CAS came on this morning and I thought of this thread.

I can listen to pretty much anything else on R4 in a background noise kind of way (even gardener's question time which bores me to death), but not CAS. I have re-tune the radio to something (anything) else.

Am listening to CAS at the mo as I have R4 on. God, it. Is. Dire.

cas is crap..al murray on other hand is very funny - I've not seen anyone as quick with comments to audience and as amusing

Report

yes it is crap

Gosh, I seem to be the only person (other than DP) who finds Count Arthur Strong funny. There must be something wrong with me .

I mean, it's not appointment listening or anything, but if I fancy something to amuse me whilst pottering, I'll play it on 'listen again'. It's not as good as Fabulous though, which I really enjoyed, and I hope comes back soon.

OOOHHHH,don't get me started on this.I really, really hate it and can't believe it's on again.Dreadful stuff and deeply unfunny.Hut 39 wasn't much better. In fact the only radio comedy I found remotely amusing was the one about the corner shop.

Not read all this thread, and just seen the title. But I hate CAS. He's never been funny and I cannot understand why he has been on for so long. Utter crap IMO.

I think Al can also be very unfunny - from what little I saw of him Jools Holland's Hootenanny show. Really puzzled why CAS got on Pick of the Week at all - are they trying to boost listener figures in some strange way?

Didn't mean to imply that Al Murray was also crap, just that it was the same kind of alter-ego comedy. Or 'comedy' in CAS's case...

Haven't read all this thread and haven't listened to the prog but the piece they played on Pick of the Week was really unfunny. The piece by Mickey Flanagan on class was very funny.

I think Al Murray can be very funny - saw him live once and he was v good.

CAS is dire. He is the alter-ego of a young comedian (can't remember his name), much like Al Murray the pub landlord, so I don't know if it's a double bluff ie it's supposed to be crap

Anyway Miranda Sawyer loves it which me

Just so deeply unfunny - amazed it got another series. Such a lame story, it's like a old silent movie that someone has decided to put words to. Oh God, I hope it never makes it to the telly!

God that was awful - had left radio on in kitchen and wondered what all the racket was. Why does R4 still do terrifically unfunny comedy with joke northerners? It sounded like something out of the 1950s.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had Radio4 on whilst making the bed (late, I know) and after a fascinating programme about Libya, on came Arthur and some dreadful plot about a cafe and a zinc bucket.

I wanted to put the bucket over his head and hit it repeatedly until he SHUT UP!!

.....And breathe......

god - it's back and twice as lame. How did it get another series?
