Brian has forgotten he was going to buy a house, so continues to live in a shoebox in the village next to Kirsty who still hates him

And you have forgotten that shortly after Jenny croaked Brian, supremely unbothered by the strange rusty stains in the kitchen grouting, moved into Blossom Hill Cottage.

They really have painted themselves into a corner. Either it continues with a large cast of improbably spry septuagenarians and octogenarians or the grim reaper will be working overtime for the foreseeable. Peggy and Jill aside, Lilian, Justin, Jim, Brian, Robert and (please, please) Lynda are all squarely in the Death Zone. Clarrie is the sort of woman who ignores a niggle and worsening symptoms for ages, falls ill with something else, gets diagnosed with stage IV cancer and is dead within a couple of months. (Lurking scripties, help yourselves!)
And Neil is obviously on his way out.

TottersBlankly · 24/01/2025 13:01

It’s astonishing, isn’t it, that with so many unresolved issues waiting to be developed, they thought we’d want to spend Christmas and New Year hearing from a sulky stranger - and Mick. Angry

FondantFancyAnyone · 24/01/2025 14:32

Brian lives in Bloody Hell Cottage, not next door to Kirsty.
Josh has a girlfriend. Ben fancies Zainab.

The characters seem strangely uninterested in dating. The only courting couples I can think of are Lizzie and Vince and Jill and Leonard.

Madcats · 24/01/2025 14:33

I'd forgotten that Brian had moved. So are the Kemps back in Willow Cottage? If not, maybe Helen could have 3 bed Willow Farm and Kirsty could move into 2 bed(?) Willow Cottage.

There seems to be an abundance of empty homes in Ambridge.

Brian and Miranda, Kate and Jakob, Pip and Stella, Brad and Mia (not together now, of course), Denise and Alistair. Paul had a relationship that went wrong not too long ago (with a silent character). Kirsty and Jakob's brother, although that was strictly what I believe is known as a FWB arrangement.

No doubt all snapped up by affluent commuters as soon as they're advertised.

I'm very keen on the idea that Vince might buy Home Farm. Brian would hate it, unfortunately, but it needs to be brought back into play.

FondantFancyAnyone · 24/01/2025 15:09

I wasn't counting Kate & Jakob, Pip & Stella, and Denistair as they are pretty much established couples. Brian & Miranda seem established too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/01/2025 15:17

Jill and Leonard have been an item for ages and ages, and so have Elizabeth and Vince. Brian and Miranda took up together after Jennifer's death, which is two years ago this week. Can't remember exactly how long it's been - 18 months at most, surely. I can't see what the distinction is you're trying to make.

OP posts:
FondantFancyAnyone · 24/01/2025 20:55

That they are couples who are more girlfriend-boyfriend than DPs/life partners.
It doesn't matter other than we haven't heard much of anyone youngish get together since Brad and Mere, whereas I'd expect the likes of Frilly, Joshnben, Chels, Brad, ... to be actively dating.

It's been a very long week at work (with me likely to cause the project to miss the deadline, but I just about got it done). It was a bit unnerving to see things flying round with 'This will not go out unless @Fondant's bit is finished'.
Truth was, most of it was done, just not signed off.

Jill Archer has a better social life than I do. 😢

FondantFancyAnyone · 24/01/2025 21:08

Not that my week is remotely interesting to anyone other than me, but I get a lot more done if I don't look at MN. Will listen to tonight's TA tomorrow. Bet I missed a cracker.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/01/2025 21:18

No, not really.

FondantFancyAnyone · 25/01/2025 09:13

Not sure what that was in reply to but it made me chuckle.Grin. Ooh, can I wait until this afternoon? Maybe I could take it as an opportunity to give up The Archers. Hmm? It does seem barely recognisable these days.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/01/2025 12:24

Spoiler time again. Check out Valentine's Day - 'a sad goodbye'. Jill or Peggy? Sad Lawrence appears in the cast list for a second week. Hmm.

Berwick Kaler as himself <<< well-known Pantomime Dame, apparently

Radio Times Ambridge Diary January 26th-31st
Joy is under increasing pressure as the panto trip hangs in the balance, but it proves a welcome distraction from her home situation where she and Mick are treading on eggshells around each other. A gauntlet is thrown down to Lynda and a challenging guest arrives at Ambridge Hall - will pride come before a fall for the village's MBE? Vince appears intent on sabotage and one family gets a surprise in the form of a mysterious envelope.

Total TV Guide Sun 26th to Fri 31st
The hotly anticipated trip to the Felpersham Panto looms, but for Joy it looks like a case of “Oh no it isn’t!’ going to happen, with things not well between her and Mick. Never the most altruistic of menfolk, will he ever get to the bottom of what’s troubling his girlfriend? Later in the week, he also comes under scrutiny from Jazzer as he conducts a furtive negotiation. Over at Ambridge Hall, arch snob Lynda faces a tricky guest and a challenging situation, Tracy and Susan give each other the (fashion-related) cold shoulder, and Tony weighs in with some advice. Elsewhere, Vince is in a very destructive frame of mind, Jill’s dressing gown almost becomes a character in the drama, and Leonard has a big job on his hands.

2.2 A bombshell is dropped on Harrison

Please let it contain an actual bomb.

FondantFancyAnyone · 25/01/2025 14:16

A quick look at my 'I'm watching' page and I thought I'll resist, but I am grateful for the spoilers.
The bombshell will be Fallon telling him it's over.

Oh, damn. I succumbed. Ugh! The thought of Vince in bed. Bleurgh! Bleurgh!

Other than Jakob, I can't think of any sexy men in Ambridge. Chris might be but in-love-with-the-ex isn't.

FondantFancyAnyone · 27/01/2025 07:57

Tracy as Cinderella

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/01/2025 12:43

Yeah; she's only fifty this year, the perfect age to play an adolescent.

FondantFancyAnyone · 27/01/2025 13:36

Grin but it's panto and men dress as women and cows, and women dress as prince charming. I might stop listening because of all the gritty realism. (Oh no you won't..)

Madcats · 27/01/2025 14:44

If there is just one panto dame listed in the cast list, will he be playing all 3 parts (and possibly the mother)?

They did Cinderella once before:
https://ambridgereporter.org.uk/Village_Entertainments.html

"1996: Cinderella,
with Larry Lovell directing and Lynda being a pest throughout, then arriving late for the performance so that there were two Fairy Godmothers on stage because Baron Hardup (Larry) doubled to cover her absence. Debbie was Principal Boy and Nelson Gabriel was one of the Ugly Sisters, in four-inch-heeled bright red shoes which gave Julia quite the wrong idea about him when she came across them in his house. Hayley played Cinders. It was a great success".

TherapistInATabard · 28/01/2025 07:57

I note that the cast list this week is shorter than usual. The Very Famous Dame must have cost a lot 🤨

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/01/2025 07:59

I think I'll give it a miss for the rest of this week.

FondantFancyAnyone · 30/01/2025 08:54

I'm quite enjoying this week. Smile

MollyButton · 30/01/2025 11:49

I'm enjoying it too, and even laughed at last nights.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2025 13:54

It's a reasonably funny "Play for the Day" – but is it really The Archers?

MollyButton · 30/01/2025 18:10

I'd rather have one week of Panto than an equally unrealistic month or two. (Good Pantos usually take up to 6 months or more.)
