Radio Times Ambridge Diary 5-10 January
Leonard is knocked sideways by some emotional news and all does not go well when he faces a difficult day with the Brookfield family standing by his side. Harrison has to fight to keep his emotions in check when he faces a challenging callout, but then receives a surprising offer from his superior. Lily takes matters into her own hands when Brad tells her he's struggling, Jolene makes a rash decision at The Bull, and Khalil's mouth runs away with him.

12th January – 17th January 2025
12.1 Justin faces a dilemma, and plans forge ahead for Ruth.
13.1 Joy isn’t herself at all, and Helen considers her options.

When did not knowing anything about something stop people on MN having an opinion? I listen regularly - it's been part of the evening ritual for most of my life and there's a good chance that I heard the first episode in utero - but much of it goes straight from short-term memory into the mental "Deleted" folder, where it belongs!

There are some strange people on MN. They post nonsense then get all uppity when you point out that they've posted something that makes no sense.

This week's offerings so far belong in the deleted folder, unless I missed some important signals.

Is avian flu impervious to heat? Because I assume the beef was cooked after he put it into the baking try with his (washed) bare hands.

Why does it need to be avian flu anyway? The symptoms sound as much like gastroenteritis as anything else, to me. I suppose that isn't cutting edge enough for a modern, up-to-the-minute programme like TA.

But there's a big difference between having an opinion and arguing over whether Tom or Tash is the most irritating part of that couple (it's Tom ), and hating/being down on everything and everyone so that it spoils the enjoyment of others.

I'm not saying you are doing that though.

I guess the eventual hospital vigil could be for an elderly character who isn’t in that week’s cast?

Isn't Shula coming back briefly? Maybe she catches whatever germs are lurking in the clearly-uncleaned bathroom...

OW!!! ow ow ow. This was described as a roast. I hope they had a tube of Burn-eeze ready.

(He did actively point out that he had washed his hands, so not unwashed.)

Point taken about the working with poultry, but surely as someone who works with poultry he would be even more aware than the run-of-the-mill Mumsnet hypochondriacs about the risk of infection from them? And be watching like a hawk for the first signs of the disease wiping out his livelihood?

Worry not, I have been keeping an eye on this. The pace on this thread is usually fairly slow so I won't start a new one just yet unless everybody gets uncharacteristically chatty today.

Meanwhile, the BBC has (to my surprise) put up a few more teasers. This time I suspect it's deliberate that Friday 9/1 has no teaser and there is no cast list for this week. I suppose we can deduce who's not dead, at least.

Maybe George will accidentally kill Clarrie. That ought to provide enough melodrama potential for even the most exacting editorial team.

@BrightYellowDaffodil , 'hating/being down on everything and everyone so that it spoils the enjoyment of others.' This. I don't find Tom or Tash annoying. They have character traits I might find annoying if they were real people.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , he might not have washed them properly, and the meat might not have been very hot.

Those teasers are a bit depressing, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - no assurance regarding either Brad or George. I really don’t want to start NY with one of them gone.

If George were gone, my grief would be containable.

Perhaps the vigil at the hospital will be at the vet's, patient perhaps a poorly stick insect? I feel it's best to manage my expectations. I was mightily pissed off when poor old Nigel was chucked off the roof. There were so many more deserving candidates! We can't expect a cheery New Year every year such as the one when David lay in a ditch all night and nearly died.

Josh's heartbreak - we were thinking of Nina and Esme, but maybe it is avian flu and his flock has to be destroyed?

I would certainly be heartbroken if my chickens (I don’t have any!) were culled - guess it depends whether that or breaking up with Nina is more likely to drive Josh into Esme’s arms?

That shouldn’t have put me in mind of vagina dentata, but it did.

DH suggests that Clarrie put into a coma by George would provide even more melodrama.

Loving these IT support desk stories! At Mr Gasp's place of work for many years they had a printout of an email they had received taped to the wall in a part of the IT office which service users did not generally visit. It went something like this:
Hi, can you help me? I can't send emails.

The converse to this was the email I received from IT telling me off for leaving an automated out of office message in place at a time when I was, er, out of the office.
