Radio Times Ambridge Diary 5-10 January
Leonard is knocked sideways by some emotional news and all does not go well when he faces a difficult day with the Brookfield family standing by his side. Harrison has to fight to keep his emotions in check when he faces a challenging callout, but then receives a surprising offer from his superior. Lily takes matters into her own hands when Brad tells her he's struggling, Jolene makes a rash decision at The Bull, and Khalil's mouth runs away with him.

12th January – 17th January 2025

The Archer family badly needs a cull. If I could be in charge of scriptwriting for just a week, I'd shove most of Peggy's descendents into a couple of charabancs for a jolly communal trip to Scotland and wipe the lot of them out in a freak accident. Brian and Miranda would survive, as would Jakob, all three having refused to travel by coach. And Kate might travel with Jakob, just to ensure he actually went ... but if she didn't, well she'd be wiped out too.

Something like that would be a probate solicitor's dream!

I didn't see Sherlock but I've just watched some trailers, and there is a bit of similarity to Pip's voice in the Carly actor's voice.
Sherlock looks like something I would have avoided watching - can't stand MF or his then wife, didn't like the Molly actor, love Una Stubbs and BC.

For some reason, I took an irrational dislike to the real life mother of the Josh actor decades ago, and can't seem to get over it. According to the podcast she's not a listener, but I don't hold that against her.
It's not just these few actors, there are many of them.

I watched Sherlock and so much of it was so awkward to watch because it really wasn’t as clever as they thought it was!!!

We liked Sherlock, but it went on far too long, as popular series often do. John Cleese and Connie Booth got it spot on with Fawlty Towers. Two series, utterly brilliant in every particular, refuse all requests to do more.

And now back to The Archers, talking of popular series which have run for a long, long time ...

Sorry for going off on a tangent. It's the funeral today isn't it.

I 'get' the national treasure tag, just don't like her. I think it's because someone said 'Oh! it's ...' when Acorn Antiques was on. I said it was irrational.

I’m wondering if the “contemporary drama week” means we will hear from the Scottish castle. I also wonder if Phoebe, Kate and Jacob will be there - maybe Phoebe has to be hospitalised or something?

Alan's bad news for the shop is going to be that they can't use the church any more after the funeral incident, isn't it? But it sounds as if Joy is going to resolve everything, hooray!

Annoyingly, the week after next is still all placeholders. But we have the week after that, so here goes.

Will love through the prison bars survive life on the outside? While George struggles to be accepted back into Ambridge, the hope that he and Amber will become Borsetshire’s Bonnie and Clyde could be fading, thanks to George trying to force a reconciliation between Amber and her parents, which backfires. Ruth thinks she may have stumbled on a terrible secret after Leonard receives a phone call, and the future of the village shop is in doubt yet again.

He doesn't like cake?

I think it will be Ruth overhearing something and getting the wrong end of the stick. The bombshell will be that he's off to Singapore or he hates flapjacks.

Avian flu at the re-wilding and for Josh's chickens?

Amber will make a move on Brad.

24 Nov Suspicions rise for Amber, and Ruth ends up with egg on her face.

Ruth will probably assume that Esme has designs on Dayveed (or vice versa) whereas in reality Josh is after Esme as a means of escape.

And will take Ruth ages to understand because she won’t be able to get her head around someone liking Josh

i guess it will start with a business relationship where he will bring his chickens to her land and be able to expand that business but the price is he manages the farm

Maybe Leonard goes to help Esme and falls in love. Maybe David will have a limerence. Josh is already smitten.
The three men will fight for her hand but she will be whisked off into the sunset by Freddie.

"May I bring my chickens to your land?" sounds really quite suggestive, or perhaps like a marriage proposal in an isolated culture.

There isn't anyone from the Traitors Holiday in the cast list for the week after the CDIARS week.

Aha! If it really is Amber’s dad - and there’s an eventual reconciliation - maybe her well off family can find a job for George? They sell cars I think?

And a fondness for flash cars is what led him into trouble in the first place - so he’d probably jump at the chance.

I’m sure he’s legally allowed to use a mop and a bucket of soapy water? Sweep forecourts, clear litter, open and close the building?

It’s mere speculation, anyway. Just the newest possibility alongside Meadow Farm, the charging station, All Of Borchester …

Of course, on the other hand, now that reality has landed, Amber may find losing George a fair price to pay for being re-absorbed into the bosom of her family.
