I didn't see it either.

Gonners · 01/11/2025 20:28

Broadchurch is still available on ITVX and I'd strongly recommend it, if you don't mind "more than a bit harrowing".

I think Matthew Gravelle is pretty enough that the hair loss is not an issue!

Bruisername · 01/11/2025 20:33

I can’t bear David tennant tbh and I’m a bit sick of Olivia Coleman!

FondantFancyAnyone · 01/11/2025 20:37

Of course he is, but he had a more youthful look then.

@Bruisername , that was exactly what I thought, plus it has another actor who I don't want to watch or hear in it.

Bruisername · 01/11/2025 20:40

Oooh - who? I only really know those two are in it because they’re all over the ads

Gonners · 01/11/2025 20:45

Yes, I have the David Tennant ick too, but Broadchurch (2013) predated both that and the ubiquity of Olivia Coleman. 😀

FondantFancyAnyone · 01/11/2025 20:54

It's a northern actor who has been in many things, and I think it's one of those actors who uses terms like cis-woman on Wimmin Sour, whilst I shout F off you hypocrite! at the radio.
Must have been a while ago because I've not listened for years.

Bruisername · 01/11/2025 21:16

I don’t know who you mean despite a few having sprung to mind!!

Best to ignore them, really. I have rarely listened to Woman's Hour, which I think of as something my mother (born 1925) used to listen to. 😆

FondantFancyAnyone · 02/11/2025 14:01

@Bruisername , I might come a cropper if I explained.

@Gonners , I don't. I didn't like JM on it. After she left, it's changed and I caught one episode and the presenter seemed simpering. Enough!

Bruisername · 02/11/2025 14:07

your description could have been David tennant!

I don’t listen to WH anymore as a long time when listen it’s very reductive

i dont like the presenters much either

FondantFancyAnyone · 02/11/2025 14:35

He's Scottish not northern.Smile
The northern actor seems fine, and is probably really nice, but it annoyed me.
I think the actor always plays downtrodden, middle-aged northerners, but I might be wrong.
The WH presenters might be fine, but they struck me as the sort who'd say something like 'Good morning Nobel-prize winner - ooh those are gorgeous shoes!' or something

Bruisername · 02/11/2025 14:41

Oh they totally do - I’ve heard them a few times and they always use stereotypes. It’s so cringe

yeah a bit of casual mis geographical locationing of DT

FondantFancyAnyone · 02/11/2025 14:57

Well, Scotland is northern. I now know where Bathgate is. Smile
Sometimes I need a reminder that somewhere 'not far from Manchester/Leeds' isn't very accurate.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/11/2025 17:34

If you mean Julie Hesmondhalgh, I thought she was excellent in Broadchurch. Good series (all three of them).

It never does an actor any favours to become omnipresent, as both DT and OC have been in recent years. Reminds me of this summary of a film actor's career:

  1. “Who is Hugh O’Brian?” (2) “Get me Hugh O’Brian as the star of our next picture!” (3) “Get me somebody who’s a Hugh O’Brian type.” (4) “Get me a young Hugh O’Brian.” (5) “Who WAS Hugh O’Brian?”

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , I'm sure she is a fine actor and probably a nice, genuine, person.
Olivia Colman is a great actor, and can play different types of roles, but the omnipresence has been noted.
DT for some reason irritates me. I haven't seen him in much but I don't watch much.
It's the omnipresence that probably put TA MNers off J...

Gonners · 02/11/2025 18:41

I don't get the Joy hatred, really. I mean yes, she's mildly annoying at times, but so many of them are extremely annoying ALL the time that Joy fades into insignificance in that respect. And now the sexy times in the hot tub have been forgotten, I quite like her.

I'm rather hoping that her panto production will be a huge success, once she's silenced the moaners with a "Would you like me to ask Lynda to take over?" If Lynda (lurking with her ear to the door, with a view to interfering) can overhear the cries of "No! No! Please, not her ... ANYONE but Lynda!" and throw herself into the Am in despair, 2025 will end on a high note for me.

FondantFancyAnyone · 02/11/2025 18:53

I don't get the Joy hatred Neither do I. I like her.
She's probably going to take over duties from Lynda Snell.
The Lynda actor is approaching 80, I think.

Bruisername · 02/11/2025 19:16

I can’t bear joy and it’s because

she was inserted into every sl
shes always helpful and kind but in a really irritating way
the whole Rochelle sl - I mean what a crock of shit
shes like mummy rabbit - is there a skill she doesn’t have?
the poor sodding dog

maybe if they toned it down and she was less present I would like her more

FondantFancyAnyone · 02/11/2025 19:29

But in time her secrets will be revealed.

Bruisername · 02/11/2025 19:42

But I don’t care!

I wish one of those crocodiles in the Am had snagged her

Gonners · 04/11/2025 20:54

Nibbled to death by minnows would have been funnier. I can't find it in my cold, dead heart to dislike Joy, though, and hope she chucks Mick out when she hears about this.

RegimentalSturgeon · 04/11/2025 22:52

can't find it in my cold, dead heart to dislike Joy

Try harder, @Gonners

Gonners · 05/11/2025 20:11

I'm afraid Joy's faults pale into insignificance when compared with those of Alice, Fagash, Jolene, Kenton, the entire Bridge Farm mob (with a special mention for Helen and Tom), Susan, all they Grundys except Clarrie, and too many others to name right now.

And this evening's nonsense has put me right off Chris-toe-furr, so well done to the scriptwriters for that!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/11/2025 20:16

The specific SW wot dunnit this week was Shaun McKenna. It's his fifth week of writing for TA, and already I wish he'd stayed as a memory from "Home Front".
