Radio Times Ambridge Diary 5-10 January
Leonard is knocked sideways by some emotional news and all does not go well when he faces a difficult day with the Brookfield family standing by his side. Harrison has to fight to keep his emotions in check when he faces a challenging callout, but then receives a surprising offer from his superior. Lily takes matters into her own hands when Brad tells her he's struggling, Jolene makes a rash decision at The Bull, and Khalil's mouth runs away with him.

12th January – 17th January 2025
12.1 Justin faces a dilemma, and plans forge ahead for Ruth.

Rochelle said she was 15 in the late 1990s. I would take the late 1990s to be 97, 98 or 99 meaning Rochelle was born between 1982 to 1984 so she's between 41-43 if she's already had a birthday in 2025 or 40-42 if she hasn't. She is not 46.

If you're going to tell people off about what they post perhaps don't invent facts that aren't in the plot. Rochelle can't be 46.

If you'd listened to it you would have heard Rochelle give a really, really good clue about her age - and she isn't 46.

Can’t find the actresses dob but I suspect from her cv she is a lot younger than Rochelle is meant to be

Her CV says she has a BA Acting for Stage & Screen ’09. So 21 in 2009, born 1988, which would be 4 to 6 years younger than Rochelle.

I think it's realistic for Rochelle's behaviour to be younger than her actual age, because we've had so many hints about her traumatic teenage years/young adulthood that it's very possible she is not very emotionally mature.

I certainly know lots of people that are older in age but have lives full of drama that I'd associate with people much younger.

I'll do a full round up of spoilers over the weekend, but thought I'd just mention now that the spoiler for VE Day, i.e. 8th May, says It’s the end of an era in Ambridge, and the village commemorates VE Day. Curtains for Peggy, I assume. Tony and Lilian both in the cast list.

"It's the end of an era in Ambridge" is a favourite phrase with the spoiler writers; they recently used it about Clarrie leaving the dairy, for instance.

Oh, I know, and it could mean that the village shop no longer stocks custard creams. We shall see.

Thoughts and prayers

I THINK I read somewhere that they were going to use VE day as a fitting tribute to deaded Peggy. About time.

I’m still cross that her 100th birthday was shoe-horned in with just a couple of lines (I’m sure that the Editor had to be reminded).

Charles Collingwood is on Saturday Live celebrating 50 years of being on The Archers.

Dare we hope for a “bit more Brian” having masterful scripts for a few months?

I think I surmised the same regarding Peggy’s demise on the main thread, @Madcats - though that may not be your source!

Rochelle starts to feel pressure from all sides, including questions from Joy, after one Ambridge resident puts their foot in it. There's excitement and anticipation over a happy event at Bridge Farm [goat-related, I assume], but Helen faces a problem and her response to Pat's solution surprises her mother. Freddie has a mystery to solve at Casey Meats and Rex is fighting his own feelings, unsure what to do for the best - will his decision turn out to be correct?

Well, if Peggy shuffles - you know how they like one in, one out, like Nigel / Henry? Maybe Kate’s pregnant?

Kate will not be pregnant. She’s too old and thought she was pregnant when in fact she was menopausal a while back now. Besides, who could she dump another one on?

That’s precisely why it will be a miracle.

As this is the spoilers thread, what will happen to Kate?

Are we expected to assume that all the imminently deaded people are penniless?

She was one of the few women to get a degree and then a masters, I thought?

I could completely understand a Madikane leaving SA, which would be a good match for Ruari and Xander if they ever speak (again). (In my defence I’ve not checked who might be too closely related here).

Wot? Wot?? You can’t mean one of Kate’s children getting together with Kate’s half brother Ruairi? Or with her nephew Xander???

Kate does not have a degree. Nor does she have a master's degree. Nor, come to that, does she have any GCSE's, which she took and failed, nor A-levels which she was in no way qualified to take.

What she does have is a one-year certificate in General Eco Woo, from Felpersham University; her qualification for taking it was that she had written a blurb, part of a website, about the charity at which she had worked in RSA, and Daddy had the money to pay for the course.. She did think a couple of years later that she might study for a further qualification, but her tutor was mean to her and didn't pander to her sufficiently (my interpretation of her whinge) so after only a few weeks she dropped out of the course Brian had bought for her when she was pretending that Lucas hadn't thrown her out of the marital home for having sex with men other than him.

Noluthando Madikane was born on 19th January, 2001, Ruairi Donovan on 14th November, 2002, Sipho Madikane on 26th July, 2007, and (Alexander) Xander Craig Macy (or is it Macy Craig?) on 23rd September, 2019. Brian is the father of Ruairi, grandfather of Noluthando and Sipho, and no blood-relation to Xander as far as is known.

Do you mean a "good match" as in a good dramatic counterpoint" or "a good match" as in a romantic sense? The Madikane children are Ruari's nephews and nieces (niblings)

But as TottersBlankly pointed out Kate is his aunt.

Kate is related to Adam, and therefore to Xander, through her mother. Brian is not related to Adam by blood (and was not allowed by Roger Travers-Macy to adopt him) so he is no blood-relation of Xander's either.

Well yes, I had intended my hopes for “a good match” to translate into being ‘an interesting counterpoint of dialogue vs dramatic angst’, but feel free to continue with the genealogy stuff.

Once in a blue moon I suspect that some of the SWs swipe through this thread.
