Radio Times Ambridge Diary 5-10 January
Leonard is knocked sideways by some emotional news and all does not go well when he faces a difficult day with the Brookfield family standing by his side. Harrison has to fight to keep his emotions in check when he faces a challenging callout, but then receives a surprising offer from his superior. Lily takes matters into her own hands when Brad tells her he's struggling, Jolene makes a rash decision at The Bull, and Khalil's mouth runs away with him.

12th January – 17th January 2025
12.1 Justin faces a dilemma, and plans forge ahead for Ruth.
13.1 Joy isn’t herself at all, and Helen considers her options.
14.1 Rex is left confused, and Neil has questions.
15.1 The verdict is in for Kirsty, and Brian finds himself out of his comfort zone.

Vince gave Beth a job in the office at the meat processing works. Where, we were never told; he doesn't have just the one abattoir, but you'd never know it from his always and only seeming to be at the one near Ambridge where Freddie is employed.

It is ridiculous - there’s no reason at all for Vince to ever be in Ambridge. (Unless specifically invited by a particular resident.) At the moment a new listener might assume he lives five minutes from The Bull.

The person who invites him does not even live in Ambridge. Lower Loxley is a different village.

Beth works at the market, delivers berately not for her Dad. I think she is a trainee auctioneer

13 April...bonds form for Freddie

There's definitely something odd with Rochelle. Why on earth would a vegan want to work at an abattoir at all let alone in butchery. She's cosying up to Freddie to try and get an "in", isn't she?

They are treating her like she was an enthusiastic 25 year old, not a woman old to be Freddie's mother.
What's her work history, other than a few days volunteering in a village shop?

I think Vince likes the idea of living in a minor stately home but that's not going to happen. Roach-hell has been laying it on with a trowel, and Mince might be thinking with his trousers

I think the SW’s probably backed themselves into a corner with Joy and Rochelle.

Once we’d been told that Joy married young in 1978 (so 46/7 years ago) there was little chance that Rochelle could be anything other than in her perimenopausal years.

It makes the way she chats with Freddie and Rex seem odd, even if she is young for her age (which seems unlikely if she went off the rails at 15).

How is broke Rochelle getting herself to work, by the way? (I’m only bothering to catch about 20% of episodes ATM).

Rochelle told Mick she was 15 in the summer in the late 1990s, which I would take to mean 97, 98 or 99.

That means she was born between 1982 to 1984 so she's between 41-43 if she's already had a birthday in 2025 or 40-42 if she hasn't.

but even if she were 40 she still comes across as a lot younger and is treated that way

but as I’ve said before - characters all seem to be written a lot younger than they actually are

Freddy was born in December 1999 Rochelle was 15 in the summer in the late 90s. She is I suppose in theory old enough to be his mother but she'd have been between 15-17.

You're obsessed with 1995 being the only year that had a heatwave. 1995 isn't "late 90s" and there's nothing to support the idea that the SWs bothered to check the temperature in the summers of the 1990s

anyway it’s kind of irrelevant if she’s 41 or 45 given they seem to have her behaving as if she’s 21. She’s a ver poorly written character tbh and the sooner she get trampled by the escaping cows the better

Three years in the1990s had heatwaves, according to Wikipedia:1990, which I discount because she'd had had to have been born before her parents were married and I somehow feel she would have made that yet another stick to beat Joy with, 1995 and 1997.

I'd like to believe that The Archers is listened to by people who can't wait to know what happens next, so could we tone down the bickering and negativity please.

Whatever happens next I don’t think it can be terminal for Vince so I suspect he will get a ticking off from Lizzie and they will assess their seriousness and some cows may be saved from becoming burgers

Well, speaking purely personally, it’s the bickering and negativity that gives me an interest in life; happiness and light makes me sneeze.

The SWs are v bad at writing convincingly for the age of characters, or so I find.

Ah, people who don't agree that you are entitled to tell us how we are to post are what you don't like. Well, that's understandable, I suppose. Forgive me if I fail to obey your diktats. (Or don't; it's really all one to me.)
