Steve Allen leaves LBC 'with immediate effect'

Blimey. 44 years at LBC, I thought he was immovable. I'd love to know what happened to cause this without even a wave of farewell. He'd have made a right meal of it on his programme if it had happened to someone else.

I do wonder if he had some autistic traits with the lack of empathy and not realising he was being offensive etc etc. However don’t they say that most people are somewhere on the spectrum to different extents. He drove me made but I do miss the travel he spoke in the morning it did help you doze of again!

No, he was just mean, had a vicious tongue and was a bellend.

Apparently it was for misgendering Sam Smith? He said something like "I'm not going to say they, it's stupid, it's he"

Really? If that's the case I think LBC need to take a long hard look at themselves. Personally I found Steve many years ago and I loved him until he recently became very bitter and his 'persona/show' started becoming repetitive and predictable with him telling the same stories from his formative years and picking on the same 'celebs'. I like Ian Payne.

bamboonights · 03/03/2023 18:51

Also LBC have never mentioned Darren Adam going. Appalling treatment for loyal listeners who are just left not knowing.

BalloonInvestigator · 03/03/2023 20:31

I can’t find Darren Adam on Twitter, sadly.

BalloonInvestigator · 03/03/2023 20:33

I wonder if SA was beginning with dementia or something

I wonder if SA was beginning with dementia or something

What a ridiculous ageist comment.

BalloonInvestigator · 03/03/2023 21:33

I am the same age as SA🙄

3luckystars · 03/03/2023 21:33

I really miss him at this time of day - LBC is completely rubbish now

Agree. I used to live overseas and used to listen to his podcast every day as I walked to work. Not many people can make me laugh out loud.

Dale Winton is dead?????!!!!

Yes he's still dead.

goingtotown · 03/03/2023 23:01

SA is LBC's loss. I'll never listen to LBC again.

ZaZathecat · 03/03/2023 23:12

Oh no! I'm an insomniac LBC listener and can't believe SAv and DA have just suddenly gone. I assumed Payne was just filling in as usual. Ian Payne is a bit like radio presenter, but more thick.

Nimbostratus100 · 03/03/2023 23:24

I hope he reads this 😂

hypocritical gobshite James O'Brien ranting
yes!!!! 😁 sanctimonious pr*ck

He is unbearable.
Should be him going off air. Awful man. Worst part of LBC.

VivienneDelacroix · 04/03/2023 03:11

Good. He's a vile, arrogant, class-less little bitch.

newnamethanks · 04/03/2023 09:36

Although SA had/has a solid fan base I think it very unlikely that he was attracting new listeners. I doubt anyone under 50 could bear to listen to him for very long without reaching for the off button. It's all about the numbers. A faithful but ageing and static fan base is of little use to a commercial radio station. He must have known this, he should have updated and not relied on nostalgia and malice combined with patronising the support staff. I hope he find something else though, he appeared to have nothing else but LBC in his life.

Good points, but would love to know what exactly the trigger point was. Very much doubt he left of his own accord.

Also wonder if he is coping well with the shock.

purser25 · 04/03/2023 10:20

Could be a culmination of lots of different things maybe warnings and ill health

figlife · 04/03/2023 10:24

@newnamethanks I'm way under 50 and listened to him since being a teenager. I don't know why you think gossip and Celebes wouldn't appeal to younger people, he often references Love Island. He's not trying to appeal to Radio 4 listeners.

The only reason he perhaps doesn't have a younger audience is because younger people don't really listen to LBC and definitely not at 4am.

figlife · 04/03/2023 10:28

LBC was definitely a big part of his life, it's a job he loved clearly. It will be disappointing as it would be to anyone- but I think whether you like him or loathe him, he won't struggle long term.

He still has many people who enjoyed his shows, money (presumably) and family/friends.

He's at an age where his retirement was hastened but he's not scrambling to look for work. It's the right time I guess.

BalloonInvestigator · 04/03/2023 10:48

He may become more involved with the Magic Circle, another part of his life.

ZaZathecat · 04/03/2023 21:23

Sounds like the last straw was his comments about Tilly Ramsey, as per today's papers.

Proposedmcstooting · 08/03/2023 12:02

Quite!

Yep me too . Listening to HEART 80'S now

I really miss Steve Allen. I loved his wit and humour at 5am -7am when I was at my morning job.
Tried Ian Payne for 3 days ... no thanks
