Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Steph Casey is a wonderful addition to the programme, or similar odd views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Too dispirited to add much else. Have we reached a new low?

I suppose the Archer twins will be born before we need a new thread. 👶👶
Any thoughts on names? Patrick and Antonia were suggested before - inspired! Peggy has to be a strong contender.

Over to you!

According to June she could have a fall and get shipped off to The Laurels. Apparently it has not been decided yet how she will expire.

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 08:36

BBC might like to sort their grammar too

Her last appearance was aired during the omnibus edition on Sunday, when she discussed getting a stained glass window commissioned of her two great-grandchildren.

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 08:37

Has that ever happened before - an older character becoming non- speaking?

Marjorie Antrobus?
Christine Barford?
(guesses, not facts)

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/08/2022 08:48

I think they might dead her in order to give her a massive send-off full of eulogy.

And then, of course, there would be The Will Grin

Well done June Spencer, I hope they give her a Damehood (Dameship?)

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 08:54

Auntie Chris - yes, of course, thanks.

Just been thinking about The Will, do we know what's in it already, or just gifts in recent years?

Great time for Hazel to return as Mistress of GG!

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 09:05

To correct my post above, we don't know what's going to happen this week.

If she does get killed off soon, the window will be a family argument - should it be for the twins, her last wish, or for her?

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/08/2022 09:09

And who will get custody of Hilda Ogden? I think it's only Kate and Joy that get on with her.

Maybe Brine and Jenny will end up in The Lodge.

MuddlerInLaw · 08/08/2022 09:20

The Lodge?

I seem to remember during the Fondant Fancy debacle Peggy declared she would leave it to Helen? But I don’t recall if that was changed when she was shown the error of her ways and rethought her Will.

ButtonintheBox · 08/08/2022 10:10

From the Telegraph interview with June Spencer

After seven decades of playing Peggy, Spencer knows the character better than anyone, and says the writers can get it wrong.

“They’ve run away with the idea that Peggy is very rich after Jack died, but she’s not”, said Spencer.

“I had to correct them on that, because Peggy’s been giving money away, left right and centre, but she hasn’t got any. Jack didn’t leave her any, he left it all to his stepdaughter.”

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 11:16

Oh, that's interesting re how much money she's got.

Interview with Felicity Finch on Woman's Hour, about halfway through. The whole cast only found out this morning that last week's episode was June's last. Felicity and the rest sound to be quite upset! (They knew she was going, but not when.)

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 08/08/2022 11:31

Hopefully she will go off to the Laurels to be with Aunty Cardboard. I wonder if Kate gets to stay on at the Lodge with the cat.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/08/2022 11:34

Whoever gets The Lodge might sell it, enabling J&B tobuy it.

I think if that's the case it must have come from June not wanting any fuss. I can imagine someone born in 1919 (!!!!!) has a very different approach to most actors now. She must have kept that secret herself (from her fellow cast members) and so I guess she's stage managed this.

Helen has been left the lodge
i bet Tom would swap a stained glass window for it

BadlydoneHelen · 08/08/2022 12:47

Leaving Kursedy's house free again for her and AdilWink

SouthWestChief · 08/08/2022 12:48

Maybe she did equity release to fund the rewildibg and nothing is left

Roysnewshirt · 08/08/2022 13:20

She’s not given any indication of ill-health so it would have to be a fall that takes her to the Laurels rather than anything else as @UrsulaPandress suggests.

We’ve had both Bert and Joe’s funerals quite recently so may be she won’t actually die though it would be very EastEnders to leave the door open for the potential return of a centenarian…

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 13:54

Good points @Roysnewshirt

MuddlerInLaw · 08/08/2022 14:07

Cunning bit of man management by Lynda!

Grin
WhoppingBigBackside · 08/08/2022 14:54

What's up with Tracey?
I hope they aren't going to do anything to do with her being menopausal, and I'm rather hoping that maybe there's a wee Trazzer on the way.

MuddlerInLaw · 08/08/2022 14:57

Oooooh!!!!

Tracy wasn’t on my list!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/08/2022 15:06

Surely Tracy is too old for that at 47? What I'm hoping is that Natasha takes her on to replace the useless man at Summer Orchard.

Sad news to wake up to about June Spencer's retirement, but not unexpected. Thanks for the mention of the brief bit on Woman's Hour. I'm hoping for a good send off for Peggy in the very near future so June Spencer gets to hear all the tributes. Peggy is 97, after all. A mere youngster compared with 103-year-old Ms Spencer, but a grand old age!
