Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Steph Casey is a wonderful addition to the programme, or similar odd views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Too dispirited to add much else. Have we reached a new low?

I suppose the Archer twins will be born before we need a new thread. 👶👶
Any thoughts on names? Patrick and Antonia were suggested before - inspired! Peggy has to be a strong contender.

Over to you!

Denise is married. I suspect a relationship will flourish there

I think we are about to be treated to several scenes of self-denial and angst. Sigh…Unfortunately, I just don’t think Alistair and Denise would find it easy to conduct a torrid affair. Too upright and focused on doing the right thing. We might be treated to a passionate clinch over the dog weighing machine one evening but that will be followed by lots of hand-wringing and a decision to be just be good friends/colleagues. She’s not going to want to move in with Alistair and his Dad, surely?

A different site says he's 5'5". I looked up the Home Secretary's height for comparison and got 5'3" and 5'5. and the Foreign Secretary is 5'6" and 5'3".

Michael Gove is taller than Boris Johnson
1st time I was in a room with them both it totally distracted me.

stilldumdedumming · 06/08/2022 16:55

Yes are we supposed to care about exploding apple juice? I thought it would be George low key vandal related.

UrsulaPandress · 06/08/2022 21:16

Every farrier I’ve ever used has hot shod. And a group of them used to meet on a Monday night to drink beer and make shoes.

Shula will move to an needy inner city oop Norf.

The SWs have been presenting Adil has having superhuman levels of empathy and emotional intelligence. Does anyone think we're being softened up for an appalling revelation about him?

Hopefully not after he and Kirsty get together....

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/08/2022 00:16

Perhaps there will be an exciting spin-off on R4 extra where Smugula, resplendent in ecru cardigan and thermal undercrackers, sallies forth to convert the heathen northerners. A bit like that nun who helped Uhtred of Bebbanburgh.
It'll be like a mash-up of The Last Kingdom and Geordie Shore.

I was thinking Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds but I've always been a little lowbrow.
I'd love to hear Coolio being played on R4 though.

BlossomsOnATree · 07/08/2022 10:37

Omg I always imagine her in an ecru cardigan! One of those kind of chunky open-knit ones.

WhoppingBigBackside · 07/08/2022 11:48

@PasswordProtection , that wouldn't have surprised me. MG is probably not as tall as he looks - I think he's quite slim but BJ isn't tall. There was a rumour that he had surrounded himself with people who were shorter than him

FlosCampi · 07/08/2022 13:33

I've just listened to the omnibus and need to grumble about the scriptwriters' concept of jobs. I don't have any knowledge about the accuracy of the farming stuff, but the rest: Captain of Industry Justin is investing in a little local riding stables and doesn't recognise the acronym WFH; Adil (?project manager or owner in disguise) lives in a B and B for months, while being treated slightingly by the landlady and consulting extensively with the locals; ordinand Shula has no placement, no college work, no retreats and swans off to work as a missionary in inner-city Durham (!) because "It's just soooo me!". I'm not an ordinand, captain of industry or project manager, but if these things feel unconvincing to me, don't they sit uneasily with the writers too?

MuddlerInLaw · 07/08/2022 14:01

You’d think, huh?

Definitely raised my eyebrow at the WFH ignorance. And having loitered around the odd Oxbridge theological college, Shula’s ‘training’ is a mystery to me. Hmm

FlosCampi · 07/08/2022 19:25

Woah- tuned in half way- did Lynda just sugges the only Indian character does palmistry and fortune telling at the summer fete? A bit of snake charming too perhaps? What a demeaning stereotype. Isn't Lynda a practising Christian too?

WhoppingBigBackside · 07/08/2022 19:35

The only Indian character is Usha. Adil is British Pakistani.

FlosCampi · 07/08/2022 19:46

Apologies, I stand corrected.

WhoppingBigBackside · 07/08/2022 19:54

Easy mistake to make, the actor is British Indian.

FlosCampi · 07/08/2022 20:44

I've just looked up the actor and agree with the previous poster who said Phwoarr!

Prestissimo · 07/08/2022 22:15

In fairness to Lynda it wasn't a suggestion completely out of the blue. He's done it before. And he did say he'd do anything other than be the goalie for a penalty shootout (or an Alan substitute in dunk-the-vicar).

It feels like Grey Gables' renovation is going to be very long-winded if Tracy's job misery lasts as long. There must be loads of jobs she could get instead, surely. Even if just as filler before the inevitable General Manager position or whatever nonsense storyline-resolution they have in store for us. Agree with pp that it feels sometimes as though the SWs have never even met anyone with an actual job.

SouthWestChief · 08/08/2022 00:11

the actor is 51 but his character acts like early 30s?

TwoBlondes · 08/08/2022 06:31

They've just announced on the news that yesterday's omnibus was Piggoi's last appearance

I’m a bit outraged that I heard on the news that we’ve already had her final scene.

I know we thought it sounded like it but …

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 08/08/2022 08:12

Oh what! They should have warned us.she deserved a bigger send off.

Roysnewshirt · 08/08/2022 08:14

We all know now who will be commemorated in the stained glass window…

JanglyBeads · 08/08/2022 08:28

This article and the headlines I've heard this morning just said she was leaving....!!!

So they've released a literal spoiler. We all know what's going to happen this week.

Not impressed. They could have announced it a few hours after The Episode.
