Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Steph Casey is a wonderful addition to the programme, or similar odd views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Too dispirited to add much else. Have we reached a new low?

I suppose the Archer twins will be born before we need a new thread. 👶👶
Any thoughts on names? Patrick and Antonia were suggested before - inspired! Peggy has to be a strong contender.

Over to you!

Oh dear. I made the mistake of taking a look at the actor who plays Adil. (Ronny Jhutti.) He’s very good looking - probably a bit out of Kirsty’s league …

Atichen · 05/08/2022 13:15

Not sure how much stain glass windows cost and besides all the practical baby things /University savings (though they'll I've at home and go to felpsham) that thell need 2 off everything ... what about tomtaser not having a house of there own (although nore does helen/kate) and are in 2bed house with2 kids and it sou ds like the girls room is a box room

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 13:17

I'd imagine the whole village apart from Peggy and Hellin would find the idea ridiculous.

Atichen · 05/08/2022 13:26

I'm also disappointed that Oliver took so long to offer to fund Brad's maths course that he dropped out of the summer one, but they'll have time to get advance train tickets and book a travelodge nice and cheep...., Birmingham-Manchester is £5 each way on the coach at the moment

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/08/2022 13:58

I can't help picturing teeny tiny Rishi when Adil speaks.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/08/2022 14:23

Yes Captain! Wandering around the countryside in his suede Gucci loafers and skinny trousers Grin

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 14:29

I imagine someone not dissimilar to RS but a few inches taller.

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 14:52

Maybe someone like Syed in Eastenders but with short Rishi hair in a light grey suit and grey suede brogues. Not seen EE for a while so no idea if he's still in it.

BlossomsOnATree · 05/08/2022 14:54

Actually- it's the simpering that got to me!!!

Helen is the ultimate simperer! If we had to explain to aliens what simpering is, it would just be a big sequence of 2-second clips of Helen. It's been driving me mad for decades.

Diocese of St. Albans criteria for commissioning a stained glass window.

www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.stalbans.anglican.org/wp-content/uploads/downloads/buildings/commissioningstainedglassleaflet15.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjhvPCxh7D5AhWGN8AKHbwKCYgQFnoECC8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw2DjZAQcdL9UwLL2Hs91P_L.

Determine the relationship of donors to the decision-making process and how their contribution will be acknowledged.

The spiritual contribution of the window to parish life long term, and the enhancement of the architectural space, must remain paramount. The committee, not the donor, should decide the subject matter, and convey this diplomatically. If a donor insists on dictating the subject, their donation may have to be rejected. This applies also to memorial windows; the mission of the parish must determine the subject, not the personal interests or achievements of the deceased.

Is Rishi short? I'd always assumed he was quite tall.

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 17:08

He's 5'6".

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/08/2022 17:39

Here he is as a little bonsai Chancellor

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 17:58

A different site says he's 5'5". I looked up the Home Secretary's height for comparison and got 5'3" and 5'5. and the Foreign Secretary is 5'6" and 5'3".

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/08/2022 18:52

I'm willing to bet those expensive shoes of his have lifts in them.

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 19:32

Hmm... wonder who could step into Shula's yard boots?

FlosCampi · 05/08/2022 19:38

It feels like she's being written out v urgently, if they were let events take their course she could have been ordained next Petertide and phased out! Maybe it's clearing the decks for the Alistair/ Denise relationship to blossom, though I would have quite enjoyed hearing her twittering solipsistically ( if that's a word) about her ex moving on.

LillianGish · 05/08/2022 19:49

Actually- it's the simpering that got to me!!! - my feelings exactly!

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2022 19:51

Denise is married. I suspect a relationship will flourish there.
It is a word but not one that could possibly be used in relation to Shula.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/08/2022 21:27

Maybe Shula actress wants to retire.

I just hope she doesn't take Brian with her! <worries>

MuddlerInLaw · 05/08/2022 23:55

Yeah but no but …. Surely Shula can’t reasonably withdraw from TA. Only death or good works on a far, far continent could be an acceptable reason for her voice never to be heard again.

Peggy and Jill have made it impossible for Archers characters to retire otherwise!

MuddlerInLaw · 05/08/2022 23:56

(I mean core characters, obvs.)

BeaLola · 06/08/2022 00:33

Not sure why Shula being written out so quickly but it is paving the way for Alice to be in charge

JanglyBeads · 06/08/2022 09:19

Haven't listened yet - Shula leaving???

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 06/08/2022 09:58

Shula's imminent departure (not in the bag) does surely pave the way for Alice to manage the stables. It's such a shame tbough that she won't return to engineering.

I can't stand all the fussing around Adil, makes no sense he's just the intermediary not the big cheese. Why would the new owner pay for him to be holed up in Ambridge for months at a time, no need for him to be there full time surely? What a waste of money.

Not even sure I care about the exploding apple juice.
