Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Steph Casey is a wonderful addition to the programme, or similar odd views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Too dispirited to add much else. Have we reached a new low?

I suppose the Archer twins will be born before we need a new thread. 👶👶
Any thoughts on names? Patrick and Antonia were suggested before - inspired! Peggy has to be a strong contender.

Over to you!

Have we reached a new low?

Pretty sure someone says that every thread Grin

I'd give it about a 6 out of 10 these days, nice to have more stories with the younger generation, but still frustrating that the scripties seem to set up fascinating and intricate storylines/situations and never return to them.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/07/2022 16:44

Usually me! Grin

4.5/10 from me.

But at the very least we had Tom/ Tash and Helen discussing farming stuff yesterday.
But the gazpacho - just four tomatoes for all that lot of people? It's going to be thin pickings for dinner!

(sorry, I listened uninterrupted so heard all the tiniest details 😄)

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/07/2022 17:02

Thanks Gasp0de Flowers

The 🔮 is of the opinion that Pinky and Perky will make an early appearance, so as to thwart Tash's plans.

And when do we think the first buffalo will come thundering into Ambridge?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 04/07/2022 17:09

Place marking!!

Hercisback · 04/07/2022 17:11

Place marking.
TA is bonkers but I can't stop listening. Like an addiction to see how much worse it can possibly get.

PlantSpider · 04/07/2022 17:38

Do they make goats cheese yet?

EnterACloud · 04/07/2022 17:48

It's going to be thin pickings for dinner!

I haven't heard yesterday's yet but if this is Pat and Tony's cooking they always seem to be living off watery gruel and lentil parfait.

ILoveShula · 04/07/2022 18:08

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . The Casey sisters are a new low.
I still can't stand Pip.

Stath · 04/07/2022 18:09

Another thing that Steph said that sounded strange has just come to mind.

She’s supposed to be insta fluent and would obviously be au fait with hair and beauty trends. Think it was rather old fashioned to say she might have her hair ‘ombré’ when, for the past few years it’s been all about the balayage trend of lightening.

Stath · 04/07/2022 18:10

My vote is still for Tat and Pony.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/07/2022 18:18

I will concede I love the idea that Ambridge could have its own buffalo herd. Surely Ian's pizza van is an obvious potential customer?

And yes, they must have been serving gazpacho in eggcups.

Tat and Pony. Grin I bow to your expertise in matters of hair colouring, @Stath. I thought I was doing quite well to know what ‘ombré’ was, and that's entirely down to MN.

Deonds whether they're cherry tomatoes or beefsteak ones, but... yeah.

EBearhug · 04/07/2022 18:54

For deonds, read depends...

TherapistInATabard · 04/07/2022 20:06

Fanks for the fred. The always-mentioning-the-person-you’re-talking-to’s-name thing always jars with me, but I guess that’s the problem with radio.

Susan and Emma both call their nearest and dearest luv don’t they?

dimples76 · 04/07/2022 20:34

I couldn't get passed the meagre ingredients either- for 6 adults and 2 children. The quantities sounded enough for 2.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 04/07/2022 21:10

I can't believe Helen hasn't thought of mail order cheese before now. All the artisan cheese makers do it. Or that she needed Susan's advice on how to do it.

Lynda is both ghastly and stupid at the moment. The hotel was failing and it's been closed for renovations.

And as for the pizza van... The obvious route for Ian was to open a restaurant. The room fairy could squirrel up a room at The Bull. They could easily do bar food and fine dining. Places like The Peat Inn are in the middle of nowhere and you have to book weeks ahead. Or Fallon and he could have come to an arrangement re the café and open it to fine dining in the evening.

I don't have words re the Casey family.

EnterACloud · 04/07/2022 23:10

Why is Pat so sniffy about Natasha’s mum? Has she come round before and tried to bang Tony on the kitchen table? Or is this just some weird My Grandchild shit??

I think Tom named Helen at least twice in 20 seconds during the last episode, not sure whether I picked up on it more due to reading this thread or whether it was actually as jarring as I felt it was... However, I don't name my siblings or friends that often to their face during conversation (especially one to one) as there's no need!

Pat calls people (Tony, Helen, Tom) 'love', too.

Poppins2016 · 05/07/2022 01:08

*that should say, 'Tom named Helen at least twice during conversation with her'

Poppins2016 · 05/07/2022 01:18

Agree with the sentiment regarding having no words about the Casey sisters...

I'm interested to see how this will pan out. Vince now seems a little suspicious. Steph is awful beyond words. Someone pondered re a suicide attempt storyline on the previous thread... I half wonder about that, or perhaps an accident (due to mental state or tiredness?) that will bring Beth to Ben's bedside and draw out a confession from Steph... (One more thought, might Ben somehow lose his nursing career before it's even started - he's already been sent home for falling asleep on the job - and end up farming instead?).

SaltyCrisp · 05/07/2022 04:55

As Natasha is Welsh, the twins will be named Dylan and Cerys.
Obvs!

BorsetshireBanality · 05/07/2022 06:28

Anyone remember when Steph propositioned Freddie with a threesome with Liam?

I’m waiting for Freddie to bitch about this to Ben but of course this will be yet another forgotten storyline?

ILoveShula · 05/07/2022 08:10

I doubt it @SaltyCrisp , those names are very middle-aged for Welsh-speakers.

They already have names - Pinky and Perky
