Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would be delighted to be given a goldfish named after your ex, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Apologies for ignoring the various title suggestions on the last thread. However, here they are, plus a couple of other pithy observations, to kickstart the new thread. I think it's fair to say nobody is looking on this as a Golden Era! Goldfish Era, though ...

@Roysnewshirt: Everyone wants more! Chris wants more Amy; Jazzer wants more Tracey; Alice wants more time with Martha and Amy wants more space… Very true. And now we know Kirsty wants more farming expertise in the rewilding project, but not Pip (thank the lord) so does that mean approaching Adam? Currently under-employed.

@LillianGish: I tune in to hear birdsong and bleating in the English countryside not hammy acting and suggestive grunting.

@stilldumdedumming: Archers is good at the dynamics of family, farming, what it means to have your job, your home and your inheritance so closely aligned etc etc not this nonsense!

@DoctorTwo: Like fuck would Pheobe buy her parents a goldfish each. The Ambridge character transplant fairy has been working overtime this past few weeks, it's been absolutely fucking appalling bar a couple of exceptions.

Can't disagree with any of that. I want to hear more about the pigs and any other effects of Brexit. A topical insert about the war in Ukraine must surely be on the way.

Any happy listeners out there? Any disgruntled listeners with even more grumbles? Over to you!

I usually have a packet of butterscotch Angel Delight in the cupboard.

DoctorTwo · 25/03/2022 12:29

More or less 31 years ago to the day the first tune I ever played for DS was Angel's Delight from Viva Dead Ponies.

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 25/03/2022 12:40

I guessed when the Easter Bunny appeared and didn't speak that it wasn't Russ. Did we find out who it actually was, if so I must have missed it?

The entire listening public knew that!

No we don't know who it was.

KimikosNightmare · 25/03/2022 13:42

@Roysnewshirt

Angel Delight sales set to surge following that episode! But could it ever be as delicious as we remember it to be? Amazed they still make it - going to have to try it now…
Yes it is. I can't find the chocolate mint version which was also delicious.
Madcats · 25/03/2022 14:21

The continuity announcer just credited Anna Jones as the agricultural story advisor.

Hopefully there will be less about Amy/Chris/Alice and more about crops and animals.

Odd that Grey Gables isn't busy. Our local hotels are doing a roaring trade!!

suzyscat · 25/03/2022 14:47

Ooh all caught up.

So thoroughly enjoyed the rewilding vs farming chat in the Bull. I could have gone a lot longer on that. Although I recall when Brexit was the most pressing issue of the day, it was said that UK farms couldn't produce enough food for the country without being supplemented by imports.

I thought I'd be happy never hearing Ian again but I actually really enjoy his and Susan's friendship. I can't believe Susan is feeding a just turned 1 yo Angel delight regularly but strawberry angel delight is lush. I made a slag's sundae with it and Eton mess when I was pregnant and it made me very happy.

Beth's why are you telling me this was fabulous. As an over sharer this had me full body cringing for Lily.

Assumed Freddie's DJ equipment was going to be decks, a mixer and a rig. Not a bubble machine! Is he hoping to get on the Ambridge toddlers birthday circuit? Grin

Thought Alan was a bit too kind to Amy tbh. I'd have gone down the hate the sin, love the sinner route. Or at least not trumped out the technically you've done nothing wrong line, which might be comforting if it were true.

Definitely not interested in Adam's opinion on whether it's beneficial for a baby to be with its mother.

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/03/2022 15:05

My thoughts were that the easter bunny was Kenton, but I could be wrong

TA should not be providing free advertising

Its vile and nothing like it used to be- guar gum or similar

That might be a first?

If it was Kenton then it was seriously creepy behaviour on his part.

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/03/2022 17:35

I didn't think so. Years ago someone in a costume came up to me and IIRC kissed me on the cheek or high-fived me. I thought it was a teacher from my old school or a relative or something but it was my tutor

I thought Kenton because he fancies himself as a bit of a joker, but Toby, Lee or Ruairi or maybe Leonard were other candidates
If Lily hugged the EB, she'd probably have deduced if it was male or female

She was fondling its bottom.
WhoppingBigBackside · 25/03/2022 17:45

I certainly didn't fondle the costumed animal's bottom

Well she did think it was Russ.

Blimey Kim, that's a few posts now where you haven't slagged off the lovely Alice

suzyscat · 25/03/2022 18:10

But Kenton's her uncle Confused

LillianGish · 25/03/2022 18:16

I have no idea what you're on about. Lily was touching/ groping/ whatever whoever was in the bunny suit. No idea what relevance your comment about what you didn't do has to anything.

If it was Kenton in the suit, that's really creepy behaviour. Lily obviously thought it was Russ.

As an aside - never quite understood what the point of the "ooh look at me being sarky, rude, condescending, but not really I've crossed it out " posts are

EBearhug · 25/03/2022 23:22

I thought the Easter bunny was Rex.

Poppins2016 · 26/03/2022 01:25

I hate "the archers does comedy". I long for the good old days (which probably weren't all that good, but I'm sure there was less of this comedy stuff going on).

I wonder whether the Easter bunny will turn out to be Russ after all, or someone he bribed to do it... too odd for someone to coincidentally just be trying out a costume! Unless... perhaps Toby or Pip decided to make Easter a bit of an eggstravaganza? I can't imagine Rex donning a bunny costume, though...

BeaLola · 26/03/2022 06:54

I thought this too - would have made more sense imo if she had referenced Keira to being the fan.

Nor Pip. Pip has many faults but I can't see Pip going along with allowing Lily to make a fool of herself.

Lily told Beth she hugged the bunny and patted it on the bum- whoever it was, it's quite creepy given Lily obviously thought it was her boyfriend.

ArabeI · 26/03/2022 11:11

I did think Pip, as Easter Bunny, for some reason, but am probably far wrong.

stilldumdedumming · 26/03/2022 11:18

The bunny was Russ - he's winding them up.

EthelTheAardvark · 26/03/2022 11:59

Could the bunny have been Lily's one night stand?

suzyscat · 26/03/2022 13:58

I'm hoping we never learn the secret of the bunny costume and it's just one of those things. The new bunting saga but with zero air time.

suzyscat · 26/03/2022 14:05

@BeaLola I was expecting her to say Kiera and was surprised when she didn't.

Although did enjoy her saying Chris is a bit OTT re sugar. (Although tbf I was probably worse than with my PFB & sugar, not quite so much the second time around.)
