Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would be delighted to be given a goldfish named after your ex, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Apologies for ignoring the various title suggestions on the last thread. However, here they are, plus a couple of other pithy observations, to kickstart the new thread. I think it's fair to say nobody is looking on this as a Golden Era! Goldfish Era, though ...

@Roysnewshirt: Everyone wants more! Chris wants more Amy; Jazzer wants more Tracey; Alice wants more time with Martha and Amy wants more space… Very true. And now we know Kirsty wants more farming expertise in the rewilding project, but not Pip (thank the lord) so does that mean approaching Adam? Currently under-employed.

@LillianGish: I tune in to hear birdsong and bleating in the English countryside not hammy acting and suggestive grunting.

@stilldumdedumming: Archers is good at the dynamics of family, farming, what it means to have your job, your home and your inheritance so closely aligned etc etc not this nonsense!

@DoctorTwo: Like fuck would Pheobe buy her parents a goldfish each. The Ambridge character transplant fairy has been working overtime this past few weeks, it's been absolutely fucking appalling bar a couple of exceptions.

Can't disagree with any of that. I want to hear more about the pigs and any other effects of Brexit. A topical insert about the war in Ukraine must surely be on the way.

Any happy listeners out there? Any disgruntled listeners with even more grumbles? Over to you!

Does anyone in real life say 'I think I'm falling in love with you.'? Still, at least she know where she stands now - better than hanging about hoping.

MereDintofPandiculation · 30/03/2022 20:17

@KimikosNightmare

Could it be Joy in the bunny costume? She's a charitable soul

Possibly but I assume Russ is at least average height for a man and probably slim build. I don't see Joy as being that shape.

Oh what a pity - Alice didn't explode at Fallon.

Who is Glenda? And what has happened to Berrow?

I see Joy as being average height for a man.

I assumed Glenda was a hitherto unmentioned board member

TopOfTheCliff · 30/03/2022 20:36

With the chat between Neil and Brian and Jazzer didn't they say someone had been let go from Berrow? Not Mikhail but C* (I can't remember the other staff names) So they will all have to work harder for less money to persuade Justin not to pull the plug. It's a good illustration of how hard it is to stay the right side of the poverty line if you are a low wage worker in uncertain times.

I loved hearing Kate saying her prayers to the Goddess for Roy the fish, that was classic Kate.

suzyscat · 30/03/2022 20:56

Between her make up with Alan and her standing down for the rewinding, Kate's been on good form lately.

EBearhug · 30/03/2022 21:43

Does anyone in real life say 'I think I'm falling in love with you.'?

I thought it was, "do you think we should be exclusive?" these days.

Chemenger · 31/03/2022 07:59

Is there any hope that Amy will slink off to Nottingham and never return to drone at people in Ambridge again? Maybe she can find male friends to randomly drop in on for sex there, who will be more amenable to “thinking they’re falling in love” after a one night stand.

They weren't even going out/dating/seeing each other though. It was a one night stand.

They don't have to be friends. There's a whole Tinder full of men wanting sex. Admittedly a lot of them appear to be married, but there are some single ones out there, too, and there's much less risk of thinking you're in love than with someone you've known for years.

SparklingLime · 31/03/2022 09:12

I called it on Chris getting cold feet. Not a huge leap perhaps, but I usually get all predictions wrong. So what was all that nonsense with Alan? Will he hunt Chris down and exact revenge?

SparklingLime · 31/03/2022 09:22

Perhaps Alan’s chat with Chris is foreshadowing a pregnancy?

Hear, hear! I cheered when she said she was off to Nottingham. No need to hurry back, Amy!

Kate was on excellent form. Poor Roy.

Yup. She will stay there. With the baybee.

Not after one shag! Cringe
SparklingLime · 31/03/2022 11:10

She actually said, “I think I’ve fallen in love with you”.

BowerOfBramble · 31/03/2022 13:38

Wrote a long post and the computer lost it, here's the summary.

BOOP for Neil and Jazzer.

fucking hell for Amy. I assumed she was going to say she loved Chris but this plainly isn't a good time so she was off but no. I don't know what's worse, her being a two faced cow by trying to strike up a relationship with him after being oh-so-contrite for the ONS, or her being so fucking BANANAS as to think her divorcing-custody battling-exfriend-ONS is about to declare his love for her. I'd understand a 60 year old acting that way but not a millennial. Come on Amy.

BowerOfBramble · 31/03/2022 13:39

Sadly I now think it's pretty likely she'll be back in a few months with a bump, or that Chris will come to realise he Loves Her Too and will go after her in time for Christmas. I think she's dreary and feel v sorry for Martha with her future stepmother.

TottersBlankly · 31/03/2022 14:59

Why would a 60 year old act that way???

Hmm
CaptainMyCaptain · 31/03/2022 15:05

16 maybe?
BowerOfBramble · 31/03/2022 15:13

no I did mean 60 - I think most people I know in that age group would be more likely to assume a night of great sex "meant something" than a 30ish year old. Maybe a 16 year old too though!

I'm well into that age group and I disagree with you.
BowerOfBramble · 31/03/2022 15:34

well I'm glad to hear it!

TottersBlankly · 31/03/2022 15:51

I’m frankly astonished at your comment, BowerOfBramble.

But this isn’t the place to express just how much.

WhoppingBigBackside · 31/03/2022 15:52

I'm im my 50s and can remember being in similar situations about 20 yrs or so ago.

Whopping and Friend hang out, friend realises that Whop isd ok and is actually female and single and decides to ake a move

Or Whopping and ex-Colleague hang out, Whop & Colleague have a booze-fuelled snog. Colleague tells Whop he loves her, and again a few months later cries down the phone that he can't get over her

Kristifer and Aimless have been close for a few months so it's not just a ONS

Roysnewshirt · 31/03/2022 16:17

Silly Amy! Surely the quickest way to get Chris to pursue her to Nottingham would have been to say she wasn’t interested in him and it had all been a big mistake…

WhoppingBigBackside · 31/03/2022 16:41

The 'fallen in love with you' is like a bucket of cold water or in this case, a bucket of tepid porridge
