Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you warm to Hazel Woolley, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LiterallyKnowsBest for the thread title idea. I also liked @LillianGish's suggestion which was Conversions abound and it’s not just Harrison - Lily’s kitchens, Hazel’s flat, Jazzer’s finances, Bert’s bungalow...come and discuss The Archers - are you a convert or could you be converted? and that seems like a good place to kick off this thread.

Who'll get the bungalow? Pip, Josh or A. N. Other?

Will Lily leave the cold calling behind and launch a bid to run LL when Elizabeth hangs up her clipboard?

Will Jazzer become a financial whiz after mastering Tracy's state of the art budgeting techniques, viz, writing it all down in a little notebook with a kitten on the front?

Over to you!

I’m really finding it quite yukky this switching between quarrelling to best mates of Pip and Josh. I wish they’d go away and let us hear more from Ben. And Jill’s jealousy is quite ridiculous. If you cant trust in a conversation your partner of two years, then you haven’t got a relationship that’s worth worrying about

BeardieWeirdie · 25/01/2022 19:42

Jill being ludicrously jealous over the ghost of Grace Archer was bad enough the first time around.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/01/2022 20:29

And Heatherpet too. She was jealous of her as well. Thought she was making a move on Phil. Something to do with marmalade iirc?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/01/2022 21:07

Tulse Hill (we know each other on another board) has asked me to let people here know that she was sorely disappointed to discover that Ruth is not soluble.

If someone walked into my house and were as objectionable and rude as Iris was, not to mention practically sitting on another guest's lap and monopolising them, I'd be pissed off with her, no jealousy necessary.

Why did David not enter the conversation at that point and draw the cow's teeth?

Roysnewshirt · 25/01/2022 21:47

How utterly graceless Pip is. She displayed no gratitude to Josh for picking up her child from nursery. Why on earth did she not enlist the child’s father or uncle Rex to help given how stretched she knows Josh is with his hens.

Leonard is nice to everyone and is one of those rare people who knows exactly how to put others at ease. Jill is going to have to get used to sharing him if their relationship is to have any future.

We were told on air that both Rex and Toby are not in Ambridge at the moment. Also that Ed and Eddie are both too busy to help at Brookfield. These were the reasons given by her parents for Poor Pip having to do her job.

(What I want to know is, if Rex has gone on a jolly, who is feeding his pigs? Lily?)

KimikosNightmare · 25/01/2022 22:22

Just catching up. Fast forwarded the 24th in about 15 seconds. What a bore.

25th so far not much better.

BeaLola · 26/01/2022 01:00

Gosh Jill wants it all ways - she wants to be Leonard's "friend" but didn't want moving in etc but equally he can't be polite and kind to another woman who has started talking to him about bonsai

Jill - she is acting like Vincents Mum came in fluttered her eyelashes at him and was propositioning him (& perhaps Mrs Casey senior was charmed by a older but elegant easy on the eye gent )

Leonard - lovely chap , decent and kind to all and loving be part of the "family" wouldn't recognise anyone propositioning him - he was just being kind .... one of the many reasons Jill that you like him... a lot & let's be frank his many men neatly your age are there ???

DePfeffoff · 26/01/2022 01:49

How many "single" parents have the luck of living with not only the father of the child but also 5 other adult relatives, most of whom are based at home? You'd think she was stuck up living in a tower block full of rats having to commute to 3 jobs scrubbing sewers with her own toothbrush the way she goes on

She only actually lives with Tobee, doesn't she? Though the other adults are very close by.

She clearly isn't a Mumsnetter, otherwise she'd never have left her 3 year old sleeping alone in the cottage whilst she got on with the infinitely more important business of making ineffective efforts to sort out the drains, and of course moaning at Josh.

LovedayCL · 26/01/2022 04:47

I think today might have been the most boring episode of all I’ve listened to, the sound effects of Ruth and David moaning and groaning followed by Pip and Josh’s weird Rosie wrestling descriptions and noises… ergh no thanks. It actually made me cringe.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/01/2022 09:24

The last time Susan Jameson turned up I was amazed to discover she's a Brummie (or from the West Midlands, anyway) as I knew her mainly from When the Boat Comes In in the 1970s when she had a Geordie accent. She's laying her original accent on with a trowel now, though.

Jill should be worried now that Leonard has met someone who has interests beyond the four walls she lives in and the cake and chicken soup recipes she’s been making for 70 years.

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2022 11:17

Saw someone say last night was boring. I couldn’t even remember if I’d listened. Turned out I hadn’t. Have now and honestly don’t remember much at all ! (Just listened 10 mins ago ffs).

Poppins2016 · 26/01/2022 12:14

I wonder whether Jill's jealousy will prompt her 'just friends' relationship with Leonard to become (or be labelled) something more... perhaps they might even decide to live under the same roof and/or consider marriage after all (I remember Jill saying she wasn't interested at one point, but I wonder whether things might change).

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2022 12:20

Respect to her maj Jill - about whom I did not mean to be rude, in previous post.

SparklingLime · 26/01/2022 19:29

All this ‘once a Casey, always a Casey’ stuff is very irritating. An attempt to be a salt of the earth/tell it like it is/larger than life family so lacking in nuance or believability.

EezyOozy · 26/01/2022 20:29

I've just caught up after a few days not listening; concerned about what tomorrow will bring for Jill!

EezyOozy · 26/01/2022 20:30

Ruth!! Not Jill. Sorry, sleep deprivation !!

(I think Ruth might not wake up?) 😬

echt · 26/01/2022 20:43

Well, I've just been googling fatigue after a car crash, and it's normal for a few days, but if it goes on it could be a sign of something more serious. Didn't Ruth get a wallop from an airbag?

EezyOozy · 26/01/2022 20:46

Yes I recall her saying she felt like the airbag "punched her in the face". I really hope I am wrong… It was just the way that they seemed to have set it up, kept mentioning how tired she was, then they were all playing downstairs and nobody was checking on her…

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2022 21:07

Oo er ! Not on a Thurs night surely? Oh hang on Thursday is still Friday for the archers. Hmmm

KimikosNightmare · 26/01/2022 21:54

Are we spending the whole week at Brookfield?

What a dull bunch.

Oh and I really don't care if Ruth is dedded.

KimikosNightmare · 26/01/2022 21:56

Well that was dull.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/01/2022 22:27

Can we hope for a repeat of the storyline in which Brian was kicked by the Grundy mad cow, concussed, and then suffering a brain tumour? Only this time it not spotted until it is Too Late because unlike Brian, Ruth hasn't been kept in hospital.
