Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you long to hear Pip again, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish and @PersephonePromotesEquanimity for the title suggestions.

Current events: as @Bailey0703 has astutely spotted, it's Anti-Slavery Day tomorrow - could this herald the beginning of the end of the horses storyline? I do hope so. Horrible stuff, but what a blow for Kirsty. They're laying on the dramatic irony with trowel at the moment.

What do we think will happen to Alice and Chris? I can't see this pregnancy going to term and ending well. Sad I don't think the marriage will survive either, giving Brian a chance to revisit his classic line about having to treat this as Alice's starter marriage. Grin

Will Elizabeth end up on a date with Vince Casey? That would put the cat among the pigeons at Lower Loxley.

Over to you ...

So what he is making is compound gin rather than gin, Chemenger? That can take as little as four days, I seem to remember. I wonder why his was undrinkably young (according to both him and Pip) after five days. Maybe he just used a horrible combination of botanicals on that first try.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/11/2020 19:15

Come the zombie apocalypse my barterable skill will be making gin

You'd get my vote Gin

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 19:22

Will you be in charge of the Brew, by any chance, C8H10N4O2 ?

C8H10N4O2 · 01/11/2020 19:26

Always Errol, always.

The holy molecule. Grin

Hi, long term lurker, rare poster here.
I, like others, tuned out during the monologue phase, and even stopped reading these threads.

Can someone please tell me what happened to Russ?

Lily must have ditched him or he would be all over muscling in on the Xmas show (although he seems to have taught her well...).

But what happened? Did he jump or was he pushed? Did she see the light?

Thanks!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/11/2020 19:41

He's still there as far as we know. He was mentioned the other day, I forget what to do with.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 19:41

I think he's still around, Lily mentioned something or another arty he was doing at LL, and Lynda mentioned him in the context of not being someone to direct the Xmas show.

bumpertobumper · 01/11/2020 19:43

Oh dear, there was me getting my hopes up.
Oh well,
Thanks!

StillWeRise · 01/11/2020 19:58

Brian Aldridge is narrating a documentary about beef cattle!!!!
Mind. Blown.

Is that the one on channel 5? I didn't realise it was him. My husband came back from the pub and said 'What on earth are you watching?'. I thought it was interesting.
StillWeRise · 01/11/2020 20:21

BBC 4
it is interesting, you're right
interesting to see the family likenesses with the old films

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/11/2020 20:37

Sorry, it was bbc4. Interesting to see how the breeds have changed and how some older ideas have come back into favour.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/11/2020 22:00

And we know it wasn't fly tippers or cattle rustlers because the cattle were there and junk wasn't. Yeah, I meant possibly cattle rustlers and fly tippers who would need to break the lock, not that it was them did break the lock.

I haven't yet come across a gate that isn't get-overable. Except for those that are made out of a single solid plate of steel so no footholds, and I doubt whether Ruth and David run to those.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 22:23

There are gates with barbed wire, and ones which are too rickety to climb - I doubt if D&R would have ones like that either though.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 03/11/2020 06:55

Halloween Biscuit For the SWs - who evidently produced an episode so dull that not a single person in the MN TA universe considered it worthy of comment!

I vaguely recall Johnny sounding a bit fed up with Lily. And Eddie and ... erm ... Will, and the mention of detectorists (but not Detectorists, sadly).

Maybe TA is just not standing up to real life at the moment?

Brew and early Cake for everyone ...

Roysnewshirt · 03/11/2020 08:39

Annoying characters and lousy writing. We obviously have been spoilt the last few weeks with tales of Alice and the pickled chrysalis and speculating on the merits of VC in the bedroom. When TAs is bad, it’s dreadful and makes me remember why I didn’t used to listen full-time.

C8H10N4O2 · 03/11/2020 08:43

They could have used that in the one line summaries in the schedule. Its spot on.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/11/2020 08:51

Lily asked Johnnie to suggest ideas for the Christmas show to Freddie but not let on that they were Lily's ideas. L told J that the trustees were scrutinising everything F does, but not to tell F. (Really?)

Freddie cottoned on immediately but didn't say so. He presented Lily's idea to his mother and (oddly) the Chair of the Trustees - maybe we're supposed to believe Elizabeth rang him immediately and he stopped everything else to talk through the LL Christmas show plans with her Hmm - and they were both delighted. L and J amazed when he revealed he had seen through their ruse.

Meanwhile, Eddie and Will were trying to find buried treasure on Brookfield land without permission. It emerges that Will has been making ends meet by delivering for BridgeFresh. (Did we know this before? If so, I'd forgotten.) Eddie spotted some other trespassers and warned them off. He then felt duty bound to tell Ruth but didn't of course say why he was there.

All very ho hum, really.

There are gates with barbed wire, and ones which are too rickety to climb - I doubt if D&R would have ones like that either though. Barbed wire can be easily sorted, DH carries a length of pipe insulation wrapped round his walking pole - perfect for putting over barbed wire. Hasten to add - he's not a detectorist, it's for safe getting over stiles where the anti-sheep barbed wire hasn't been removed for the length of the stile.

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/11/2020 10:10

Thanks Gaspode. You know, I knew all that, but thought I had missed most of the episode. You know that feeling? - you end the episode unable to remember anything that happened, and just assume that it must have all happened in those minutes when your mind was elsewhere.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/11/2020 12:39

Oh yes, that's a very familiar feeling!

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/11/2020 13:05

I was astounded that Elizabeth had told Lily.

It didn't seem all that dull, but was very cringe-making.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/11/2020 13:46

Yes, that was odd. I think we can take it as read that Russ knows too. At this rate everyone in Borsetshire will know before Freddie.

Lady in Red, what a great song that was. Coming up, Hello! from Lionel Richie - but first, I'd just like to take a moment to send warmest wishes to a young acquaintance of mine, who's not always made the best choices in life - but he's paid the price and he's done a lot of growing up in the last couple of years, I'm pleased to say. He was quite the hero in a very dangerous situation back in the spring! But now I hear certain people are querying whether he's up to, um, something I can't really go into here. Well, what I say is, Go Fr - ankie! You'll show those old stuffed shirt trustees a thing or two.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/11/2020 16:33

Glen isn't the chair of the trustees, Gasp0de; he's the manager who was hired in to run LL when Elizabeth had her breakdown. So it's all good there and no need for frantic telephoning.

The chair of the absentees I mean the trustees (well, when the place was rapidly going down the pan and nobody was bothering to get their alcohol licence back the trustees were conspicuously absent) was called Bernard Lyons.

I think Freddie saw through the "ruse" because Lily had been hammering away at him for weeks with an identical scheme, right down to how she pronounces ambiance and so Johnny did too.

And I think William and Eddie delivering for Bridge Fresh was mentioned when someone or other was wanting a job a couple of months ago.
