Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you long to hear Pip again, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish and @PersephonePromotesEquanimity for the title suggestions.

Current events: as @Bailey0703 has astutely spotted, it's Anti-Slavery Day tomorrow - could this herald the beginning of the end of the horses storyline? I do hope so. Horrible stuff, but what a blow for Kirsty. They're laying on the dramatic irony with trowel at the moment.

What do we think will happen to Alice and Chris? I can't see this pregnancy going to term and ending well. Sad I don't think the marriage will survive either, giving Brian a chance to revisit his classic line about having to treat this as Alice's starter marriage. Grin

Will Elizabeth end up on a date with Vince Casey? That would put the cat among the pigeons at Lower Loxley.

Over to you ...

@MissEWeatherwax

I listened to that, I knew I recognised the voice. I think Alice should have a termination, then bloody get divorced.
And then leave Ambridge.
EBearhug · 29/10/2020 19:15

Go Rex!

BeardieWeirdie · 29/10/2020 19:16

Go Rex!

Darker · 29/10/2020 19:17

Rex! Rex! Rex!

Choccyp1g · 29/10/2020 19:18

So Rex took over Neil's pigs, which used to live on Neil's land, which is now lying empty...

Madcats · 29/10/2020 19:24

Choccyp1g that's a bit like Ben buying a chicken business and not asking to lease that land?

We have a couple of successful gin businesses near us. They really don't take up too much space.

Darker · 29/10/2020 19:26

I think there are bio-security issues with the pigs being on Neils land?

Choccyp1g · 29/10/2020 19:28

Ah yes, Darker, I'd forgotten that Neil works with other pigs.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/10/2020 19:37

Whereas putting the weaners onto non-soul-association-certified Hollowtree, when their organic status relied on Willow Farm being SA approved, was nothing to worry about. That's right.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/10/2020 19:37

If I didn't already loathe and despise Pip that bout of whining and blaming Josh would finish her off for me. Whining and blaming Josh when its her herd increases needing the land Josh had been promised.

I did love Toby immediately twig the reality of the situation. Its a shame Rex was still so starry eyed about her.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/10/2020 19:39

I think there are bio-security issues with the pigs being on Neils land?

Yes, because Neil works with another pig unit.

Are the pigs still oganic? Because I can't imagine there is too much ready certified land available in the locality.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/10/2020 19:39

Rex has been disillusioned by her before; this time, with them both being involved in the re-wilding, it's likely to be messier. And I hope he will stay solidly angry, because that is what the hypocritical little wossit deserves.

They haven't been since the move to Hollowtree, which unlike Willow Farm doesn't have Soil Association certification.

For some reason this didn't bother Tom in the slightest, and more surprisingly also didn't bother Pat and Tony.

R4 · 29/10/2020 21:53

I think that Tom gave up on being proper certified organic. Isn't he now organic-lite? Is it called welfare-friendly?

Do you think that the FairBro will wind up their businesses and leave Ambridge? That would serve Pip right: she would lose her part-time unpaid nanny and probably say goodbye to her child maintenance too.
Oooh, the fallout could be good. Because David rats on his rental agreement, Toby folds the still and therefore Kenton loses his investment in Scruff.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/10/2020 22:11

Cats in a sack, the lot of them.

Roysnewshirt · 29/10/2020 22:17

I have no idea about leases on agricultural land and what the average notice period is. Surely the boys can’t be on the kind of lease that gives tenants just a month or two of notice? It must take ages to find a suitable alternative plot of land.

Pip likes to be thought of as an independent woman when it suits her but seems very quick to hide behind Ruth’s skirts on this one. She’s such a spineless snake.

EBearhug · 29/10/2020 22:30

Agricultural rents were traditionally paid on each quarter day, but I have no idea if that's still the case.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/10/2020 23:11

I remember P&T being very upset that Tom went to the faux-organic-lite model for his sausages at Ambridge Farm. For some reason I thought Neil's weaners had stayed organic so he could sell to other organic farmers.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/10/2020 07:27

I loathe Pip. That is all.

OP posts:
Chemenger · 30/10/2020 09:12

Pip really showed her true colours, didn’t she? Good for Rex for telling it to her how it is.

CheetasOnFajitas · 30/10/2020 09:33

What a two faced little snake she was, suggesting to area to save face that she had been against it. She is loathsome. I actually thought that Toby was also calling her out on her self-interest but in a passive aggressive way, and she failed to notice.
Sadly I feel that the very end of the Pip-Rex conversation was moving towards the old cliche of him backing down and apologising for overreacting. I really really hope he doesn’t, and the Brethren both continue to treat her with the contempt she deserves.

Ruth was also vile yesterday shouting at the motorists who very reasonably wanted to continue in their way as soon as she got her cows out of the road.

CheetasOnFajitas · 30/10/2020 09:34

“To area”= to Rex.

Taswama · 30/10/2020 09:58

I think Toby understands Pip much better than Rex does. They are quite similar in many wats.
