Thanks to witchmountain for the last thread and to dadx3 for Godfathering them! Also to any other posters whose ideas I have borrowed for the title.

I am amazed that none of the oldies, apart from Christine, seem to have any health problems, rheumatoid conditions, angina, Parkinson’s, Joe would surely have oxygen cylinders by his bed by now, no diabetics, heart bypass, even cataracts are never mentioned.

even cataracts are never mentioned

Jill had cataracts removed a few years ago. Can't think of any others who have mentioned it.

I always assumed they keep the older characters until they either die or want to retire.

If he got something going with Lily, maybe in five years when she's more mature, that will be the moment that Pip suddenly realises she wants him.

Yes I've been wondering if they were re-running the Nigel storyline (he originally went for Shula but ended up with Lizzie) but with the bonus feature of Pip's possessiveness over Rex.

witchmountain · 02/12/2018 12:59

Kirsty, Tom and Brenda were all born in 1981, so 37. Roy is about three years older and turned 40 in February this year. The BBC site makes no mention of Jazzer's date of birth but Wikipedia says he was born in 1984, so 34. Fallon is a year younger again.

Apart from Ruth I don’t think we’ve had cancer have we?

Abra1de · 02/12/2018 13:38

Didn’t Sid’s first wife die of cancer?

EBearhug · 02/12/2018 13:40

No, Pollo Perks was killed in a car crash.

Didn't Caroline die of cancer ? Or was it the actress? Oh dear !

OP posts:
Bittermints · 02/12/2018 14:08

It was the actress who had cancer. Caroline's death was very sudden - heart attack? That was how they killed off Betty Tucker, Roy's mum, after the actress retired to New Zealand.

Ruth is the only speaking character I can recall ever having cancer, but there was a silent character, Mrs Barraclough, who died of cancer and left Richard Locke some money in her will. Her son took exception to this and complained to the GMC about Doc Locke, who got a rebuke over his record-keeping around morphia, IIRC.

I wonder why they bothered bringing Richard back the other year. Wasted opportunity. Maybe they realised he sounded confusingly like Harrison. As far as we know he's still living locally. I wonder if he might re-appear under the new Editor.

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 02/12/2018 14:33

I think Margery Antrobus may have had an operation for cataracts too? Early 1990's I'm guessing.

ppeatfruit · 02/12/2018 14:35

Bitter Do you keep records (or you an archivist?)

lottie I apologise I was mean, it's not like me. But I get a lot of criticism for my laissez faire attitude about sexual equality, or not, on here!

But Elizabeth where do you lie on the like/not like question regarding Pup and Shula? And reported.

chemenger · 02/12/2018 15:24

Beaten to the report I see!

BitOutOfPractice · 02/12/2018 15:29

You get no criticism at all ppeatfruit.and what you call a Laissez faire attitude I have called disgraceful victim blaming. But hey there you go. I just leave the thread for months at a time because I really can't be bothered to argue with you and the other long standing folk on this thread who have expressed similar views. It seems that certain posters are beyond reproach. Which is a shame for a thread which I use as a bit of light relief from everyday life.

5000FingersofDrT · 02/12/2018 15:35

Siobhan (mother of Ruairi) died of cancer, didn't she?

Bittermints · 02/12/2018 16:41

I don't keep records, ppeatfruit, and as 5000Fingers has just shown my memory is very patchy! How could I have forgotten Siobhan.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/12/2018 16:59

I'm struggling to remember what Betty Tucker died of. Can anyone help?

MerdedeBrexit · 02/12/2018 17:07

Heart attack, wasn't it, BOOP?

MerdedeBrexit · 02/12/2018 17:09

Yes, here's an article from the time, coming up to 13 years already:

R4 · 02/12/2018 18:39

Oi, you lot! How come nobody told me that tickets for the Academic Archers 2019 conference were on sale. Where's Gruach when you need her.
It is being held later this year, it's not the usual Feb half-term. It is being held at the end of term on new years day (that's April 6th to you non-Accountants).
Eventbrite

MerdedeBrexit · 02/12/2018 19:29

Interesting list of contributors and subjects! Which reminds me, didn't a Mumsnetter or two contribute to this a couple of years ago? Are they still here (I am thinking CeciledeVolanges and perhaps someone else, but may be imagining it completely)?

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/12/2018 20:25

The lovely OliviaMumsnet delivered a session in 2017

Bekabeech · 02/12/2018 20:26

Olivia is giving a paper followed by me. I need to actually write it soon.
