Thanks to witchmountain for the last thread and to dadx3 for Godfathering them! Also to any other posters whose ideas I have borrowed for the title.

Shucks.... Well I'm up for the task in that case. Just need to swot up on the technicalities of doing it.

DadDadDad · 29/11/2018 09:42

It's an anarchy democracy here, so I have no special approval on titles. The rule I suggested was that the thread-starter nominates the next starter. Obviously, that person can choose the title however they wish, but anyone can suggest one.

DadDadDad · 29/11/2018 09:48

Notdead - we need to kill the myth that there are any technicalities to starting a thread.

Somewhere on your screen there should be an option or link to "Start new thread" (in this topic). Click that, fill in the title, write a post, then click "Create...".

If you don't know how to link to it on the current thread, someone else can do that.

Anyway, this thread's got another week to go, so plenty of time...

NotdeadyetBOING · 29/11/2018 09:59

Thanks Dx3. It's only the linking bit I'm unsure of, but can't be beyond me to work it out (she says firmly to herself).

In the meantime - we need to hear from Alice. The Christmas drinks season is about to rev up....

witchmountain · 29/11/2018 10:10

If you don't know how to link to it on the current thread

I think you'll find the correct term is 'if you don't know how to activate the text'. Which does appear to be quite difficult on the app. In a browser you just copy the url of the new thread, go back to the old thread and paste it into a message. Archers symbols optional.

Some other myths we need to kill:
That other posters will be cross if you mistakenly create it in the wrong topic - we would just ask Mumsnet to move it
That you have to be a genius title writer - nope - the priority is having a thread and if you look back over PseudoBadger's illustrious history of thread-starting, not every thread title was a marvellous kaleidoscope of puns.
That if someone offers you a title you have have to do some final editing to make it even more marvellous - nope, as above, all anyone really wants is a thread to post on.
That you have to be hovering over your keyboard when the perfect number of posts is reached - nope, I think I declared that I was happy to start a thread but I might have to do it early to avoid the current thread filling up before I got back to mumsnet

Frankly, even if it was just called, The Archers, possibly mis-spelled, and posted in the Etiquette topic, we'd all just be delighted that someone had made a lovely new thread Halloween Smile

Notdead I had exactly the same thought about Alice yesterday!

Bittermints · 29/11/2018 10:21

Grin Well said, witchmountain. I'm happy to start a new thread any time everyone is busy.

Fink · 29/11/2018 10:24

Not just Alice, it was only because Roy talked about her yesterday that I realised Kate was still hanging around. Having brought back Ben and Ruairi, maybe the SWs could gradually reintroduce now silent characters. I would really like to hear how Kathy's getting on. And Kirsty. Will's kids. Ian hasn't been heard in a while.

I agree, witchmountain, a thread's a thread and I'd be very grateful no matter what it was called or was topic it was in.

NotdeadyetBOING · 29/11/2018 10:25

Many thanks, Witchmountain. Some excellent myth crushing. I am particularly pleased I don't need to be hovering over my keyboard in the dead of night to do it bang on 1,000 posts.

Cromercrab · 29/11/2018 13:02

My husband, bless him, has just ordered some Le Creuset omelette pans. He's a snob for that stuff. Best tip I ever got from Mumsnet recommends - Sainsbury's cast-iron casseroles. One third of the price, just as nice-looking, excellent performance, bearing up as well as the Le Creuset stuff. Buy Sainsbury's, people! and spend the difference on - well, I bought flights to Madrid, but you know, whatever floats your boat.

Swannykazoo · 29/11/2018 13:05

Why are they bringing Lexie back for her to not want to be there. Pointless. She should have just not returned. Dull dull dull

grumiosmum · 29/11/2018 13:09

Surely the solution for Roy & Lexi is to get married - she can then bring her daughters over to the UK where they will get a better education etc.

Or have I missed a bit where that option's been discussed?

TheEfficientBaxter · 29/11/2018 13:14

The thread title must have a reference to crewel(ty) in there somewhere.

It would be criminal to overlook that joke. It was inspired - and actually made me snigger like Muttley Grin

EBearhug · 29/11/2018 13:19

Or have I missed a bit where that option's been discussed?

Did you hear last night?

TheEfficientBaxter · 29/11/2018 13:33

If anyone remembers I made that suggestion about Roy marrying Lexi weeks ago.

Bittermints · 29/11/2018 13:57

I've got a nice big Le Creuset casserole dish with a lid. It's a lovely green shade and I've had it for decades. Bought it in a sale at John Lewis, I think. I expect it to outlast me. My other big casserole dish that can go on the hob is ceramic. Both so useful. My mum had a similar ceramic hob-to-oven casserole dish in the 70s which was a gift from a South African relative. At the time we'd never seen anything equivalent in the UK but we lived in the sticks. Entirely possible John Lewis and specialist cook shops were selling that kind of thing in London.

Very bored with Lexie and Roy. Just make a decision and get on with it!

grumiosmum · 29/11/2018 14:55

EBearhug wasn't last night's episode all about Roy moving to Bulgaria?

My point is that if he married Lexi, her girls would be able to live over here.

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2018 15:04

Yes it does seem that Kate has taken up residence in one or all of her yurts, and there are no mikes in them.Grin

Oh on R4 Ex. there is now a play by Chaucer (if you're in sniffy Snell mode Grin

EBearhug · 29/11/2018 16:29

wasn't last night's episode all about Roy moving to Bulgaria?

Yes, but Lexie was saying whichever way they did it, at least one lot of girls would have to miss their parent at most of the year, or move them away from the rest of their families, and while Phoebe may be adult now, Abby's only 10. And she doesn't want to move her girls from their home either.

Of course, she could have just said, "puss off, Roy, you're smothering me, and actually, I just didn't miss you that much when I was away. Please accept you're dumped and GO AWAY." But she didn't.

JessieMcJessie · 29/11/2018 17:17

Swannykazoo presumably they are bringing Lexi back so she can carry Adam n Ian’s baby?

grumiosmum · 29/11/2018 17:18

Did she actually say that she didn't want to move her girls to the UK though?

Or just that if she stayed in the UK, she would miss them too much?

(I may be over invested in this plot line. It's more interesting than the bloody panto though)

Miscible · 29/11/2018 17:21

Do we know what's happened about the pollution clean-up? Is it still going on, and if so is it still affecting Kate's business? They're presumably pretty relaxed about Brine paying for it given that the house is still unsold.

Eastpoint · 29/11/2018 17:53

PPeat I’m sorry to burst your bubble but we bought a house with a Lacanche & no one would service it. I sold it for £1K, it could only be used if you wanted to cook things at a hotter temperature than 450F. I had tried to get the thermostats replaced (failed in both ovens) but no one was able to source one for me and I ended up threatening to take a company to the Small Claims Court. I replaced it with a NEFF oven that worked perfectly well for 13 years and a hob. Complete nightmare.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 29/11/2018 19:11

“Don’t be sorry, just be brilliant.”

I am definitely using that in my classroom.

WelshPooch · 29/11/2018 19:23

I'm a lurker and no expert, but does Jazzer's accent approach any known accent from anywhere?

TheEfficientBaxter · 29/11/2018 20:00

I thought Hannah had an early start in the morning, so why get so sozzled that she was rolling about on the green?

I reckon she is inwardly seething about Tom and Natasha, and someone is going to get the backlash. I fear it will be poor innocent Jazzer.

I hope not, though, because I think he's a decent chap with a good heart, under all that macho bluster.
