Thanks to witchmountain for the last thread and to dadx3 for Godfathering them! Also to any other posters whose ideas I have borrowed for the title.

pleat, have you tried listening to More or Less on Radio 4? It's a very interesting look into stats as (mis)represented in the media. If you look at the episodes available as podcasts you can pick out ones you might be interested in.

I really like Freddie, despite disliking most of his actions, just as someone up thread said. Such good acting too. I really couldn't bear him to come to any harm. I'm so glad we haven't heard much from him while he's inside. (Please don't remind me he's not a real person...)

Hannah is just vile - its not tactlessness or thoughtlessness its calculated spite and manipulation to get what she wants and seemingly maximise collateral damage along the way.

Knob did have a veneer of charm, Hannah doesn't even have that.

I wish Charlie would come back - he would see Hannah for what she is very quickly.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/11/2018 22:33

it's a slur on a rigorous discipline. I know there's that old line about "lies, damned lies..." that's unthinkingly trotted out, but that's more about people misinterpreting statistics.

Nothing to add really but felt obliged to speak up for statistics! The fact that people misuse and misreport statistics doesn't render them invalid or useless. We are utterly reliant on statistics to analyse most scientific research into multifactorial problems (which is most of the big issues).

ChampooPapi · 24/11/2018 22:45

@AlecOrAlonzo agreed!

Also I'm thinking perhaps a pregnant Hannah with Tom's baby may be on the horizon?

JessieMcJessie · 24/11/2018 23:09

Surely not when they’ve already done accidental pregnancy when not in a relationship with Tom and Kirsty? (Such a travesty that they chose to give Kirsty an awareness-raising late miscarriage storyline, poor girl really did not deserve that extra misery. Should have been Emma).

Miscible · 24/11/2018 23:19

I don't see how the SWs could not know that Hannah is horrible. Why else would they have written the storyline with her telling deliberate lies both to and about Neil?

jinglebitch · 24/11/2018 23:44

Hi-longtime lurker, pop my head up very occasionally....I have a question; was it not the hunt ball last year where Matt got run over by NickRIP? Did we not have weeks, WEEKS of Smugula angst because she was organising it all? So how come no one else organised it this year and she just popped along at the end for the last minute preparations? (Caveat: I may be totally wrong about this, hence why I'm asking)

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/11/2018 01:47

No you are right. Smugula spent weeks agonising over it. This year it's been organised by Oliver and Lily in an afternoon.

Lower Loxley has no booze and apparently no staff either but it's all gone swimmingly.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/11/2018 01:53

I've said it before but I genuinely don't think the SW know that Hannah is horrible

Well they have no clue how awful Pip is so that is possible.

Or, they do know how awful Pip is but she can't plausibly be killed off or emigrate so they have drafted in Hannah so we can all say "Pip is truly appalling/ selfish/ irritating/ thick but at least she isn't downright malicious like Hannah"

Fink · 25/11/2018 03:38

Surely if they realise what Pip's like now is the ideal time to gradually rewrite her. Being a mother has awakened her long dormant empathy etc. No need to make a fuss, just when she comes up in scenes make her gradually less unpleasant.

Second the love for the More or Less podcast, it's one of my favourites. Although ppeatfruit said upthread that she doesn't do podcasts. It's also available on Listen Again.

5000FingersofDrT · 25/11/2018 09:14

I also can't believe the the SWs don't know that Hannah is a conniving piece of work.

I once had the misfortune to work with someone unnervingly similar to Hannah (apart from the FWB bit, as far as I know, though on reflection who can say what arrangements she had with my colleagues). She prided herself on being 'plain-speaking' and 'forthright', which meant that she felt social conventions didn't apply to her, and she could then be astonishingly unpleasant to everyone because she was just being 'honest'.

It got to the stage where the entire dynamic of a formerly-happy and contented team was upset by this one person, whose moods and dramas became the central focus. She then claimed we were the problem. Even the sound of her voice - that combative, slightly aggressive edge to the most innocuous remarks - seemed subtly threatening.

I've never been so relieved about anything when she announced she was leaving....though heartily sorry for her next lot of victims.

Hannah is so like this person I half-wonder whether one of the SWs has actually met her Confused

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2018 09:28

Agree that Hannah seems to be the new Rob. She's the cuckoo in the nest of house sharers. Grin

Dad we could go on about medicine, at least they're doing less harm with the cancer treatment now, That's taken a very long time, they still don't mention diet as being one of the major causes. It's better to prevent isn't it? One of the worst aspects of stats is the way certain results are often deliberately skewed by Big Pharma if they don't agree with their initial hypothesis.

Me and my partner are fully catching up with the omnibus now, We missed a few episodes this past week so need the full story on all things for later discussion/judgments! will report back later

ChampooPapi · 25/11/2018 10:07

Also can I just say that the past few weeks have been far too lite on Jazza Blush

ChampooPapi · 25/11/2018 10:40

I may be 75, but the old magic is still there

Grin Sorry but thats now the second time I've hear Brian saying this !

ChampooPapi · 25/11/2018 10:41

Does one's mind need to have heard this twice?! I know it'll be going round my head all day now

witchmountain · 25/11/2018 11:18

I’ve just caught up too. I was worried from earlier comments that Tom had used the word ‘easy’ in relation to Hannah, I’m glad to find he didn’t!

cheminotte · 25/11/2018 11:23

I enjoyed Lily apologising to Lizzie. And Lizzie’s “whatever for, darling?” .

ChampooPapi · 25/11/2018 11:36

Yes @witchmountain I didn't hear that episode so from the comments here assumed he did actually say she was 'easy'. However I do hate it when Tom is happy, he's even more smug & self absorbed when things are going well!

ChampooPapi · 25/11/2018 11:41

Maybe the script writers are thinking along on the lines of Hannah and Tom being a match for each other? Deserving each other? Both equally self sastifying. I mean Tom didn't even notice when his own sister was being controlled and abused!

And him not noticing pretty much everything else about anyone else who isn't himself generally. I'm sorry, Tom is just such a no to me !

cheminotte · 25/11/2018 12:16

I have a theory that only one or two children per family are allowed to procreate or it gets too complicated. So at Home Farm only Kate has had dc, at Bridge farm Helen has an heir and a spare so no need for Tom to have dc. Johnny is practically a different generation.

cheminotte · 25/11/2018 12:16

Sorry he IS a different generation!

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2018 13:20

witch The problem with Sunday's edition is that it's not complete, they do miss bits out to make it the requisite 1 hour 13mins.

I don't mind Tom [ducks flames]

I was worried from earlier comments that Tom had used the word ‘easy’ in relation to Hannah, I’m glad to find he didn’t!

I thought he did say the word 'easy' but meant that the relationship was easy going without strings not that she was 'easy' in that way.

MikeUniformMike · 25/11/2018 14:02

I hope Tom has been practising safe sex.
