Archers Thanks to LilG for the title, and DDD for starting the last thread and the tradition of the thread starter nominating the next thread starter Grin

Lurkers are always welcome to unlurk and join in, including asking questions of the many very knowledgeable posters with a long Archers-listening history.

Don't post spoilers based on forthcoming plot synopses that you've read, there's another thread for that (and we'd love to see you over there). Once an episode has aired then it's fair game. Archers

Ooh, ooh! I have a question.

< puts up hand... waits to be noticed... >

Why are David and Ruth nicknamed The Dopeys?

It doesn't seem to derive from anything that I know about them, so could someone tell me, please?

Been meaning to ask ever since I joined MN!

TheEfficientBaxter · 04/11/2018 13:58

Also, did Lily take the twins' shared car to Manchester, or is it still at LL somewhere?

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2018 13:58

Ben sounds posh because he has been stuck in the cupboard with only Radio 4 for company for most of his life.
Have I mentioned that I can't stand Pip?

birdsdestiny · 04/11/2018 15:37

Didn't Lily load up a car to go to uni, I assumed it was hers/ freddies.

Theyprobablywill · 04/11/2018 16:14

Many years ago, on the old BBC message boards it was noted that David was not the sharpest knife in the knife drawer (more of an old butter knife) and the nickname, originally Dopey Dave, stuck.

JessieMcJessie · 04/11/2018 16:24

Yes, I agree that it’s absolutely not fair to fire Geraldine but, as noted above, Elizabeth has form for lashing out and blaming others when shit happens.
I’m glad Lexi is coming back. Really hope that all the talk of flaming torches at Brookfield is not foreshadowing a fire at the Canterbury Tales. Am I imagining it, or didn’t they have a fire once before? (In recent memory I mean, not the one that killed Grace!)

QuaterMiss · 04/11/2018 16:42

The toe-rags who battered Adam and left him in a coma also set fire to a Brookfield barn while Ed and Emma were living in the bungalow. Weren't they in some way connected with HWMNBN?* Dogfighting?? It was all rather melodramatic.

*All my soap vocab is culled from EastEnders circa 1998 ...

**Oooh! - witch - do new rules apply now?

Theyprobablywill · 04/11/2018 16:44

Didn't Clive Horrabin set fire to Aunty CHristine's house.

JessieMcJessie · 04/11/2018 17:09

Ah that’s right Quatermiss . I had totally forgotten Adam’s coma as well!

birdsdestiny · 04/11/2018 17:14

Is he out of it yet?

Theyprobablywill · 04/11/2018 17:15

No, it's serious.

witchmountain · 04/11/2018 17:16

Quater wouldn’t you like to be in charge of the rules next thread? Halloween Grin

I just had to google to remind myself who HWMNBN was, so you can crack on as far as I’m concerned!

OP posts:
QuaterMiss · 04/11/2018 17:21

No thanks! Grin

Was enquiring on behalf of any new people who might ask about him. Though I'd be slightly afraid of lightning bolts even if the rule no longer applies ...

witchmountain · 04/11/2018 17:24

Whose rule was it originally?

OP posts:

No, it’s serious.

To avoid this becoming too cliquey. HWMNBN (he who must not be named) is Darryl, needy carpenter who became Shula's project, but doesn't seem likely to return even if we say his name, so stop sweating over it!

Also, as the young people like to say, birds' comment has won the thread. Star

TheEfficientBaxter · 04/11/2018 18:01

Goodness me, I am learning a lot today.

Didn't know Adam had been in a coma - that must explain why he sounds as he does.

Was he very badly - ahem - damaged?

TheEfficientBaxter · 04/11/2018 18:03

See! I was convinced HWMNBM was Rob.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/11/2018 18:09

I've just listened to the Omnibus. Has Geraldine ever been heard before? I thought she was a Silent Character a la Freda Fry.

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2018 18:35

No HWMNBM was not Rob. It was...

TheEfficientBaxter · 04/11/2018 19:12

An old gas heater?

Oh dear.

LassWiADelicateAir · 04/11/2018 19:13

A reluctant but well deserved Boop for David. Ruth on the other hand is sounding half-witted.

QuaterMiss · 04/11/2018 19:15

RUTH HAS NOTICED BEN.

This is not a drill!

Shock Shock Shock

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2018 19:17

He has got a place on the farm-the cereal cupboard!
