Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

witch - on Russ, we don't know. He said to Lily that there had been an allegation, and some of us picked up on the way it was phrased to suggest the allegation might not be in relation to Lily. It seems very odd that we've not had the storyline resolved on that point. Russ and Lily have disappeared off and we hear no more. Perhaps the SWs are saving the drama for a few weeks' time.

Going after Lily is track record enough.

FiveShelties · 24/09/2018 07:12

MereDint - so sorry to read that. Awful losing a pet Flowers

witchmountain · 24/09/2018 07:43

DDD thanks, I remember the speculation.

Gersemi - not in Lily’s mind - if she’s the only one then it’s becasue they are Meant To Be!

I hope it all goes wrong soon so she can get on with enjoying university. I wonder - if Freddie ends up with some kind of sentence or community service, maybe Lily’s ‘sentence’ with Russ will mirror it.

Minimammoth · 24/09/2018 08:09

I think the Freddie story, is about the transformation of Freddie, hoping he will buckle down and take responsibility, support his mother etc. Will he dob in Ellis though? Or will Ellis remain a sort of ‘Matt’ character who will pop up from time to time and blackmail him or some such.
Will Lily be running home soon, to tell all?

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2018 08:12

Lily's 'sentence' is purely voluntary though witch.

Just listening to Hancock's half hour on 4 EX;, He's describing his fantasy farm with herds of carrots and planting chickens.

QuaterMiss · 24/09/2018 08:42

Please can we have kompromat in the next title?

I worry that Lily (like Lilian before her) may have been banished for the foreseeable future, so they can concentrate on the LL heir. I already miss her.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 24/09/2018 08:52

Grin I too was gripped by The Bodyguard and slightly surprised to hear 'kompromat' bandied around as a word which the audience would understand straight away. I doubt Jed Mercurio would find writing for TA very satisfying. One of his trademark extended scenes would fill half the omnibus and overspill the confines of the 12.5 minute episodes. Pity, though. Roll on, Line of Duty!

If Freddie does get sent down, surely Lily will respond to that? She might not bother if he only gets a suspended sentence or community punishment.

bobbinsand · 24/09/2018 08:55

Hello - I dip in and out of the Archers so can I join you please?

How decent a mother is Elizabeth, do you think? I remember she went into a state of crisis when her husband died. I also remember that she had no control over Freddie even at an early age..." Freddie, don't get on that horse, oh, OK just walk him around the paddock, ok, one little trot, ok, a quick canter, ok just one jump .... oh, you've fallen off and broken your collar bone..."

Why was it Lily who was telling Freddie not to mess around with dealing? Why were there no consequences when the South African girl OD?

I find Freddie very annoying. Am I supposed to? Grin

Gersemi · 24/09/2018 09:09

I usually find Freddie annoying, but very recently he's been showing signs of growing up so maybe that will change.

EBearhug · 24/09/2018 09:37

Russ and Lily have disappeared off and we hear no more. Perhaps the SWs are saving the drama for a few weeks' time.

Didn't Elizabeth mention the investigation is next week or the week after? She was talking to Shula about it. Shula asked if Lily would be back for it, and Elizabeth said she'd be interviewed before the hearing. So we haven’t exactly heard no more.

DadDadDad · 24/09/2018 10:07

Thanks, EBear, I missed that.

I should be more careful before confidently making these assertions, as I don't catch every episode - especially as I am conscious that my posts are shrouded in the green mantle of the OP Blush. Perhaps I should imitate Pseudo and maintain a sphinx-like detachment on these threads...

I though Elizabeth said to Freddie yesterday that the meeting had happened but she still hadn’t heard from Lily about it.

ppeat yes, voluntary - but it could serve the same purpose in terms of teaching her some useful lessons!

witchmountain · 24/09/2018 10:24

I didn’t see the bodyguard, I’m not good at watching TV, but sis anyone catch the any of the Angela Carter stuff at the weekend? I’ve just stared a thread on it but I think it would appeal to some of you.

witchmountain · 24/09/2018 10:24

On R4 I mean.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/09/2018 10:27

The difference between Will on the one hand and Helen on the other is that Will doesn't claim to be fiercely independent, and he doesn't have deluded relatives going along with any such claim

That is exactly what he was doing. He was indignantly insisting he was looking after his own family whilst Clarrie and Emma were looking after his house and kids most of the time. That was also the basis of his outburst when Susan had the temerity to organise the help rota - he didn't need it.

I don't think Helen has ever said she didn't need or appreciate the help with child care from family. She has paid for childcare in the past and would be able to do so again if she had no family around.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/09/2018 10:30

There have been a number of scenes where he has asked her to just check the figures or look over this to see I have got it right and so on.

Neil is generally a nice person - to his own detriment sometimes. I regularly ask junior managers to check over plans/figures because it helps them to learn. That is part of training up managers surely?

I'm not as nice as Neil so I don't ask them to check I have it right but I do say to call out anything they think can be improved/is in error. Its my second set of eyes. None of that means they are ready to do my job or that I can't do it.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/09/2018 10:31

I find Freddie very annoying. Am I supposed to?

The real test is how do you feel about Pip?

QuaterMiss · 24/09/2018 10:32

That’s good to know witch. I’d pencilled in a lovely weekend of Angela Carter - but circs led me to a house with a TV. (Usually I feel all discomposed when my radio timetable is disrupted - but it was worth it yesterday!)

Will catch up on your thread once I’ve listened.

campion · 24/09/2018 11:25

Freddie is his father's son bobbinsand
Not the brightest, doesn't think things through and slightly gullible.

Elizabeth was the making of Nigel and should be credited with making LL a successful business too.

She's done her best with F and L - she's not responsible for their bad choices. They are.

QuaterMiss · 24/09/2018 11:39

Oh, I don’t know campion. If a child gets stellar GCSEs we praise their parents (Unless they’ve actively worked against education). I think it’s fair that teenagers bad choices are also laid partly at their parents’ door.

Personally I’d say pretty much every decision I made until my late 30s was heavily influenced by my upbringing - even though I was no longer regularly asking for advice.

bobbinsand · 24/09/2018 11:50

Re: Pip -I don't mind her too much but I think she takes people for granted.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about Elizabeth forgetting to ask Lily what her A Level results were!

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/09/2018 11:59

Thanks everyone for the flowers. It does help.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/09/2018 12:00

I think it’s fair that teenagers bad choices are also laid partly at their parents’ door. As a parent, I spend enough sleepless nights thinking "where did I go wrong" without having the rest of the world blaming me too.

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2018 12:09

Ref. childcare Some women (a lot of women Grin ) tend to view motherhood with rose tinted glasses, for some reason they are often the single ones who say they'll be able to manage alone.

TA SWs are no different; Helen thought she could live alone above the village shop when she was pgnt with Henry, she found reality bit her on the bum and went back to mum's.! She's lucky to have her family nearby. Pip was a bit less in cloud cuckoo land but still reckons she can organise things while bf. which can't be easy on a farm. I suppose she could put Rosie in a sling.
