Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

I lurk more than post these days, but just had to say scrambled eggs!

glamorousgrandmother · 13/10/2018 08:40

Lillian definitely said there wasn't a downstairs loo at all. I would have thought that if Peggy has the money to pay for it a stair lift and grab rails wouldn't take too long to install. There should also be some sort of re-hab unit around somewhere if Christine really needs it. My Dad went into one for 6 weeks when he broke his hip so badly it couldn't be operated on. He came home to a house with no downstairs loo although he did have a stair lift. After his first broken hip, and two knee replacements they made sure he could manage steps before he left hospital which was only a few days then he could go home.

But hey-ho it's just a plot device to uncover the fact hat she blew all her money on a dodgy investment.

Volant · 13/10/2018 08:47

R4, Lillian had a row with Justin the other day about his potential plans for Home Farm if BL/Damara buy it.

R4 · 13/10/2018 08:49

That's true Volant. She stormed off from a lunch date. So they haven't made up since then ...

LillianGish · 13/10/2018 08:55

How much money does Peggy actually have? She's going to bail out Brian and pay Aunty Carboard's care home fees after doing the same for Jick for years. After his death Hazel swept in and took the lot (whatever happened to that story??) Is this storyline going to finally clean her out or does she have a magic money tree in her garden and if so why has she never entered it for a prize at the Ambridge Flower and Produce Show?

BertrandRussell · 13/10/2018 14:15

Yes-what happened about Hazel and the shop? Oh, and who lives in the flat over the shop now?

MapleLeafRag · 13/10/2018 17:37

...and didn't Dr Locke move into the Grundys old rented cottage (Keepers cottage) that Hazel had renovated?

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2018 18:16

I noted that Justin called Peg's place "A small cottage" I didn't imagine it as such. Or perhaps anything with less than 7 bedrooms is a cottage to him!

DadDadDad · 14/10/2018 14:56

It's very quiet on this thread. Where is everyone? All puzzling over my crossword clue, I presume. Hmm

I'll give you one hint: "Cole's fifth" is just a way of saying the letter S.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 14/10/2018 15:02

Yes I thought my observation was quite interesting but obviously not! DaD

I'm finding learning french enough of a challenge without learning cryptic codes Grin Thanks anyway.

TeenTimesTwo · 14/10/2018 15:33

I'm not into cryptic crosswords.

But does anyone else think that Josh isn't being entirely altruistic letting Johnny help with the milking?

I forsee him training Johnny then unilaterally subcontracting milking to Johnny so he doesn't have to bother over the winter or something.

Peartree17 · 14/10/2018 15:55

Why is Cole's fifth a way of saying 'S'? Even the the codes are impenetrable to me!

I've been enjoying the encounters this week - seems to me the scriptwriters have been on form. Brian's been dishing it out, so good to hear him receiving it from Adam on Friday. I think Elizabeth should have appealed to Jenny and Brian's latent fellow-feeling - they've all experienced the shock, rage, anxiety and helplessness of a child doing something dangerous/stupid/illegal. And I wonder why they thought it appropriate to storm around to LL to confront Elizabeth - it was hardly her fault that Noli took the pill that Freddie supplied.

DadDadDad · 14/10/2018 16:13

It’s just the fifth letter of COLES.

I suppose Elizabeth was the one person that they could vent their anger at, and the particular angle there was blaming E for not telling them at the time. As someone else I think commented, we don’t know if they also attacked Kate for not telling them before.

Minimammoth · 14/10/2018 16:21

I have quite enjoyed the family interactions this week, hearing that the cousins are in communication. Freddy showing nouse in his situation, and keeping his head down.

R4 · 14/10/2018 18:33

The answer to the cryptic crossword is:
Gus Schlery, the silent character who put on the rival to Loxfest this year.

Whaddya mean I made all that up. It fits the clue, that'll do me.
You will put us out of our misery, won't you, D^3. pretty please.

DadDadDad · 14/10/2018 20:08

Next hint: there's no anagram, the answer is in AUGUST HEAR CHERYL (then add the S).

OP posts:
R4 · 14/10/2018 20:36

D'oh. Geddit now. I was trying to be too complicated.

DadDadDad · 14/10/2018 22:15

For those still interested:

augus T HE AR CHER yl + S

to give the name of a radio show you might have heard of. Grin

it was hardly her fault that Noli took the pill that Freddie supplied.

It wasn't entirely Freddie's fault, either, in this case - he told her not to take the whole pill.

I'm not sure Kate's parents are on any position to criticise other people's parenting.

Volant · 14/10/2018 23:34

I know Elizabeth's desperate, but I struggle to think she is so deaf to reason as to believe that all those solicitors who say there are no appeal grounds must be wrong. Some at least must have spelt out to her why. So I guess at some point it will either sink in or she will have exhausted all options in the legal profession, and she will have an almighty crash.

C8H10N4O2 · 14/10/2018 23:34

he told her not to take the whole pill

He handed it over to a distressed unhappy teenager but its ok because he told her to take half??

No Freddie was dealing drugs and what happened to Noli was a consequence of that. He got off relatively lightly compared to sentencing guidelines. YOIs may be horrible and I'd agree with anyone who says they should be better but for what he did he was not harshly punished.

If it had been a Grundy or a Horrobin dealing to Freddie then the Archer clan would have been calling for the death penalty - as per Fallon's comments.

I don't think you can blame Jennifer for all Kate's shortcomings. She also raised three children who have done well (Alice's personality transplant into raging alcoholic and out again was an aberration of the LSWs) and a fifth showing no signs of "Kateness". Brian did bugger all raising any of them.

C8H10N4O2 · 14/10/2018 23:36

Yes I'm struggling to find that credible. I'm assuming we are being set up for Geraldine quitting and LL going into disaster mode. Perhaps BL will buy LL as well and they can all go on the wait list for social housing.

Minimammoth · 15/10/2018 03:15

BL to buy up everything and turn Ambridge into a shopping/ holiday resort. I hate Justin Elliott, the Trump of Ambridge.

impostersyndrome · 15/10/2018 03:48

That scene between Burt and Lizzie was one of the weakest after an excellent week of writing. Yet again they used that device of one character saying something important and the other simply not listening, but talking over them instead. It simply isn’t like anyone converses in real life.

And yes, she’s not listening either to the plethora of legal aid lawyers she’s contacted. That’s a bit more believable.

Volant · 15/10/2018 07:30

They aren't legal aid lawyers, are they? Clearly the mythical NWNF lawyers aren't, and at one point she was talking about contacting more upmarket London lawyers than Usha. Either way, it sounds as if they know what they're talking about.
