Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

No-one answered my question up-thread of what happens to the LL license once Freddy is out of prison? Can you get an alcohol license with a convicted drugs dealer living on the premises? Can a convicted drugs dealer get a license?

DadDadDad · 12/10/2018 15:23

I assume that the licensing is not black and white, which is why Elizabeth tried to appeal before to get the suspension lifted. I guess anyone on the licensing authority has to come to a judgement on whether there's a risk that in the future drugs might be dealt on licensed premises. It's probably the easier route to just say no (!) and refuse a license if there's a convicted dealer living there.

Maybe Lizzie should go back now and explain that the convicted drug dealer is living 200 miles from the premises for the next 12 months, so surely it's safe to give back the license? Hmm

Having read up on The Licensing Act 2003, the licensing authority must promote the four objectives:

(a) the prevention of crime and disorder;
(b) public safety;
(c) the prevention of public nuisance;
(d) the protection of children from harm.

So, as presumably the removal of LL's license was due to (a), my reading is that as long if the police object, Lizzie is not going to get her license back. I don't know how easily the police would withdraw their objection.

Although sometimes the definition and the "recipe" get merged as in that lovely "Drop the Dead Donkey" one: "gegs (9,4)".

Confused
choccyp1g · 12/10/2018 16:41

Heh heh just got the gegs clue. I won't spoil it for the others though !

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 12/10/2018 17:19

Grin So have I. I'm not much cop at cryptic crosswords. My parents, in their 80s, are pretty good. I credit the Herald crossword with keeping them mentally alert.

DadDadDad · 12/10/2018 17:33

Here's a crossword clue to keep you amused this weekend:

In August, hear Cheryl Cole's fifth show. (3, 7)

Is that haharat spice mix in that recipe (struggling with small type here)? If so, what is it?

witchmountain · 12/10/2018 18:25

Nearly - baharat spice mix. Apparently there’s a recipe on page 299 but I’m not at home for a few days so perhaps one of the other book owners can post a pic.

BikingBeatrix · 12/10/2018 19:34

Should we have something about Peggy’s ski trip in the next thread title? Spending kids’ inheritance.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 12/10/2018 20:53

Love gegs!

No clue re wor Cheryl though.

Yes to Peggy spending the kids inheritanceSmile although at one point tonight I briefly wondered if Home Farm was going to be transformed into a nursing home.

echt · 12/10/2018 21:38

Excellent episode. About time Brine was back in his box. He'll be out soon.

I thought Peggy's ideas about the practicalities of adaptations to the Lodge being useful all round was good, part of building for life.

There's a certain briskness to the disposing of Christine, the repetition of a long stay/if she comes out that was very unpleasant. As for "eating into Peter's inheritance", the very idea. His inheritance is what he has when she'd dead; it's this premature expectation that will come to bite so many when we live longer and sell homes, release assets to fund later care.

buckingfrolicks · 12/10/2018 21:39

Because Lizzie can't help Freddie in person she's getting obsessed with doing what she thinks she can with the sentence, I guess.

Take maternal and listener love out of the picture and Freddie is an unpleasant specimen, especially to conservative (small C) like Brian and Jenny.

Thank you for solving the clue. I just knew one of you clever people would. And how clever the script writing was.

bertrand I'm off carbs atm so just pile up the meatballs for me. I'm bringing wine.

buckingfrolicks · 12/10/2018 21:40

What's gegs?

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 12/10/2018 22:54

Look for an anagram. Then look for a synonym of making something into an anagram. Then remember you're looking for a nine-letter word and a four-letter word.

TigerTeatimes · 12/10/2018 23:19

Or just watch drop the dead donkey - always a pleasure.

That one made me think maybe I could get into cryptically, alas it wasn't meant to be.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/10/2018 00:12

I really, really want Peggy to lose her temper with Lillian and blurt out what Matt did to Christine.

glamorousgrandmother · 13/10/2018 07:22

Several people on a Facebook thread have pointed out that the Lodge already has a downstairs loo although someone (Lillian?) recently said it didn't. Apparently Jack left the taps running in there and flooded the place shortly before he went into the Laurels. Surely the actors would remember things like this.

grumiosmum · 13/10/2018 07:41

I dunno. They're mostly quite old aren't they? I can't remember what I did last week & I'm only 53.

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2018 07:48

I don't know how the police would withdraw their objection No Dad especially as they were behaving with such great decorum at LL at the time!

QuaterMiss · 13/10/2018 08:05

I thought Peggy’s mention of ‘downstairs facilities’ was a bit odd! Partly because I was sure the Lodge already had them - mainly because Peggy would never have moved into the Lodge in the first place without such arrangements.

Cannot help feeling there’s been some minor mention in regard to Emma’s cleaning duties - but I may have imagined that.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 13/10/2018 08:07

Maybe what Peggy means is that the downstairs loo is going to be turned into a full scale bathroom with walk in shower?

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 13/10/2018 08:13

Presumably there's also a plan to move Christine's bedroom to a downstairs room or put in a stairlift. I can't see what else would take so long that she has to be out of the house for a month. It can't take that long to put in grab rails in the bathroom.

R4 · 13/10/2018 08:20

What was that Lilian let slip about her and Justin not talking? Is there trouble brewing and another one to add to Ambridge's displaced persons list (Aldridges, Kate, Alistair, Jill, Christine, Kirsty, ...)
