Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

Yes, ANutAsBigAsABoulder - or there will be a special award category for Recipes from the Dead or somesuch, and Nic's pie will win.

birdsdestiny · 30/09/2018 17:16

It will be an award named after Nic.

QuaterMiss · 30/09/2018 17:23

I’m saving ‘Recipes from the Dead‘ for when I start a moany, lo-fi, indie band!

Is the F&P show today? Hope they have better weather than the pretend lunar eclipse I’m looking at.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 30/09/2018 22:00

Food for thought for Kenton. I hope he apologises to Harrison and Fallon.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2018 23:27

Yes, hopefully he will realise he was out of order.

Will be interesting to see what other reactions are - Susan and Helen especially, perhaps.

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2018 06:56

But Kenton was in court, wasn't he? Why didn't he know it was more than a "bit of weed"?

Eastpoint · 01/10/2018 07:26

Didn’t Elizabeth reassure Freddie that his letter confessing to dealing wouldn’t be read out so Ellis wouldn’t know he had shopped him. Ellis is only going to be a low level dealer, the masterminds will be older.

BolleauxtoBankers · 01/10/2018 07:53

Weren't the charging and the sentencing on two separate occasions, though, with Freddie's statement about Ellis only having been given to the court just before sentencing, and was Kenton there for them both? What was Freddie actually charged with, that Kenton thinks it is only a small offence? And who else knows about what happened to Noluthando?
Sorry for all the questions, I've not been taking it in, being more concerned about my daughter starting her post-grad at Manchester and whether she'll meet Lily and Russ than Freddie's crimes and misdemeanours.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2018 09:12

Thanks Lass but it's still not clear to a dyscalculic (correct word?) like me duh.

Bolleaux I think that Kenton wasn't at the initial hearing and Lizzie has kept all the details secret, except that she told Shula.

bumblingbovine49 · 01/10/2018 10:27

All you want to know about Freddie's sentence, written by a barrister in exactly the same way as they normally write opinions!

barristerblogger.com/2018/10/01/freddie-pargetter-got-off-lightly-he-has-no-reasonable-prospects-of-appealing-his-12-month-sentence/

Too much legal speak for me to read it all in detail but the conclusion seems to be that he got of quite lightly

TigerTeatimes · 01/10/2018 11:13

Finally caught up with everything, it's been an enjoyable slog.

I don't think it serves society to waste public money incarnating Freddie but I don't think he should be given preferential treatment because of his background. On balance it seems fair. The Noli situation should have been a wake up call.

I feel so gutted for Elizabeth, her house must feel so empty. This is the for worst empty nest syndrome. She can't just call or visit either twin and no Nigel to help her through. Lilly needs to acknowledge that her mum needs her, even just phone calls and going for lunch dates in Manchester. I'll be most unimpressed and rather cross if she doesn't step up

birdsdestiny · 01/10/2018 11:26

The trouble is we don't really know what is happening to Lily at the moment, she may be in a huff with Elizabeth or Russ may have upped his abusive behaviour and stepping up may be very difficult.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2018 11:46

Tiger She's not completely alone , except at nights, she has full time help at LL; there's Geraldine and someone else ( I forget the slightly strange name, maybe a gardener ? ) but Freddie had to hide behind a hedge to avoid the person when Lizzie was trying to spirit him into LL to spend his last night breaking his bail conditions Grin

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/10/2018 11:46

That barrister's opinion is great reading! "Disappointing level of service from once respected Ambridge firm ...should reconsider its commitment to criminal work". Freddie lucky that no consideration of his benefits under Proceeds of Crime Act. Why didn't he enter into a formal agreement to assist police under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act? - it could have further reduced sentence. Judges remarks suggested she took an "improper consideration" of his background. Starting point under the guidelines for this offence is 4.5 years, so despite her improper remarks she has applied a hge reduction.

All in all one is left questioning the thoroughness of the research behind this storyline.

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2018 12:00

"Tiger She's not completely alone"

Where is Lewis??

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2018 12:05

Good question Bert He may have left many years ago and we all missed Lizzie's mumbled explanation for his absence. I've noticed that I miss quite a bit if I don 't listen again. Blush Reminds self to get a life!

drspouse · 01/10/2018 12:29

@bumbling I saw that too, great post!

MrsArthurShappey · 01/10/2018 13:22

I think he got off lightly, and absolutely agree with the judge's comment. Can't remember who said it above but Noli's overdose should have been his wake up call.

I remember having a set-to with my mum about the 2011 London riots. There was some rich entitled twat arrested for looting and my mum thought it was a terrible shame as they 'had so much going for them'. She could not understand me saying I had far less sympathy for someone looting for a laugh than the disaffected black kids who started the protest marches (and eventually the riots).

I read 'The Hate U Give' recently and it was amazing, a real eye opener.

Gersemi · 01/10/2018 13:42

Perhaps Lizzie will turn to Doc Locke for consolation and company.

TigerTeatimes · 01/10/2018 14:26

She may not be technically alone but I don't think having staff at LL will really assuage the loneliness of empty nest syndrome. The circumstances they've both left in are particularly awful too.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2018 14:35

Pip'll be company for Lizzie, she can help out with baby Rosie. Grin

drspouse · 01/10/2018 15:43

Don't worry, Lilly will be back soon enough after she's broken up with Rustle and he's spent all her money.

cheminotte · 01/10/2018 18:46

Just listened to Friday and Sundays episode.
I enjoyed Fallon finding a special award for Poppy. Also some sounds of contrition from Kenton at being told Freddie's dealing wasn't a one-off.

BikingBeatrix · 01/10/2018 19:38

And what about the Titchcombes?

BikingBeatrix · 01/10/2018 19:44

Today l had some lemon drizzle cake. DH started humming THE tune! Having now tasted it, l think it might have been a first experience - certainly so long ago l can’t recall when l had it before. And it was vegan. Grin
