Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

Thanks Lass but it's still not clear to a dyscalculic (correct word?) like me duh

It isn't anything to do with numbers. When an individual buys a house with a mortgage the mortgage is generally repayable within the likely working life of the borrower so it has to be repaid by retirement age.

Home Farm is a business entity and doesn't have a working life. Business mortgages might be repayable after a specific period but it is the business entity which pays- not the individual.

Home Farm might already be borrowing up to the max which would prevent further borrowing but Brian's age is not a relevant factor.

@ppeatfruit Pip the antidote to loneliness because suddenly you realise how preferable your own company is.

@Gersemi i would love this to turn into Lizzie grabbing life by the horns, Dr Locke by the, erm, hand and Shula still same old same old.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/10/2018 21:27

I really hate Hannah and Tom.

That was a nasty charade to play on Johnny. Johnny hates confrontation and arguments.

witchmountain · 01/10/2018 21:49

I agree, I felt really bad for Jonny.

I didn’t like Richard Locke although I can’t remeber why now, too smooth maybe. Did we ever find out why he recognised Rob when he was first introduced to him (and Rob insisted they had never met)?

birdsdestiny · 01/10/2018 21:53

Never mind the charade, I just don't want to hear Hannah and Tom shagging when I am making tea.

witchmountain · 01/10/2018 21:55

Who'd want to be “tickled” by Tom Archer, eh? I bet he’d be offputtingly earnest and humourless about the whole thing and take it terribly personally if you didn’t like something.

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2018 22:13

So basically that was a man of nearly 40 and a woman not much younger taking the piss out of an 18 year old. Right. How lovely.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/10/2018 22:25

Indeed.

It was well acted by Johnny. Boop

Gersemi · 01/10/2018 22:29

Did we ever find out why he recognised Rob when he was first introduced to him (and Rob insisted they had never met)?

It was never a mystery. He took the blood sample for Rob's paternity test.

witchmountain · 01/10/2018 22:35

Oh thanks, I must have missed that!

witchmountain · 01/10/2018 22:36

Unprofessional as well as smooth then.

Gersemi · 01/10/2018 22:37

I think it was accepted at the time as a scriptwriters' cock-up.

buckingfrolicks · 01/10/2018 22:43

Jonny. Unlike Tom, he questions his own competence to take responsibility. Good lad.

QuaterMiss · 01/10/2018 22:54

Gosh. That was mean of them. I don’t really understand the reason for all this bedroom farce stuff. They’re both single. Adults. What’s the problem with Johnny knowing? Or with locking the bedroom door?

C8H10N4O2 · 01/10/2018 23:47

That was a nasty charade to play on Johnny. Johnny hates confrontation and arguments.

I also hate Hannah who is manipulating the whole situation. I think Tom is pathetic, going alone with it.

I was struct by the contrast with the beginning scenes. Tom was saying (correctly) that Freddie had a choice and did not have to deal drugs any more than Jonny did. Tom was ending by mindlessly doing what Hannah wanted, including upsetting Jonny without exercising his own judgement.

FiveShelties · 02/10/2018 06:00

Hannah and Tom sounds like a 1960s farce gone wrong - pathetic.

QuaterMiss · 02/10/2018 06:08

It’s actually quite concerning that the writing/editorial (...) team had a meeting where they decided this would be the next bit of brilliantly entertaining comedy.

One mature man already shown to have repeatedly poor judgement in personal relationships. And a new female character only distinguishable by her vitriol and unpleasantness towards established and lovely characters. Together trying - for no good reason whatsoever - to fool a blameless young man with actual troubles of his own.

Hmm
LillianGish · 02/10/2018 06:23

The Tom and Hannah thing doesn’t work for me because the character of Hannah is so poorly developed. I can’t work out why she’s being so vile to Emma, rude about Neil and why she’s decided to strike up this casual relationship with her housemate - none of it rings true it’s all too OTT. Too much too soon - if they want her to be compelling villain we need a more gradual build-up. This is just silly.

LillianGish · 02/10/2018 06:25

a new female character only distinguishable by her vitriol and unpleasantness towards established and lovely characters - Hannah in a nutshell.

grumiosmum · 02/10/2018 07:13

Tom & Hannah. Utterly cringeworthy.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 07:50

“It’s actually quite concerning that the writing/editorial (...) team had a meeting where they decided this would be the next bit of brilliantly entertaining comedy”

I suppose it makes a change from the working class characters being the comic relief.......

QuaterMiss · 02/10/2018 07:58

Home Farm kitchen? ...

R4 · 02/10/2018 08:10

Hannah seems to be following the Alice Carter Careerpath: even though she is a woman holding down a responsible job she seems able to take an increasing number of early finishes / long lunches.
I hope that Neil sacks her for not putting in the hours.

C8H10N4O2 · 02/10/2018 08:37

On Nolethandu I thought she originally made contact with Ellis

Wasn't it the other way around? She had only just started college, Freddie had been there over a year and made initial introductions to random people I thought?

Nolu went along with selling their own mushrooms but she told Freddie to keep clear of the dealing (including telling him not to invite them to the party). I'm sure she told him not to bother about what the "cool blokes" thought but then he invited them anyway.

R4 · 02/10/2018 08:51

Freddie was lacking confidence and desperate to be 'in' with the cool kids. Ellis wouldn't give him the time of day until Noli turned up.
