And there’s some rubbish about an ex-stripper policeman?

Beka yes you're right, having to sort out solicitors completely out of the blue must be a nightmare

Elizabeth belongs to the class of people who has no difficulty sorting out a solicitor. Elizabeth will never have had to sort out a criminal law solicitor but in real life people like Elizabeth do not rely on the local one woman band general practitioner like Usha.

People like Elizabeth use an upper crust "private client" firm. Elizabeth will be on first name terms with her solicitor and would have no qualms about phoning him or her as soon as this happened. The firm Elizabeth uses doesn't do criminal law (other than possibly the odd driving offence for existing clients) but they will set her and Freddy up with a criminal practioner they refer their clients to.

Re the wedding I think it would be permitted for the wedding to supply all its own booze and LL just charges for corkage and glasses. Robin Fairbrother could supply wine direct to whoever is paying for the wedding. This only works of course if whoever is paying for the wedding intended the bar for the guests to be free.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/08/2018 22:04

Did we have to have another potential business collapse?

It's all a bit much.

echt · 06/08/2018 22:06

Robin's a bad dad, isn't he?

Cooing over Toby's being a great dad, which to be fair(brother), Toby shrugs off as normal. Then shutting down on Rex's pig work. I assume Toby's gin business passes the test because it's alcohol.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/08/2018 22:12

Robin seems to be desperate for new business. How could he even think of 'dropping in' on LL?

Abra1de · 06/08/2018 22:13

I don’t understand Robin’s logic with Rex. He is doing well at a new business venture but he should ditch it at a an early stage and go off elsewhere with his girlfriend because she’s a high earner? Doesn’t seem very business minded.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/08/2018 22:19

Because he wants to get in with racehorse owners is my guess.

Gruach · 06/08/2018 22:43

Speaking of MILs - where is the ex-Mrs UnfairFather? Doesn’t matter how far across the world she may be holidaying, surely she would also hot foot it to Ambridge to meet her first grandchild?

Bibesia · 07/08/2018 02:54

If Elizabeth needs a good criminal law solicitor she only has to ring up cousins Pat, Tony and Helen.

Saffkat · 07/08/2018 07:15

Perhaps Carol's daughter will return to defend Freddy? Though hopefully he will have the sense to plead guilty and it will be just a matter of mitigating his sentence.

Saffkat · 07/08/2018 07:18

I have a theory that the SWs are purging TA of the non-Archers. Aldridge, Hebden-Lloyd and now the Pargetter businesses face going down the pan, while Brookfield and Bridge Farm tick along nicely (and both have produced recent offspring to continue the name of Archer).
Making The Archers great The Archers again.

Gruach · 07/08/2018 07:53

Except that all the families you mention are Archers! (As in, have an Archer at their core.)

I hope that wouldn’t happen, Saffkat. Without the Aldridges we’d have no Phoebe. Without the Hebden-Lloyds we’d have no Dan (+ Dot). And without the Pargetters? Nope. That’s most of the future of the family. With Mungo (another Archer descendant) in the wings for now.

They do tend to cull people whose connection to the First Family becomes too tenuous. But without the nexus of family relationships spreading from the original Dan and Doris I’m not sure I’d bother to listen.

Gruach · 07/08/2018 08:01

But it’s true - jeopardising all of them at once is a little odd ... And heavy handed. And exhausting.

JessieMcJessie · 07/08/2018 08:02

Freddie would be far too big/old for a pony now. I suspect Casper is glue.

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2018 08:39

Yes, Come all ye Archers script writers and listen, this is getting TOO MUCH, we don't wish (well I don't) to listen to the collapse of the whole clan.

Iam aware that TA is renamed a 'drama' (for some ridiculous reason, we listened to it before it was rechristened,) but Puuuuuurlease don't over do it

Toofle · 07/08/2018 08:41

TravelledtheWorld, Asian does not equal Muslim.

Saffkat · 07/08/2018 09:14

And again I ask why are they ignoring the severe drought conditions that are affecting every other farmer in the U.K.?

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2018 09:36

Fabulous irony that Kate should take the moral highground with Lizzie, who really should have said that Freddie didn't force open Noli's mouth and push the whole pill into it. I'm glad, and a bit surprised, that Lizzie isn't collapsing over all this. ( did I miss the bit when she found out about the mushrooms?).

Interesting attitude of Fairbrother grandad to drugs, he doesn't, maybe, suspect himself of a being a drug addict? Albeit to the legal demon alcohol . I hate it when parents' are overt about which child they favour , about time that Rex challenged him. In RL I know a grandmother who has never journeyed from abroad to see her first baby GD, she is now 11 years old.

cheminotte · 07/08/2018 09:41

The Asian family are called Sandhu which is Sikh so definitely plenty of alcohol will be expected (and presumably that’s the most profitable bit).

MrsArthurShappey · 07/08/2018 15:16

Robin's biggest problem with the pig venture seems to be that Rex isn't self employed, although he was rather scathing before he found this out. Do we get the feeling that Rex has always been rather serious and 'good', and Toby a feckless cheeky chap you can't help but like? The blatant favouritism is awful. It would be interesting to see how Robin would have acted if Toby was still trying to be a farmer and Rex was the one making gin. I think Rex can't do anything right in his father's eyes. The fact that he was the one who went home to care for him is a bit heartbreaking.

birdsdestiny · 07/08/2018 15:25

I assume that Robin is an alcoholic, as far as I am aware there hasn't been a single scene in which he hasn't mentioned or drunk alcohol. I am guessing they decided it was too tricky to follow Alice through a problem drinking storyline, and decided to use a temporary character instead.

MrsArthurShappey · 07/08/2018 16:15

Ah good thinking birds

PseudoBadger · 07/08/2018 16:54

Just caught last night’s episode. The SWs have no idea about licensing law. What a surprise!

Gruach · 07/08/2018 17:39

So what should be happening?

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2018 18:43

the fact that he was the one who went home to care is a bit heartbreaking Yes I agree, though it's very true to life, it IME there are often offspring who propitiate unloving parents. It happens with partners too.

Notice that Brian did not want a share in Fairbrother gd's business opportunity. Sensible for Mr. Aldridge.
