And there’s some rubbish about an ex-stripper policeman?

'And now on Radio 4, it's time for an old favourite back in a new guise - Ambridge! (formerly known as The Archers). As he flees from the smoking ruins of Brookfield Farm, David Archer takes one last terrified glance behind him before departing forever - the last Archer in Ambridge. From the top of Lakey Hill, Hazel Woolley cackles maniacally as she sees her long-term plan coming to fruition. 'Robin, darling' she coos into her phone. 'It's done. The era of the Archers is at end. The Fairbrother-Woolley era begins!'

Speaking of implausible story-lines, wouldn't revolting Russ need to give at least a term's notice at the school? It'll be quite soon that he'll need to be back at work sorting out timetables. Interesting to see when the scales are going to fall from Lily's eyes.

And yes, the cheese thing: so unprofessional and so unlikely. Even in the worst days of the sausage king, he got more notice of a buyer cancelling then she did.

Minimammoth · 22/08/2018 15:54

Do the Sws not listen/watch some of the Beebs homegrown programmes like countryfile, or listen to Sheila Dillon’s food awards.
Wasn’t Helen up for an award a year back surely she would have been keen to improve and would not let QC go. Tch.

Guess where DS1 was today?

BBC Birmingham? Did he visit the TA studio?

(Or was it an Archers event at a festival? Edinburgh?)

Guienne · 22/08/2018 18:12

Lily did refer to Russ's notice period, but seemed to be under the impression that it's optional. As I'm sure he's aware, it isn't; in theory at least he could be sued for breach of contract.

Guienne · 22/08/2018 18:13

Idle thought: I wonder if Freddy has realised he's buggered up his nascent DJ career. No club is going to risk its licence by employing a convicted drug dealer.

I wonder if Lizzie will try asking Russ for a reference for the court case?

cheminotte · 22/08/2018 18:17

Yes at BBC Birmingham- told me it’s not actually recorded on a farm!

laptopdisaster · 22/08/2018 18:23

Surely lack of notice is going to be the least of Russ' problems when they find out he has been shagging a pupil

Guienne · 22/08/2018 18:47

Well, I suppose being sacked would certainly resolve his notice problem.

C8H10N4O2 · 22/08/2018 18:54

Do the Sws not listen

I think you can pause the question at this point. The answer obviously being "no".

I'm just looking forward to Sheila Dillon writing into feedback in defence of small food producers' quality management!

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 20:52

Lizzie’s going to ask Russ for a reference for Freddie, isn’t she?

impostersyndrome · 22/08/2018 21:53

Yes, lack of notice not an issue when you’re sacked for gross misconduct. I suppose the point I was making was that a plausible storyline would be Lily finding out there’s a list of teachers leaving that year on the school newsletter, and Russ not appearing on it.

I know I’m overthinking this a bit.

TigerTeatimes · 22/08/2018 22:30

I think we're all just gagging for Russ's downfall.

Feel perhaps Hannah is just a replacement Anisha. Bullish, ambitious, head strong young lady...

Feel perhaps Hannah is just a replacement Anisha. Bullish, ambitious, head strong young lady...

Exactly that.

SusanWalker · 23/08/2018 00:32

The whole Hannah/affordable housing storyline is getting on my nerves. The affordable houses will be 2/3 beds. Ed and Emma will be entitled to a three bed as they are a family of four, with boy/girl the eldest of which is over ten. Hannah would be entitled to a two bed at most. They aren't even in direct competition with each other. In fact, if Emma and Neil successfully force more affordable housing through it would only work in her favour. But I expect they're working up to Neil being sacked and Hannah taking his place.

I did like Alistair being boosted up by his dad. I think Shula is being all sanctimonious and deserves a bit of comeuppance.

And turns our to be good at cricket, despite having been reluctant to play?

Minimammoth · 23/08/2018 03:39

chemonotte - not recorded on a farm. My dreams are shattered.Grin
You’ll be telling me there are no unicorns next.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/08/2018 06:25

I hope not. If that were to happen would Hannah become a silent character having done what she has been set up to do?

She is unpleasant, unlikeable but also devoid of any personality. I can't see how they could find a permanent role for her.

EBearhug · 23/08/2018 08:10

You’ll be telling me there are no unicorns next.

I don't remember any storylines with unicorns, so this is very likely the case.

Gersemi · 23/08/2018 08:36

I don't really see why Shula and Alastair don't just wait till they've been separated two years and get the divorce then. It's not as if either is desperate to remarry.

Minimammoth · 23/08/2018 08:36

Doesn’t Lynda have any?

Gersemi · 23/08/2018 08:39

I too couldn't understand why Hannah objected to Emma pushing for the affordable housing project since it could only help her. However, hearing Emma's reaction when she realised she couldn't take part in the discussion did make me wonder what on earth she thought her function as parish councillor is: she seems to think it's so as to advance her own interests and little more.

TigerTeatimes · 23/08/2018 19:03

I wish I found it easier to sympathise with Emma. I do want to, but she makes it hard.

The thing I don't get with the Hannah/ Emma/ Neil debacle is why does Hannah think Emma is cosying up to Justin when she is actually being a very loud critic of Justin Elliots.

Also, surely all of this will not go well for Emma when it comes to selection time?

Gruach · 23/08/2018 19:15

Oh, I like her!

Really hope she’ll become a fixture.
