And there’s some rubbish about an ex-stripper policeman?

Wasn't Nigel's mother Julia a former 'theatrical' who married a rich businessman? 'Julia's' sister always called her by her real name (Joan?)

R4 · 14/08/2018 12:22

We don't know his paternal grandparents lineage but I would say they are upper middle \upper.

Have you forgotten Julia? She was on the boards and hence may have acted UMC but she was rumbled.
The rest of the Pargetter family have been noticeable by their absence. We heard more about Caroline's connections than we ever did about the Pargetters'.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2018 12:31

I meant great grandparents. If Julia had married into an aristo family that makes her the same regardless of her pretensions.

True that the SW's obviously shied away from inventing a lineage for the Pargeters.

R4 · 14/08/2018 12:47

The same as Lizzie, you mean? Married into it, not born into it.

Gruach · 14/08/2018 13:00

Pretty sure they have previously indicated that the Pargetters are old whatever. Seem to recall Nigel sometimes mentioning his ancestors. (Though I may be mis-remembering.)

D0do · 14/08/2018 13:14

Julia/Joan was a greengrocer's daughter from Lewisham, IIRC. Ended up on the stage.

R4 · 14/08/2018 13:29

They imply that the Pargetters are relatively old. They probably made their money from the original industrial revolution, judging by the age of LL (late17th/early18th Century) so their thinness on the ground after a few centuries is noteworthy.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2018 13:43

So not a family from before the Norman invasion then? Grin I love that description of a REALLY old family in Wives and Daughters (E. Gaskell) as opposed to the new money belonging to the showy local poshos.

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2018 13:53

They aren't an old old upper class family or they wouldn't be called Pargetter. I suspect this was a clue planted by whichever scriptwriter introduced them.

Saffkat · 14/08/2018 17:22

Here's a prediction - Lizzie will drop down dead with her heart condition and all the stress and Freddy will have to grow up fast as heir to LL. Lily will have to do all the work while Freddy, failing to grow up after all, will smoke away the family inheritance

ADarkandStormyKnight · 14/08/2018 17:45

Didn't Nigel unearth an eccentric Uncle Rupert and build a folly to honour him?

buckingfrolicks · 14/08/2018 18:28

The actor who plays Freddy is just great. That tinge of self pity, the hint of a whine, the undercurrent of a little boy with his hands tucked down his pyjama trousers

I actually love Freddie he's so utterly gloriously stupidly self absorbed.

bluerunningshoes · 14/08/2018 18:30

what are the bets that somehow rex instead of toby ends up at the registry office with pip?

yy to the freddy actor. really convincing.

R4 · 14/08/2018 18:52

Toby Laurence is fabulous as Freddie. Prob the best actor on TA at the moment.

TigerTeatimes · 14/08/2018 18:56

Ah sorry Guienne, sarcasm rarely works for me in text.

I too noticed the reference to Ruth telling if Josh c8 - it's all too infuriating.

Gosh there are so many other points I want to reply to I think I need to go and reread them all again.

The main thing I want to have said before 7 is - would it not be totally normal for Freddie to try and act casual in front of his mates? I don't think you can take what he said to Jonny as indicative of his true feelings, at least not all of them.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 14/08/2018 19:16

EPIC SNELL SNIFF 😄

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 14/08/2018 19:16

Also loved the continuity announcer’s: “Go on Harrison, solve a crime for once.”

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2018 20:18

Another pointless episode. What was all that about the licence? And surely Harrison would just tell Linda to sling her hook and take it higher if she wants to?

R4 · 14/08/2018 20:35

And surely Harrison would just tell Lynda to sling her hook and take it higher if she wants to?

I hope that he gets into big trouble for:
his wife llama-napping
him finding out but turning a blind eye
him being part of the conspiracy to return the llama
not informing Lynda of possible harm to look out for (disease, eating wrong food, injury, distress) and, worst of all
investigating his own F&F (hardly impartial, is it)

Throw the book at him.

D0do · 14/08/2018 21:28

Don't forget his signal failure to solve the crime of the century, the Great Bunting Theft!

Hellywelly10 · 14/08/2018 21:38

I hope fallon leaves him at the alter. Kensington was right he could have cautioned Freddie.

Hellywelly10 · 14/08/2018 21:39

Kenton bloody autocorrect

echt · 14/08/2018 21:58

Harrison had already let Freddie off for possession, so if that came out.... also another police officer affirmed it was dealing levels of drugs on Freddie. Also in a room full of cops.

TigerTeatimes · 14/08/2018 22:31

Ooh I really dislike Harrison but Freddy was asking for it, given his company. (To the point that the whole thing is too implausible but here we are.)

It's one (unimpressive) thing to turn a blind eye to a lama napping but the way he responded to Linda's just awful. Inappropriate even.

Also I know he was meant to be feminist hero and spin doctor type, tricking the luddites into letting the ladies onto the cricket team. If he wasn't a policeman I'd agree it was all fab, but I take a dim view of police officers being dishonest and manipulating people for what they perceive to be the greater good. He may have been right once, but that's an awful.

Sorry baby number 2 has hit the 8 month sleep regression, haven't slept in days so may just be rambling incoherently now. Harrison...grumble grumble...bunting, groan.

EBearhug · 15/08/2018 00:14

He might have done again, if Freddie had only had a couple of pills on him, rather than a whole bag full.
