And there’s some rubbish about an ex-stripper policeman?

I'm glad, and a bit surprised, that Lizzie isn't collapsing over all this

I'm not. I've always liked Elizabeth, warts and all. She is one of the tougher characters and has worked through her share of crises in the past, including turning LL into a functioning business when the uber-posh chorus girl was letting it go bust. She is one of the few characters I'd be happy to have around in a crisis.

Freddy is horribly realistic. I've seen plenty of Freddys take many years to grow up and some never do.

C8H10N4O2 · 08/08/2018 11:42

After Robin's flanneling of Elizabeth the other day I wonder if she is being set up for him to swoop in and try to resume some sort of relationship as a pretext for access to any money he thinks she has.

He is delightfully awful

C8H10N4O2 · 08/08/2018 11:46

I’m surprised the Carters haven’t been more proactive in helping Emma

Ed'n'Emmur did live with them for a while. Didn't they move to the Grundys because the house was bigger after all the work done by Oliver and Caroline?

I don't think they had the financial means to help towards a property. Neil built the house himself and neither have worked in high paid jobs until Neil's new job for Justin. Susan was saying that now they might be in a position to help Emma when he took the new job.

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2018 12:20

CH8 I wonder how Lizzie will cope when she learns about the number and magnitude of Lily's lies though?

TigerTeatimes · 08/08/2018 12:47

Schadenfreude is exactly what I thought too ppeat you could tell Susan was thoroughly enjoying herself

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2018 12:51

Tiger Yes it was brilliant , she's such a good actress!

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/08/2018 13:33

Susan was saying that now they might be in a position to help Emma when he took the new job.

The 🔮 predicts that schadenfreude will come to bite Susan on the arse for this when Hannah is promoted and Neil demoted/forced out.

C8H10N4O2 · 08/08/2018 13:46

when Hannah is promoted and Neil demoted/forced out.

I really hope Hannah isn't promoted - she has been rewritten as a really unpleasant piece of work.

C8H10N4O2 · 08/08/2018 13:51

number and magnitude of Lily's lies though?

Depends on how she interprets it. I regard Ross as abusing a position of authority over a teenager. Lily may be 18 now but she wasn't when it started and even then - she was his student, he knows her background/loss of Nigel. She may not be poor but she was emotionally vulnerable, like many children of that age.

The lying about Freddy was partly to hide her own relationship but Lily has always tended to behave "older" and protective around Elizabeth. Its Lily who actually helps with the business despite the fact that it gets handed to Feckless Freddy on a plate. Lily has often not told Elizabeth things in a misplaced sense of trying to be protective. Of the twins, whilst Lily can be silly and irritating at times she is in a different league to the awful Freddy.

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2018 14:20

Lily is still pretending to be gay. Yes she does try to 'protect' Lizzie but that will make the truth even worse for her Mum to bear.

impostersyndrome · 08/08/2018 16:55

C8H10N4O2 I so agree that Hanna is an unpleasant piece of work. But just as with Anisha, I wonder if that's the intention of the writers, or do they have 'young and dynamic' in their mind's eye as they write her?

R4 · 08/08/2018 19:21

Oooh, the bar went very quiet, didn't it?
It's been an absolute field day for gossip in the village this week.

IAmTheWifeOfMaoTseTung · 08/08/2018 20:30

I’ve been doing very well with my new-found daily habit of listening to “Robin Fairbrother’s Adventures Amongst The Yokels” and it’s all more or less making sense: but I need someone to tell me whether he’s right about Rex being secretly in love with Pip please. I only realised that Toby and Pip weren’t a couple today tbh.

birdsdestiny · 08/08/2018 20:32

Yes rather irritatingly he is, although Rex may not know it himself yet.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 08/08/2018 20:32

Rex is absolutely in love with Pip. He stepped back when Toby got involved with her but that torch is still burning.

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2018 20:37

Oh yes Daddy hit nail on the head there. Rex is pie eyed about Pipsqueak. [hearts emojjis] !

IAmTheWifeOfMaoTseTung · 08/08/2018 20:43

Excellent. That’s the vibe I got from the conversation but I just wanted to check. Hurrah for Robin running rings around everyone else as per usual.

MikeUniformMike · 08/08/2018 21:13

Topper was a hunter so more likely to be a horse than a pony.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/08/2018 21:53

Just listened. Can't believe none of you have mentioned

SCARLETT JOHANSSON!?!?

SMUGULA?!?!?

REALLY?!?!!!!

R4 · 08/08/2018 22:39

It might of been the SJ comment which made Smugs realise that Robin was, perhaps, possibly, laying it on a bit thick. However, for a woman who has cast aside the boredom of marriage in search of adventure she is making a very poor job of it. He couldn't have thrown himself at her any stronger.

LassWiADelicateAir · 08/08/2018 22:42

I think I was too stunned to comment.

Shula is only a year older than me. I would never have thought of her as a contemporary.

DadDadDad · 08/08/2018 22:56

I tried to pair my mental picture of Shula with Scarlett Johansson, and I all I could think of was SJ in Under the Skin, where she eschews her usual glamorous look.

IAmTheWifeOfMaoTseTung · 08/08/2018 23:03

I thought it was Kenton who made the SJ comparison?

R4 · 08/08/2018 23:05

Arghh. I wrote 'might of' BlushBlush
The SJ comment affected me more than I realised.

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2018 23:10

I liked the robin and Rex conversation. It has been totally clear for years that Rex is in love with Pip, the deluded fool. I liked the idea that their much maligned dad has come in and seen clearly something nobody else has been willing to state!
