So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

I imagine Will pacing the woods, brooding darkly, strangling crows, and hanging them in rows from a gamekeepers gibbet.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 11:28

But joe was horrified by what she said

Even if she had said she hit Matt, Matt survived apparently unscathed and no one likes him. It wouldn't have provoked such a reaction surely?

“.......just......killed.......some.....body...”

Or is it meant to be in her confused state she did hit Matt but is confused that he survived?

Abra1de · 25/02/2018 11:30

Like a dark version of a brooding Thomas Hardy character, steam!

Aethelthryth · 25/02/2018 11:34

Nic would (unless she has been given a character transplant- not unknown) never have been able to carry on as usual after running Matt over.

We can't have another gloomy gamekeeper

I still don't understand why Shula is being so very odd. My money is on her being responsible for the hit and run

I mean this as a compliment but the death bed scene was Dickensian/ Hardyesque

It will prey on Joe. Who is he going to confide in? Alan? Jim?

Tivvymum · 25/02/2018 11:38

Why did Nic Grundy keep telling Joe she was bad as she was dying? Did I miss something somtime?

Tivvymum · 25/02/2018 11:39

Do we think Nic killed Matt? Have i missed an episode....this is driving me crazy. Put me out of me misery someone???

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 11:44

Tivvymum Nic made an inaudible (to us) deathbed confession of something. We are trying to guess what it could be.

Several people are contenders for having run down Matt, because we know they were driving at the time of the incident. Nic had left The Bull early to pick up the kids.

WobblyLondoner · 25/02/2018 11:45

Arrgghh just listened to this again to see if I could work out what Nic said to Joe. All I could make out was something like "soon" and then there was the quick exchange where he leaned over and reacted with shock to what she said. I think it must be to do with lovely Matt C but no idea what... agree with previous posters that it would have to be something major for him to react that way. No idea where the idea it's about Poppy's paternity comes from, I'd not picked up on that at all. But on reading this thread realise I am but an amateur despite 30 plus years of listening!

Nic left her shift at The Bull that night because Poppy was ill. Nic was one of a number of people who were driving that night at approximately the right time but beyond that there is nothing to suggest she was the driver.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 11:51

Just going back to sepsis, because it's important

I'm listening again, trying to work out how Nic could have avoided her fate. Did she need to do a thorough clean of the cut as soon as it occurred? Why isn't everyone dead from minor cuts?

I think the wrong message has been sent out here. Many people will now be thinking that sepsis is due to untreated cuts.

Sepsis is rare, most of the time our bodies deal very well with infection, sepsis happens when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive as it tries to fight an infection. This can reduce the blood supply to vital organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys (septic shock).

It can happen following any infection, from bacteria, viruses (like flu), or fungi, not just wounds. It can look like flu, a chest or urinary infection or D&V to begin with. If caught early, it can be successfully treated.

Seek immediate medical attention for ANY of the following:

Slurred speech or confusion
Extreme shivering or muscle pain
Passing no urine (in a day)
Severe breathlessness
It feels like you’re going to die
Skin mottled or discoloured

BoreOfWhabylon good post!

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 11:54

Thanks Bore

This storyline does rather feel as if it was crow barred in by the ministry of information for public health.

Bakedappleflavour · 25/02/2018 11:57

Sepsis is rare

I thought it wasn't rare at all and that's the whole point of all this public awareness

FlaviaAlbia · 25/02/2018 12:03

The horrible thing is that is so hard to tell in children and toddlers who can’t make themselves understood or who can’t yet talk. DS became ill one night with a temp of 34 and what seemed like disorientation or delirium. Because we have friends who lost their DS to sepsis that was misdiagnosed as a chest infection and who now do lots of work to raise awareness, it was there in our minds and we rushed him to A&E but thankfully it was a false alarm.

I’m leaning towards thinking it’ll be the confusion that’s caused Nic to blow something minor out of proportion.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 12:03

No, it is a rare reaction to infection, but the beginning signs are subtle and often missed, including by HCPs.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 12:09

You did exactly the right thing FlaviaAlba

I’ve had sepsis twice from infected eczema. I had no idea how ill I was, and probably wouldn’t have gone to the doctor, had a friend who was a nurse not noticed and taken me straight to A & E.

Gruach · 25/02/2018 12:22

Hoorah! Thank you MNHQ

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 12:22

Yes Francis - an obvious infection, e.g wound, insect bite, boil/abscess anywhere + feeling ill = seek help immediately. Don't wait to see if things settle down.

RivkaMumsnet · 25/02/2018 12:22

As promised, we've edited the title again now that the omnibus has been aired.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 12:23

Yay! Thank you @MNHQ Flowers
