So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

The Ambridge Chainsaw Massacre! Grin

Gruach · 25/02/2018 10:01

Bravo Teen! Though I do think you’re missing the element of menace that would round out the scenario. Joe likes to talk things through before acting - George would probably be best. They put the squeeze on Alice ...

birdsdestiny · 25/02/2018 10:04

I was rather weirdly thinking about Nic s deathbed confession last night. I came to the conclusion that Nic must have run over Matt, however implausible that is. The conversation she had with Joe was a few words long. Time enough to say I ran over Matt. But time enough to explain 'I was a witness to Alice running over Matt'?. And Joes reaction was too over the top for merely being a witness. I may be overthinking obviously.

Buxbaum · 25/02/2018 10:11

There is a theory on Twitter that the deathbed confession might be related to Poppy’s paternity, but I find that highly doubtful. There’s been too much signalling in relation to the crash for it to be anything else, surely?

Peartree17 · 25/02/2018 10:12

I can't believe that Nic wouldn't say something after running over Matt. And I don't think she would have driven up afterwards, got out the car, looked at a - likely dying - man in ditch and coldly driven off again. The only possibility, and again it's stretching it that she wouldn't have said a word to Alice or, more likely, her husband, is that she saw Alice hit Matt. But in a rear view mirror, and not certain she'd seen it.

Because if she's as nice (albeit a bit mousey) as her cheerleaders on her e say, then she couldn't have hit him or driven off leaving him injured.

NorthernLurker · 25/02/2018 10:14

Jack Archer - alcoholism I think

Mark Hebden - hit tree in car having swerved to avoid Caroline who had been thrown from her horse and was prone in the road

Polly Perks (Sid's first wife) - collided with milk tanker

Sid Perks (Kathy and Jolene's previous spouse) - heart attack in New Zealand

Doris Archer - natural death, peacefully in armchair

Dan Archer - heart attack I think, whilst trying to right a sheep that was stuck on its back, aided (ha) by useless Elizabeth

Ralph Bellamy (husband to Lillian and father to James) heart attack

Grace Archer nee Fairbrother - flaming stable fell on her

Old age and complications thereof - Mrs P (Peggy's mother), Aunt Laura Archer, Walter Gabriel, Uncle Tom

Slightly mysterious ends - John Tregorran, Nelson Gabriel

TeenTimesTwo · 25/02/2018 10:16

Yup, I think she saw Alice.
Nic likes Alice, and Nic is conflict avoidant, and no one likes Matt. Matt survived. She might have thought no good could come of telling what she saw.
But then seeing Alice getting drunk, and not learning from her mistakes, could have upset her enough over time to.

Unless she saw Shula ...

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2018 10:17

I wondered if Nick says she felt bad about the falling out with Emmur and her refusal to accept her olive branch. Nick was so mild mannered, I cannot imagine her doing anything really bad

TeenTimesTwo · 25/02/2018 10:18

Northern
Jethro Larkin - farming accident (iirc)

birdsdestiny · 25/02/2018 10:20

But joe was horrified by what she said. He wouldn't react like that about a row with Emma or he would spend his life in a permanent state of outrage Smile

WhatwouldLyndaSnelldo · 25/02/2018 10:28

I'm listening again, trying to work out how Nic could have avoided her fate. Did she need to do a thorough clean of the cut as soon as it occurred? Why isn't everyone dead from minor cuts? What makes them turn into sepsis?

Not that I'm getting paranoid. Oh, no, not me!

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 10:30

I hope no one leaves these threads and we can go back to our usual good humoured dissection of all things Archer-related, however tenuously.

Also, for those who feel they are sometimes ignored by other posters, many many of my posts go unacknowledged but I do think it's just the often fast-moving nature of the thread itself. I know I often laugh or think 'ooh, good point!' but don't actually post to say so.

What I love most about these threads is that there is, most of the time, very little of the trolling, sniping and belligerence that is found in many other parts of MN. I also love that TA posters hail from all parts of the world and all backgrounds.

Anyway, here is a Mystic Bore™️ prediction for you all - Ambridge will soon have its very first transgender character. Unfortunately, the 🔮is unclear about who it will be.

Personally, I'd love to see Lillian's reaction to Justin appearing in hair extensions and a corset, à la Caitlyn Jenner, on the cover of Horse and Hound.

Bekabeech · 25/02/2018 10:30

My theories:
Nic knocked over Matt but didn't see who/what she'd hit (he was in the ditch) so drove home to Poppy
Nic saw someone do a hit and run but didn't report it as she dashed to Poppy
Nic knows George took the cash but let Alf take the blame

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2018 10:35

Aaaaand you'd all moved on by the time I posted Grin

Vango · 25/02/2018 10:40

She seems to bring out the angry teenager in you.

as her cheerleaders on here say...

These are exactly the kinds of comments that drive me off I’m afraid. But for the big storyline of Friday, I don’t think I’d have bothered to stick around.

I find it hard to read posts that come across as sneery. It’s draining.

PseudoBadger · 25/02/2018 10:42

My posts go unnoticed all the time and they are probably highlighted in a different colour Grin

Jethro Larkin - farming accident (iirc)

David was cutting down a tree branch, and it fell on Jethro.

This thread has made me think of Martha Woodford and the telephone box.

LillianGish · 25/02/2018 10:42

Birds I agree. Just listened again (rather than relying on twitter transcript). Nic says “I’ve been so bad” “So wrong” brushes aside Joe’s indignation and whispers “Listen to me”, he says he’ll have to lean in because he can’t hear she then says three short but inaudible words. Which can’t possibly be “I saw Alice run over Matt”or even “I ran over Matt” - he then says “ No don’t say that, you’re all mixed up”.

PseudoBadger · 25/02/2018 10:42

I think Nic stole the bunting.

FlaviaAlbia · 25/02/2018 10:48

WhatwouldLyndaSnelldo I only know of two people in rl who have had Sepsis. One survived because his family pretty much forced him into the car to go to A&E to get an infected cut seen too. He'd known it wasn't healing but kept telling himself it would be OK and he hates hospitals and Drs.

LillianGish · 25/02/2018 10:52

Actually “I stole the bunting” would probably work. Just forced DH and DS to listen again - they both agree it is intentionally incomprehensible.

Vango · 25/02/2018 11:00

I'm listening again, trying to work out how Nic could have avoided her fate. Did she need to do a thorough clean of the cut as soon as it occurred? Why isn't everyone dead from minor cuts?

Someone on the earlier thread mentioned the fact that the ‘antiques’ had been contaminated by the flood water. If so, could that cut have been infected by something poisonous as soon as it happened? Not Brian’s toxic chemicals - wouldn’t we have had dead fish before now?

cheminotte · 25/02/2018 11:07

Love that you forced your DH and DS to listen!
I forced DP to give me a big hug and put TCP on DS’s cut but wouldn’t make them actually listen to TA.

Vango · 25/02/2018 11:14

“.......just......killed.......some.....body...”

Abra1de · 25/02/2018 11:19

Do we think that Will will sue someone?

The hospital?
Joe?
Brian?

Because he isn’t known for his forgiving nature!
